Answer: RoboCop

Robocop, though he moved slowly and clumsily, was proficient in many other ways, and was eventually able to reassert his humanity over the cybernetic programming of his new body. The movie starred such greats as Kurtwood Smith, Ronny Cox, and (of course) Peter Weller as Alex Murphy, who eventually became Robocop.

Answer: D.A.R.Y.L.

The D.A.R.Y.L. robot, or 'Data Analyzing Robot Youth Lifeform', was considered a failure by the government and was set to be destroyed until a scientist let it out. It found its way into a family, and in the end, faked its own death and was given a new chance to be a real boy by one of the scientists who created it.

Answer: Mechagodzilla

There were actually three different Mechagodzillas (spanning five movies). The first was built by aliens whose homeworld was dying. They sent it to Earth in hopes that it would destroy humanity for them and they could take over our planet. Godzilla, fortunately, was able to defeat it (with some help).

The second Mechagodzilla was created by the United Nations to destroy Godzilla (which it did). The third Mechagodzilla was created (also by humanity) from the bones of the original Godzilla in order to defeat the current Godzilla but, disastrously, DNA in it's computer matrix 'woke up' when it heard the roars of the current Godzilla, and it sided with Godzilla, destroying part of Tokyo.

It was rebuilt later, and ultimately destroyed Godzilla.

Answer: The Terminator

The three Terminator robots were played by Arnold Schwarzenegger (T-101), Robert Patrick (T-1000), and Kristanna Loken (T-X). Each one got successively better, as changes in human technology were influenced by the remains of the Terminator robots left in the past.

The model sent back in the third movie, the T-X, was used in the future to hunt (among other things) other Terminator robots.

Answer: Cherry 2000

David Andrews (who also played Robert Brewster in 'Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines') played Sam Treadwell, the guy who broke his robot wife. Melanie Griffith played the tracker 'E' Johnson, who helped him travel through 'The Zone' in order to find her replacement.

Answer: The Colossus of New York

The Colossus was an uncaring version of the scientist whose brain had been implanted within. The Nobel winning scientist, who was killed in an accident involving a truck, lost his sense of humanity and his conscience when he became a soulless brain. The cyborg he became was a destructive, seemingly mindless killing machine that reacted only to the sight of his own son, who he asked to kill him.

His son, an 8-year-old boy, obliged and killed the cyborg containing his father's brain, thereby (presumably) saving humanity.

Answer: The Iron Giant

Interestingly enough, the robot seemed to be a test by those who created it (though its origins and motives were never revealed). Much like Gort in 'The Day the Earth Stood Still', it reacted to violence with utter destruction and elimination of the violent threat. Hogarth was able to convince the giant at the end of the movie that it had the ability to choose NOT to be violent, which it did.

Answer: The Stepford Wives

The original 'The Stepford Wives' (from 1975) was made as a sci-fi thriller with a rather unhappy ending. The wives were killed by their husbands in this version, and replaced with unerring, subserviant, desirable robot mates. The end of the movie suggested that the robot wives used the eyes of their human counterparts.

The eyes on the heroine's robot model were unfinished, and more artificial-looking than her eyes, but after she was killed and replaced, her eyes look perfect, just as did all of the other robot wives' eyes.

Answer: Cyber Tracker

The Cyber Trackers were created by a government agency overseen by a US senator involved in shady dealings. His hope (of course) was that he would run a squad of super police (responsible for not only tracking the guilty, but also judging and sentencing them), and he would be telling them who and what to pursue.

The robots embodied elements of both 'Robocop' and 'The Terminator', in that the robots were police enforcers created by a corporation (like 'Robocop'), but acted more like 'The Terminator' robots when they hunted down the alleged 'guilty' parties.

They even wore black leather biker jackets like Schwarzenegger did as the Terminator.

Answer: Inspector Gadget

This, like 'Robocop' and 'The Six Million Dollar Man' was about a man who, after an event which crippled him nearly fatally, was rebuilt. This one, however, had a much lighter, even spoofier tone. Inspector Gadget neglected to learn about all of his gadgetry, because Volume 1 of the manual was two feet thick (the TV show told of over 14,000 different gadgets).

As a result, he bumbled through the first half of the movie (though he did eventually get the hang of using them).
