Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Being the adventures of a young man whose principal interests are rape, ultra-violence and Beethoven."

Answer: A Clockwork Orange

"A Clockwork Orange" is an extremely powerful, and confronting film, directed by Stanley Kubrick. The film stars Malcolm McDowell, as Alexander (Alex) de Large, a young ruthless hoodlum, who is jailed for murder. He then volunteers himself, for an experimental brainwashing treatment, to reform criminals. If he completes the treatment, he will receive a shorter sentence.

The tag line describes the things that the pre-cured Alex enjoys. It is a good fit for the movie because it fully prepares the viewer for what the movie is going to contain.

It explains the main character of the film and is simple yet effective.
2. "17 year old Marty McFly got home early last night. 30 years early."

Answer: Back to the Future

"Back to the Future" tells the story of young Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox), who travels back in time, in a time machine, invented by his very eccentric best friend, Dr. Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd). Whilst in the year 1955, Marty accidentally stops his parents from meeting. Unless he can quickly get his mum to meet, and fall in love with his hopeless father, Marty won't be born, 13 years later. Marty enlists the help of the Dr. Brown of 30 years earlier.

The tag line explains how Marty has turned up at his home, only he has turned up 30 years earlier, which is 13 years before his birth.
3. "His passion captivated a woman. His courage inspired a nation. His heart defied a king."

Answer: Braveheart

"Braveheart" tells the story of William Wallace (Mel Gibson), a Scottish rebel, who leads a rebellion against England's cruel and unjust ruler, King Edward, also know as Longshanks (Patrick McGoohan). Wallace looses his wife to English guards, so he embarks on a quest, and an enduring battle to free Scotland.

The tag line relates to his wife, the people of Scotland and Longshanks. Wallaces' wife is drawn to him, because of his passion and desire. The people of Scotland are inspired by Wallace and his defiance, and unite behind him.

While Longshanks, is infuriated by the resistance of Wallace, and his followers.
4. "Somewhere... somehow... someone's going to pay!"

Answer: Commando

"Commando" is the ultimate guy flick, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as John Matrix, a retired elite commando, who is trying to rescue his kidnapped daughter, Jenny (Alyssa Milano). Jenny is kidnapped, so that Arius (Dan Hedaya), a former Latin American dictator, can force Matrix to kill the current dictator of the country. Arius wants the dictator killed, so that he can reinstate himself in power. Of course, Matrix is not interested in helping Arius, and he goes about rescuing his daughter the only way he knows how, with mass destruction.

The movie is full of quirky one liners, and is as humourous as it is action filled. The tag line further depicts Matrix's attitude, to find his daughter at all costs. Matrix is keen to ensure that the kidnappers pay, because his love and bond with his daughter is unrivalled.
5. "Someone has taken their love of scary movies, one step too far. Solving this mystery, is going to be murder."

Answer: Scream

"Scream" is a horror movie with a difference. One year after the death of her mum, Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), is stunned to learn, that more killings have taken place in their town. The killer is stalking and killing teenagers, like in the movies, and like the movies there are many suspects.

This 'teen-kill' movie, is the first in a trilogy, that sadly loses its appeal and effect after the first. The tag line describes, how all the killings are based on, and related to the typical scary movie.

It is showing how the killer is a scary movie buff, and bases his actions on the so-called, rules of horror movies.
6. "It's everybody's non-pollutionary, anti-institutionary, pro-confectionery factory of fun!"

Answer: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

"Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" is about a young boy, named Charlie (Peter Ostrum), who is lucky enough to win a tour of a chocolate factory. The factory is owned by the eccentric and very mysterious Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder). Charlie, along with five others, wins a golden ticket, which was located under the wrapper of a Wonka candy bar. Once in the factory, the guests discover that it is not all as it seems, and many weird things begin to happen.

The tag line simply enhances this weird reputation, through the use of descriptive language.

It is a perfect match for the movie, because it is weird and wacky, and doesn't really make much sense. "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" is a remake of the film. The movies are based on the novel by Roald Dahl called "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory".
7. "How much blood would you shed to stay alive?"

Answer: Saw

Immensely graphic, extremely violent and ultimately gripping are the best ways to describe "Saw". When two men, Adam (Leigh Whannell), and Dr. Lawrence Gordon (Cary Elwes), wake up in the cell of a serial killer, they have no recollection of how they got there, or how long they had been there for. To make matters worse, there is a dead body lying between them, and they are handcuffed to pipes.

The two must then find a way to escape, and save the Doctor's family, who have been kidnapped by the killer.

The tag line relates to the sickening ultimatums that the killer forces upon his victims. It is a good fit for the movie because it gives the audience an idea of what to expect from the film.
8. "The robbery should have taken 10 minutes. 4 hours later, the bank was like a circus sideshow. 8 hours later, it was the hottest thing on live T.V. 12 hours later, it was all history. And it's all true."

Answer: Dog Day Afternoon

"Dog Day Afternoon" stars Al Pacino as Sonny Wortzik, a desperate and largely incompetent man, who decides to rob a bank, to pay for his lover's operation. The problems start early when one of Sonny's accomplices runs away just after they enter the bank.

It doesn't take long for the police to arrive, and soon the site becomes a media circus. At times funny, "Dog Day Afternoon" is based on a true story and shows what not to do when planning to rob a bank. The tag line sets the scene perfectly for the movie, by explaining that this is one robbery that is not going to go according to plan.

It gives you a run down on what is going to happen over a period of time, and tells you that the movie is based on a true story.
9. "With the right song and dance, you can get away with murder."

Answer: Chicago

"Chicago" is about two woman, Velma Kelly (Catherine Zeta-Jones), and Roxie Hart (Renée Zellweger), and their quest for fame. Kelly murdered her husband and sister, after finding them in bed together, and Hart killed her lover, when she discovered he wasn't going to make her a star.

The two now are on death row and heading for the gallows. So in an effort to escape death, the two make a bid for fame and fortune and hopefully for a reprieve. The tag line explains how, if the woman can find fame through their singing and dancing, they may just be able to get away with their murders.

It depicts what the film is going to be about, music and crime.
10. "Are we a nation of gun nuts or are we just nuts?"

Answer: Bowling for Columbine

"Bowling for Columbine" is a film/documentary made by Michael Moore. It looks closely and unrelentingly, at America and its fascination with guns. Moore uses damning statistics, and his own unique comic style, to reinforce his message. The tag line is a rhetorical question, which provokes people in to thinking about the issue of weapons in society.

The tag line is perfect for the movie because all Moore is trying to do is provoke thought. Michael Moore has stirred up controversy, as a result of many of his documentaries.
