Answer: violin

Madeline and her 11 friends who attend a girls' finishing school in Paris during the 1930s awake one morning to find that Miss Clavel, the nun who takes care of them, has fallen ill. Miss Clavel finds that her head aches because of a horrid sound coming from the house of the Spanish Ambassador next door. Madeline and the others find out that it is his son, Pepito, who is having difficulty learning to play the violin making the noise.

At their request, Pepito agrees to stop playing violin until Miss Clavel is well.
3. Which of these is not one of the things that any of the girls recall their parents doing for them when they are sick?

Answer: feeding them ice cream

After trying to think of what they could do for Miss Clavel while she is laid up, each of the girls remember something that their parents would do for them in times of illness. Madeline then recalls her parents whom she lost long ago but can remember well.

The girls then begin to cry as they think it is sad that Madeline hasn't any family anymore. Although Miss Clavel arrives and assures the girls that having good friends like each other is just like having a family, they are not so sure.
4. What is the supposed name of Madeline's long-lost uncle?

Answer: Horst

The next day, after Miss Clavel gets better, a letter addressed to Madeline is delivered to the house by the postman. The letter states that her "long-lost Uncle Horst" is coming for a visit. Ecstatic at the thought of having family again, Madeline happily works with the other girls who are all happy for her to clean the house in order to prepare for his visit.
5. Where does Madeline's long-lost uncle claim he is from?

Answer: Vienna

Uncle Horst claims he is from Vienna which is both the largest and capital city of Austria. On the day of his arrival, Horst is seemingly a kind and well-mannered man, graciously bringing with him a collar of white lace for each of the girls. However, things take a slight turn for the worse as Uncle Horst, who by way of court papers is Madeline's new legal guardian, wishes her to return with him to Vienna where he states she will attend a fine and exclusive finishing school.
6. Which of these is not one of the things the girls state they have learnt at their school?

Answer: pottery making

Although Uncle Horst claims that the Viennese school will be a very good experience for Madeline as her mother attended at one point and she will be educated with royalty, Madeline does not want to part with her friends. They, Miss Clavel, Pepito, his parents and Lord CooCooFace, the chairman of the school, don't want to part with her either. So, the night after Horst's arrival, they invite him to a dinner after which the girls, Pepito and the respective adults attempt to show him that their school is just as good by way of a song the girls sing about what their school has taught them.

Despite their best efforts, Uncle Horst still insists that Madeline shall go to the school in Vienna.
7. What does Pepito intend to give Madeline as a farewell gift?

Answer: a shrunken head

After attempting but failing to prevent the rooster from crowing so that the sun won't rise and Madeline will then supposedly not leave as it is still dark, Pepito concludes that he may still give Madeline a parting present. The other three options were all things of his that he rejects before he decides that the genuine imitation shrunken head from the Ambassador of Brazil is the best of all.
8. Which is the final bead from her necklace that Madeline is left with?

Answer: the lion

Later that morning, Uncle Horst arrives to take Madeline to the train depot where he claims they will board the Orient Express which will take them to Vienna. Believing that now is the right time, Miss Clavel gives Madeline her mother's necklace which is made up of beads that have pictures of animals on them because she had been told to put it in safekeeping until the time was right for Madeline to receive it and believes that now is that time.

However, when things start to look wrong as Uncle Horst has her board the Metro rather than the train, abandons her pet dog, Genevieve, which her friends sent with her, and takes her to a dingy neighborhood on the other side of town, Madeline begins to drop her beads behind her so that her friends may have a clue to find her in case she gets in trouble.
9. Only one of the factory girl's names is given throughout the entire film.

Answer: True

Uncle Horst takes Madeline to a lace shop where it is revealed that he is really a failed actor named Henri who works for an evil woman named LaCroque. The twosome keep orphaned girls locked up in the shop basement where they force them to make lace which they then sell. Although there are nine girls altogether, we only learn the name of one, Fifi.
10. What was LaCroque's former career?

Answer: cabaret dancer

LaCrouque is horrid and bad-tempered towards everyone in the shop, threatening to give the girls haircuts if they don't work sufficiently. Fifi later tells Madeline that her attitude is due to humiliation she suffered when her skirt ripped and she was accidentally kicked off stage during one of her performances.
11. Which of these does the police sketch-artist not draw?

Answer: a large-toothed figure

After picking up Genevieve from the Metro, Miss Clavel goes to the police station in order to describe "Uncle Horst" to them. However, the police sketch-artist, who is obviously a surrealist, proves to be of no help because he adds the surreal features described earlier to each of his sketches.
12. What is the name of the girls' housekeeper?

Answer: Mrs. Murphy

Mrs. Murphy is left to take care of the girls while Miss Clavel and the police go to look for Madeline. However, because they want to help find their friend, the girls get Pepito to scare Mrs. Murphy with a mouse and he, they and Genevieve run off to search the city's Metro stations for clues.

However, they are unable to reach the one Madeline got off at because they decide that they'd better return home just before they reach it.
13. What is Henri doing when Miss Clavel and the police spot him?

Answer: going to sell Madeline's possesions

After LaCrouque catches Madeline trying to have the girls weave cries for help into their lace, she decides that she should be locked up in a cell where she can't make anymore trouble. Henri is then sent out to sell the possessions in the suitcase she had previously packed for the Viennese school in order obtain money for a lock for the cell door.

It is while he is leaving the shop that he is spotted by Miss Clavel and the police who recognize him. Although Henri tries to escape their pursuit, he is tripped by a street lad whom he had previously refused to give any change and is then forced to lead them to Madeline.
14. Does Madeline's hair ever get cut during the film?

Answer: Yes

LaCrouque does proceed to cut off her hair after a lace shop customer tells her that she'd like a collar of red lace. Although she is able to cut some strands of it off, Pepito and the rest of Madeline's friends arrive, having found her beads earlier and proceed to scare LaCrouque off her feet with the shrunken head which gives the factory girls the opportunity to tie her up with ribbons and lace.

After the police arrive, LaCroque and Henri are arrested and the reward money that Madeline receives for capturing them is used towards funding a new school building for the factory girls.

At the end of the film, Madeline realizes that having good friends is truly like having a family.
15. Which of these is not a song title from the film?

Answer: Courage, Madeline

The film is a musical with five songs altogther. "Togther" is a song which Madeline sings to convince the factory girls that if they work as a team, they will be able to save themselves. "Something is Not Right" is sung by Madeline, Pepito, Miss Clavel and the girls when they realize that "Uncle Horst" isn't who he claims to be. "We Can Sing, We Can Dance" is what Madeline and friends sing to try and convince Henri/Uncle Horst that their school is tops. "Courage, Madeline" was a song title that I made up off the top of my head in order to put in an incorrect answer.
