Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Complete the repeated quote from the beginning of the movie: "Corporate Accounts Payable, Nina speaking... ______".

Answer: "Just a moment"

As Peter arrived at work, Nina, the secretary, was heard answering the phone in Corporate Accounts Payable, Lumbergh's section, literally repeating over and over, "Corporate Accounts Payable, Nina speaking. Just a moment". Nina was played by Kinna McInroe.
2. At the Initech employees' staff meeting, Lumbergh also announced that next Friday would be a special day of sorts. What day was it?

Answer: Hawaiian Shirt Day

After talking about things like expense sheets and columns, Lumbergh closed the meeting (which was held in the cubicle bay) by telling his employees that next Friday would be Hawaiian Shirt Day, so if they wanted to, they could go ahead and wear a Hawaiian shirt, and jeans.

They had another staff meeting when the consultants, the Bobs, came in to review the company's efficiency. At that meeting, Lumbergh stood under a large banner that read "Is This Good For the Company?"
3. After being put into a state of relaxation by the occupational hypnotherapist, what was Peter's first act of defiance against his job?

Answer: Failed to show up to work over the weekend

Just before Peter went to the appointment with the hypnotherapist, he was trying to stealthily leave work so that Lumbergh couldn't find him and ask him to work over the weekend. Lumbergh did find him however, and told Peter to come in the next day at 9, and go ahead and come in on Sunday too.

At the appointment, the doctor put Peter into a state of total relaxation, but the doctor had a heart attack and died before he could bring Peter 'back'. Peter stayed in his relaxed state, completely changing his outlook on life and his work. The next morning, he ignored his alarm going off and ignored all the phone calls coming in from Lumbergh asking Peter where he was. When Peter finally got out of bed, he had 17 messages on his answering machine, from Lumbergh. He deleted them all and didn't go in to work.
4. What was Michael's last name?

Answer: Bolton

Michael and Samir, Peter's friends in the office, discussed their last names in a scene near the beginning of the movie. Samir couldn't understand why no one could pronounce his last name (Nagheenanajar), and Michael told him to be thankful that his last name wasn't Bolton. When Samir said that he thought that was a perfectly fine name, Michael explained that it was a fine name, until the '90s singer Michael Bolton got famous and ruined the name.

In a meeting with the Bobs, they gushed over Michael's name and told him that they loved the singer Michael Bolton's song, "When a Man Loves a Woman". They also had trouble pronouncing Samir's name. When they decided to fire him, they called him "Mr. Na... Na... Not going to work here anymore, anyway."
5. When Peter met the Bobs, he told them about his typical work schedule. What completes the following quote? "I'd say in any given week, I only do about ______ of real, actual work."

Answer: "Fifteen minutes"

They asked Peter to describe how he spent a typical day at work. Peter replied by saying that he generally arrived at least fifteen minutes late, sneaking in so that Lumbergh didn't know. He went on to say that he then spaced out at his desk for an hour, making it look like he was working but not actually doing anything; he said he did that for awhile after lunch too. He then concluded with the quote about only doing about fifteen minutes of work per week.

Peter also discussed with the Bobs the fact that he had eight different bosses, making 'not getting hassled' his only motivation to do any work and do it right.
6. The Bobs were really impressed with Peter after meeting with him and wanted to promote him.

Answer: True

Amazingly, after Peter told them all about how he slacked off and barely did any work at all, the Bobs loved him. Not only did they not want to let him go, they wanted to promote him and give him perks such as stock options. Lumbergh didn't agree, but the Bobs referred to Peter as a "straight shooter with upper management written all over him".

The Bobs decided to let both Samir and Michael go, and they couldn't believe they were losing their jobs and Peter was getting promoted. This was when Peter came up with the plan for the three of them to steal pennies at a time from Initech, building up a nice fortune. Of course, this didn't go as planned.
7. Peter started going out with Joanna, a waitress with an annoying boss of her own. What was the name of Joanna's seemingly perfect co-worker, that her boss compared her and her bare minimum 'flair' to?

Answer: Brian

When Peter met Joanna, she was working at Chotchkie's restaurant as a waitress. She was required to wear at least fifteen pieces of 'flair' - fun buttons and patches on her uniform. Joanna didn't really care about the flair and just picked up fifteen random things.

Her boss, Stan, approached her one day to talk about her flair. He seemed to think she didn't have enough, even though the policy was fifteen pieces, and compared her to Brian, a waiter who wore 37 pieces of flair. Joanna ended up quitting while making a rude gesture at her boss.
8. Why did Peter get upset with Joanna?

Answer: He thought she slept with his boss.

When Peter took Joanna to a barbecue with him, his buddy who also worked at Initech informed Peter than Joanna had previously slept with Lumbergh. Peter was disgusted and got mad at Joanna for it, but it turned out she'd slept with someone else with the last name Lumbergh, not Peter's boss, Bill Lumbergh.
9. When Peter's plan to rob Initech of tiny amounts at a time went wrong, with hundreds of thousands of dollars being deposited in his account in one day, he decided to return the money and confess. He slipped a letter under Lumbergh's door, but it was never found by Lumbergh. Why?

Answer: The building burned down.

Milton Waddams, a quirky office worker who mumbled a lot, had been threatening to burn the building down throughout the movie. Well, he finally did it. After leaving the money and a note to Lumbergh in the Initech building, Peter later drove by to see the building in flames.

The note was destroyed and Peter got away with the stealing scheme. Milton found the money and took off to a tropical destination with it.
10. What sort of work did we see Peter doing at the end of the movie?

Answer: Construction

While it wasn't quite the "doing absolutely nothing" that he dreamed of, Peter was happier working in construction than he was working inside in a cubicle all day. He was working on rebuilding the Initech building, with his friend and neighbour Lawrence. Michael and Samir found new jobs working for Initrode (pretty much the same work as Initech) and Joanna found a new job at another restaurant.

She and Peter had made up after their big fight.
