Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Anthony Perkins

The emojis show a knife dripping blood and someone screaming under a shower which brings to mind the iconic shower scene from the 1960 movie "Psycho", directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Anthony Perkins as the murderous motel owner, Norman Bates. Janet Leigh plays his first victim, Marion Crane, who is on the run after embezzling a large sum of money from her employer. According to IMDb, it took a whole week to shoot that 45 second shower scene.
2. Mahershala Ali

"Moonlight", as represented by the crescent moon and light bulb emojis, covers the turbulent life from childhood to adulthood of a black, homosexual man. It was eventually awarded the Best Picture Oscar at the 89th Academy Awards after "La La Land" was initially and mistakenly announced as winner in a monumental foul up. Mahershala Ali won a Best Supporting Actor award for his role as Juan, the drug dealing father figure of the main character.
3. Steve Martin

The emojis say it all - "Planes, Trains and Automobiles". Steve Martin as Neal Page is desperately trying to get home to Chicago for Thanksgiving and is helped... er... hindered by John Candy's well-meaning but annoying salesman, Del Griffith, who seems to be a magnet for disaster. Due to a series of mishaps, the pair are forced to endure each other's company as they hop from one mode of transport to another.

Despite his initial frustration with Del, Neal invites him to Thanksgiving dinner when he learns he has no home or family of his own.
4. Ryan Gosling

Ryan Gosling is Neil Armstrong in "First Man", a biopic on his life leading up to the Apollo 11 mission and moon landing. The movie is considered fairly accurate in its depiction of those events and even includes theremin music in the score as Neil Armstrong loved "Lunar Rhapsody", a piece for the theremin, and listened to it during the mission.

The emojis are a gold medal indicating first place and a man's head which gives us "First Man".
5. Saoirse Ronan

The pinching hand emoji is a classic charades gesture for small, little or short. Put it with four female emojis and you have "Little Women". There have been several screen adaptations of Louisa May Alcott's novel, with this version being in 2019. This ensemble cast is led by Saoirse Ronan as Jo March with Emma Watson, Florence Pugh and Eliza Scanlen as her sisters Meg, Amy and Beth.
6. Tom Hanks

A mailbox with letter emoji symbolises the phrase "You've Got Mail" featured in the movie of the same name. An animated version of that emoji can be seen on a computer screen in the film as we hear the classic AOL notification. Joe Fox (Tom Hanks) and Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) fall in love online through a series of emails not realising that Joe's family business, a huge bookstore chain, is putting Kathleen's quaint children's bookshop out of business.
7. Gene Kelly

The emojis of a speech bubble containing musical notes and a man dancing under a dripping umbrella pretty well translates to "Singin' in the Rain" as well as recreating the most iconic scene in that movie. Gene Kelly not only starred in the film alongside Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds - he also directed and choreographed.

A perfectionist, he is reputed to have been a bit of a bully on set.
8. Colin Firth

A man in a crown depicts a king and with the silhouette of a speaking head, represents the movie "The King's Speech". Colin Firth plays future King George VI, Bertie to his family, who stutters badly and is undergoing speech therapy with Australian Lionel Logue, played by Geoffrey Rush.

When his brother, King Edward VIII, abdicates to marry his twice-divorced lover, Bertie must overcome his impediment to deliver a speech as King to proclaim war on Germany. The film explores the relationship and friendship between the two men.
9. Clint Eastwood

A saint, a devil and an ugly disguise gives us "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly", the third instalment in the "Dollars Trilogy". It follows "A Fist Full of Dollars" and "For a Few Dollars More", all directed by Sergio Leone. In a role that made him a star, Clint Eastwood stars as the titular 'Good', Blondie or in the previous films, the Man with No Name. An interesting piece of trivia is that he wore the same poncho in all three movies without washing it.
10. Anthony Hopkins

The zip-mouth emoji says 'don't speak, silence' and with a number of little sheep, the movie here is "The Silence of the Lambs". Anthony Hopkins is chilling as Dr Hannibal Lecter and richly deserved his Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of the cannibalistic psychiatrist. Jodie Foster is equally deserving of her Oscar for FBI agent Clarice Starling, who needs Hannibal's insight and skills to catch serial killer Buffalo Bill, so named because he skins his victims.
