Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If you crossed half a dozen or so available girls, took a family of siblings, and married them off, what movie musical would you have?

Answer: Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

"Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" (1954) is an excellent musical comedy starring the yummy Howard Keel, a demure Jane Powell, and a host of other talented singing and dancing stars. It tells the story of six brothers who, after their eldest brother successfully marries a woman on the day he first sees her, decide to kidnap six available girls from their nearest town to take home to be their wives as well. Nothing, however, quite works out the way they anticipated.
2. If you took Meg Ryan, and gave her a smooch from a country with the capital of Paris, what would be the resulting movie?

Answer: French Kiss

"French Kiss", made in 1995, is a delightful romantic comedy featuring Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline at their best. It tells of an unlikely love affair between an uptight Meg, who is terrified of flying, and a French con artist, played by Kevin, whom she meets on a plane when she is on her way to Paris to try to get her boyfriend back.
3. Taking Sally Field and Kevin Kline, and mixing them with a bathroom accessory for holding soap, gives you which movie?

Answer: Soap Dish

The 1991 film "Soapdish" has to be one of the funniest films I've ever seen. It is set in the studio of a soap opera, and relates the ongoing rivalry between members of the cast, a comical love affair, and every disaster possible occurring in real life as well as in the plot of the show.

It stars a host of brilliant and very funny actors and will have you laughing from the very first scene.
4. Throw Nathan Lane and Robin Williams into a container for holding avian creatures, and you'll have which movie?

Answer: The Birdcage

I truly thought I'd die laughing at the 1996 romantic comedy "The Birdcage". It stars Robin Williams in a surprisingly subdued role for him, as the owner of a nightclub for gay performers in Florida. Nathan Lane plays his over the top but extremely lovable partner who is the star of the show.

The problems arise when Williams' son, by a brief heterosexual fling years ago, decides to bring home his girlfriend and her parents to meet them. The girl's mother, played by Dianne Wiest, is no trouble, but her father, played hilariously by Gene Hackman, is a far right wing Republican senator from Ohio who is the co-founder of a committee to improve the moral standards of the United States.

This is one very funny movie indeed.
5. If you took a hit song by Buddy Holly, and a wedding, what movie does that give you?

Answer: Peggy Sue Got Married

Made in 1986, the romantic comedy "Peggy Sue Got Married" stars Kathleen Turner as a woman in a troubled marriage who is transported back to the past to relive the time in which she first fell in love with her husband. Nicolas Cage plays that husband and is surprisingly funny and vulnerable in the role.

There are two exceptionally funny scenes in this film. The first involves Peggy Sue, transported back to the 1960s, heartily singing the American National Anthem with nationalistic fervour in her classroom, while her fellow students, used to mumbling the song, look at her in astonishment.

The second, which is excruciatingly funny, is when she suggests to her future husband that they have sex in his car and talk naughty. He is shocked beyond all measure and tells her to get out of the vehicle.

It's a very, very amusing part of the movie.
6. Mixing Jamie Lee Curtis, Arnie, and a lot of fibs produces which action movie?

Answer: True Lies

The 1994 action comedy "True Lies" is one of the best action movies I've seen. It combines fast-moving, edge-of-the-seat action, humour, romance and a ripping good yarn all up. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a spy, one of the good guys of course, who has managed to successfully keep his secret from his wife (Jamie Lee Curtis) for 16 or so years. When she does find out, things get crazy.
7. Take John Travolta, Kirstie Alley and a very articulate baby, and you have which movie?

Answer: Look Who's Talking

Made in 1989, "Look Who's Talking" is a lovely yarn about a baby's thoughts being articulated by the voice over of Bruce Willis. Kirstie Alley plays the single mother who's given birth to Mikey, the most articulate child you could imagine, with John Travolta playing her would-be love interest. This truly delightful movie spawned two excellent follow-up movies as well.
8. Locating a fish with the same name as a captain of a famous submarine gives you which excellent film?

Answer: Finding Nemo

The 2003 "Finding Nemo" is a comedy animated film released by Disney Studios and one of the best they've ever produced. It's absolutely hilarious, with an engrossing story line to match, as Nemo's father, Marlin, sets off on a long adventure to find his lost son. Nemo has been captured by a scuba diving dentist to give as a gift for his niece (with a record of killing fish), and keeps him in his aquarium in the meantime. Marlin is accompanied in his search by Dory, a kind-hearted fish with memory problems, and together they face many adventures and perils before all ends happily ever after. You simply must see this film, for the Australian great white shark who's trying to control his blood-thirsty instincts if nothing else.

He's hilarious, with his "Gidday, I'm Bruce" broad accent.
9. Combine misgivings about a blaze and Robin Williams, and you'll have which hilarious production?

Answer: Mrs Doubtfire

"Mrs Doubtfire" (1993) stars Robin Williams in one of his best comedic roles, as he disguises himself brilliantly as a woman in order to take on the job of housekeeper for his ex-wife, played by Sally Field, and to be close to his children. Such is the skill of his acting as a woman that at times it's almost with a start of surprise that one realises he is actually a man.

This is a lovely, sad at times, but ultimately very funny film.
10. Take a quaint area of London, throw in Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant, and you come up with which movie?

Answer: Notting Hill

The 1999 romantic comedy "Notting Hill" stars Hugh Grant as a small-time book shop owner in Notting Hill, London. One day, he accidentally meets a very famous and very wealthy American actress, played beautifully by the lovely Julia Roberts. This is a really feel-good movie, packed full of laughs and nice feelings.

There's no ugliness in it anywhere at all and it leaves viewers with very happy smiles on their faces. It's a must-see.
