Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following does Alex say about his solo album?

Answer: All of these

It'sad but true. When Sophie has trouble coming up with lyrics for the song, she suggests a walk. While they are talking, Alex tells her that he dealt with Colin leaving the band by taking drugs, alcohol and ultimately recording his own solo album. He takes her to the music store and holds up the copy of his CD.
Alex originally made a mark on the back of the CD himself, and has been checking every week since. It's still there.
After telling Sophie about the comments Rolling Stone magazine made about his album, she says 'Well I'm sure there were other reviews.'
'There were, there were', he replies. 'But none as good as that one. And they were right by the way'.
2. Colin Thompson has released a perfume. What is it called?

Answer: A Whiff of Colin

It sounds whiffy to me. At the beginning of the movie two producers are selling a show about has-beens (titled 'Battle of the 80s' Has-Beens') to Alex, hoping to get him to appear. The trailer starts with a blurb about the band. 'PoP was one of the biggest bands of the '80s, but today they're known as Colin Thompson's old group. Colin, or as he's been dubbed by the Queen, "Sir Colin", has gone on to sell millions of records, star in blockbuster films and create his own cologne, "A Whiff of Colin".

But here's a question: Can you remember the name of the other guy in PoP?' They are of course, talking about Alex Fletcher.
3. When Sophie is about to confront her ex-boyfriend, she claims she is developing something. Which of these does she NOT think she is coming down with?

Answer: Anaphylaxis

After selling their song to Cora Corman, Sophie locks herself in the bathroom when she sees Sloan Cates at the restaurant they're in. Alex convinces her that the time is right to confront Cates about his best-seller, but Sophie starts to panic. 'I think I'm developing a sudden coronary blockage.' Alex: 'Those pass very quickly, okay?'
Sophie: 'Shortness of breath. Blurred vision.'
Alex: 'You're fine.'
Sophie: 'Scurvy?'
She thinks her throat is closing with an anaphylactic reaction when Alex puts a microphone in front of her so they can record the vocal track of their song.
4. What is the number plate on Cora's car?

Answer: Cora 1

Alex and Sophie go to Cora's studio to hear her version of their song. There is a brief shot of the outside of the studio and you see the number plate on her limo.
5. What does Sophie take to Cora's pre-recording session party?

Answer: Cookies

Sophie's mother told her, "Never go to a party empty-handed." So she goes to the Zen Eatery before the party and gets a selection of cookies.
6. Who has been an Alex fan since his time in the band PoP?

Answer: Rhonda

Sophie's sister Rhonda begins hyperventilating when she finds out Sophie has met Alex.
Gloria is the therapist who swaps clothes with Sophie before the big confrontation with Cates.
Mia works at the piano store, and while she may be a fan, it's not actually stated in the movie.
7. When Sophie asks Alex for a band-aid and some antibiotic cream, he says he thinks he's lent out his what?

Answer: Iron lung

Sophie and Alex meet when she takes over the care of his plants from Jane. She pricks her finger on a cactus and has to leave because it may get infected, especially since it hasn't started clotting.
8. Alex has trouble reading Sophie's writing and says it looks like it was done by a what?

Answer: Small Pekinese dog

Sophie and Alex try out their song in front of his doorman Khan, but he mistakes the word 'cloud' for 'clown'. Alex then tells her: 'You dictate, I'll write. And I will write like a human and not like a small Pekinese dog.'
9. Which one of Alex's heroes said he was a horrible songwriter?

Answer: Bob Dylan

After Sophie tells Alex that Sloan Cates' book is actually a not very flattering story about her, she goes on to say that she's haunted by the words he wrote. She then asks Alex how he would feel if one of his heroes told him he was a horrible songwriter.
Alex tells Sophie that Smokey Robinson would be too much of a gentleman to say something like that, but "Dylan might. Dylan would, actually. In fact, Dylan did."
10. Alex finally convinces Cora not to sing her 'steamy and sticky' version of the song. Which of the following does he NOT say?

Answer: It simultaneously destroys two musical cultures in under a minute.

Sophie makes this comment after leaving Cora's studio. At the end of the movie Alex and Sophie are talking backstage and Cora begins singing their song. Sophie asks 'Whatever happened to steamy and sticky'? This is when Alex relates his earlier conversation wth Cora.
