Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Replicant hunter takes on evil empire

Answer: Blade Wars

Harrison Ford starred in "Blade Runner" (1982) as bounty hunter Rick Deckard. In a futuristic world, he must track and capture some out-of-control androids who've returned to earth to cause trouble. In "Star Wars" (1977), he's the heroic, somewhat roguish, starship captain, helping to rescue the princess and battling the bad guys of the galaxy.

The movie, unquestionably a cultural phenomenon, launched one of the most successful franchises of all time. Three things you might not know about Harrison Ford: He was bullied in school; he is notorious for zealously guarding his privacy and avoiding Hollywood hoopla; he is a master carpenter and an accomplished pilot.
2. Homeless, revenge-minded detective lives in abandoned car

Answer: Dirty Torino

Clint Eastwood starred in "Dirty Harry" (1971) as detective Harry Callahan, an angry vigilante bent on punishing a criminal who escapes the law. Later, in "Gran Torino" (2008), he played a more nuanced role as an old timer who must learn to relate to troublesome neighbors in the hard-scrabble modern world of Detroit, Michigan. Irrelevant fact: Clint Eastwood was a swimming instructor in the US Army during the Korean War.
3. Classy prostitute opens pizza joint

Answer: Mystic Woman

Julia Roberts starred in "Mystic Pizza" (1988), her first film. It's an ensemble piece of niceness about teenagers coming of age while working in a restaurant in Connecticut. In "Pretty Woman" (1990), which made her a star, she's the prostitute you'd like to be, or be with. If only real life came out this way. Richard Gere's character in "Pretty Woman" drove a Lotus because both Ferrari and Porsche declined product placement, not wishing to be connected with the "sex for hire" trade.
4. Nasty ex-movie star goes on crime spree with drifter

Answer: Mommie and Clyde

Faye Dunaway starred in "Mommie Dearest" (1981) as Joan Crawford, who allegedly raised her adoptive daughter in an abusive manner. Earlier, in "Bonnie and Clyde" (1967) she played a gun moll and cohort of notorious bank robber Clyde Barrow, played by Warren Beatty.

The real Bonny Parker was still married to another man, whom she wed at 16, during her crime spree with Barrow. They were never divorced.
5. Mob hit man gets plastic surgery, or does he?

Answer: Face/Fiction

John Travolta comes face-to-face with Nicolas Cage in "Face/Off" (1997) as an FBI agent who gets an unusual kind of transplant. Earlier, he resurrected his career in "Pulp Fiction" (1994), partnered with Samuel L. Jackson as mob hit men, and directed by the innovative Quentin Tarantino. John Travolta is a devoted follower of the religious sect of Scientology.
6. Schizophrenic savant faces coliseum conflict

Answer: A Beautiful Gladiator

Russell Crowe starred in "A Beautiful Mind" (2001) and "Gladiator" (2000). In the former, he recreates John Nash, the brilliant real-life Mathematician who struggled with the inner demons of mental illness. In ""Gladiator", for which he received an Oscar, Crowe plays a betrayed Roman general who is forced into slavery and becomes a legendary fighter in the grand arena of Rome.
7. Riverboat captain and missionary chase black bird up river

Answer: The African Falcon

Humphrey Bogart starred in "The African Queen" (1952), for which he received his only Oscar. He's the crusty Canadian captain with a good heart, who joins the intrepid woman (Katherine Hepburn) to help foil some WWI Germans in the backwaters of Uganda.

In "The Maltese Falcon" (1941), Bogie plays Sam Spade, THE classic movie detective, as he and a bunch of shady characters pursue a mysterious and valuable ancient statue.
8. Confused detective teaches kids, but dreams of Mars

Answer: Kindergarten Recall

Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in "Kindergarten Cop" and "Total Recall". In the first film, Arnold plays an undercover cop posing as a teacher in order to solve a case. However, the story gets complicated when he realizes how much he likes kids and teaching.

In "Total Recall" Arnold is troubled by dreams of Mars, and eventually realizes he's been brainwashed to forget some very important details. So he goes to Mars to straighten it out, and the real action begins. Both films came out in 1990.
9. Brothers rescue ubiquitous dimwit caught behind enemy lines

Answer: Saving Gump

Tom Hanks starred in "Saving Private Ryan" (1998) and "Forest Gump" (1994). These were two of the best efforts from the versatile and popular star. Both movies were nominated for Best Picture Oscars, and "Gump" won the award, along with Best Actor for Hanks. "Saving Private Ryan" is partly based on a true story of an army family (the Nilands, not the Sullivans) who lost two sons in WWII.

In the movie, a group of men are sent on a dangerous mission to save the Ryan family's last remaining son. "Forest Gump" is a the story of a simpleton who accidentally participates in many watershed American historical moments during the 1960s and 1970s, while trying to reconnect with his childhood love.
10. Neurotic New Yorker goes nuts in jungle

Answer: Annie Bananas

Diane Keaton starred in "Annie Hall" and "Bananas". Of course, these two films are Woody Allen signatures, which he wrote, directed, and also starred in. "Bananas" (1971) is one of his earlier films, a scattered comedy centering around a reluctant revolutionary somewhere in Latin America. "Annie Hall" (1977) is generally recognized as one of Allen's best.

The plot is basic relationship stuff, with the Allen character trying to get along with the endearingly flighty Annie. However, the dialogue and the depiction of New York is what makes the film. Keaton won an Academy Award for Best Actress, and Allen won director and screenwriting Oscars for this movie.
