The IMF remove the package from the plane before it lands. During the operations report, it is revealed that the plane is carrying weapons that contained VX Nerve Gas, capable of causing major damage to many large cities. It is used in chemical warfare.

Also included in the operations report is the destination of the aircraft. The plane travels from Belarus to Damascus. The crew of the aircraft are immediately arrested once the plane lands.

Once captured, Ethan is cuffed to a pole sticking out of the ground. A man called The Bone Doctor enters the room along with other Syndicate agents and gives Ethan quite the beating. Realizing he will die before he talks, Ilsa Faust helps Ethan escape.

She knocks a few agents unconscious and in doing so gives Ethan the opportunity to knock the Bone Doctor unconscious and get loose atop the pole. He then undoes his cuffs after he and Isla kill/knock out the other Syndicate agents there.

Ethan Hunt decides to continue to hunt for the Syndicate agents and bring them down without help from a government agency. Benji works in the cyber group running through metadata and code for the CIA. William Brandt also decides to work for the CIA, even though his loyalties ultimately lie with the IMF. Luther declares retirement, but Brandt calls him in for help in finding Ethan, to which he agrees.

Ethan sends Benji two free tickets to the Opera in Vienna saying that he has won them. Once Benji gets off the subway in Vienna someone hands him a pair of smart glasses. He then converses with Ethan via smart glasses. Ethan believes the Leader of the Syndicate will be there and they plan to find him.

Upon entering the Opera House, Benji sees the Chancellor of Austria along with his wife getting out of their state car. While Ethan goes backstage looking for the Syndicate Leader, he sees a woman in a long yellow dress. Soon we find out it is Isla Faust, dressed to kill (literally).

She poses as a musician to get backstage. Her flute she carries is actually an improvised gun. The Flautist Assassin poses as well, carrying the same gun Ilsa does.

First, The Flautist Assassin and Ethan get into a fight above the stage, resulting in the former falling to his death. Realizing the Syndicate is there to kill the Chancellor, Ethan shoots the Chancellor only to wound him, trying to take him out of harm's way.

A car bomb was waiting for the Chancellor as insurance, which ends up killing him. A syndicate leader works for the Opera House and tries to kill Benji, but Ilsa shoots the Opera guard before he can kill Benji. Ethan and Ilsa then escape from the Opera House together with a rope from the rooftop.

Ilsa leaves behind a thumb drive hidden within a tube of lipstick. It gives the layout of a secure computer facility in Casablanca, Morocco. Ethan and Benji proceed to go there to find Ilsa and see what the next step is in bringing down the Syndicate.

The disc actually contains a digital Red Box, which the UK uses for transferring state secrets. Lane lied to Ilsa so that she would lie to Ethan. If Ethan and Benji knew what the disc actually contained, they would not have gone in and tried to steal it.

In order to access the disc, there must be a retinal and fingerprint scan of the British Prime Minister, along with the voice recognition, which in this case is a phrase from the poem "If" by Rudyard Kipling. The disc contains access to 2.4 billion pounds of untraceable money. It was set up by Atlee, a high-ranking official in the British government who initially created the Syndicate.
