Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first episode of "Corner Gas" introduces us to the main residents of Dog River, including one newcomer from Toronto, who has inherited the local coffee shop from her aunt. Brent Leroy, owner of Corner Gas, is willing to give her a chance, but his friend Hank and others are wary of change. How does Lacey, the newcomer, finally win everybody over to her side?

Answer: Names the coffee shop after her aunt.

In "The Ruby Reborn", Lacey Burrows (Gabrielle Miller) renovates her Aunt Ruby's coffee shop, which is located next door to Brent's gas station and convenience store. Brent (Brent Butt) and most of the rest of the townspeople, including the two-person police force, are happy just to have a source of decent coffee. Hank takes exception to the "pink" walls and boycotts the coffee shop, until Lacey reveals that her final change is to name it The Ruby in honour of her late aunt.
2. In the episode "Bingo Night", which aired in the second season, what happens to Fred, the Bingo caller?

Answer: He falls off the stage.

Fred's misfortune opens the way for Wanda (Nancy Robertson) to take over his job. On a rare Thursday night off from her job at Corner Gas, Wanda goes to play Bingo and is present when Fred slips on a numbered ball and falls from the stage. Emma (Janet Wright), Brent's mother, suggests that Wanda take over and to everybody's surprise she does a good job of it. Emma is the only one who prefers Fred as caller, and schemes to get him back.

As an aside, it would be unthinkable for a person from Dog River to move to the rival town of Wullerton!
3. The Clavet Cup is entrusted to the care of Constable Karen Pelly in an episode from the second season of "Corner Gas". In which sport are teams competing to win this prize?

Answer: Curling

"Hurry Hard" sees the family Leroy split into two rinks, each attempting to cajole Lacey into playing for them. Oscar (Eric Peterson), Brent's father, also has to contend with Emma's temper which often leads to her using too much power when delivering a stone. Meanwhile, Karen (Tara Spencer-Nairn) is having trouble keeping tabs on the Cup and worries that she'll be in trouble with Davis Quinton (Lorne Cardinal), her superior in the police department.
4. A German shepherd dog comes to town in one third season episode, and Hank Yarbo mistakes him for the star of an iconic Canadian TV show from twenty years earlier. Which show is being both spoofed and honoured in this episode?

Answer: The Littlest Hobo

"The Littlest Yarbo" is played by Gage, the dog, and first appears when Hank (Fred Ewanuick) can't find his sunglasses. The dog finds them and Hank immediately leaps to the conclusion that the Littlest Hobo has come to Dog River, referring to him as "Canada's Lassie" at one point. Brent and Wanda scoff at him, pointing out that the TV dog, even if real, would have passed away long ago.

In the end, the dog proves to be the most clever mammal in Dog River, even as he moves on to the strains of the earlier show's theme song.
5. Games and sports play a big part in the life of any small town, and it is no different in Dog River. The Season 4 episode "The Good Old Table Hockey Game" is an example of this. The epic eight-game series between Brent and Karen is accompanied by the music of which Canadian star?

Answer: Stompin' Tom Connors

Connors' "The Hockey Song" provides the background music as Karen and Brent fight it out to be table hockey champion of Dog River, playing on a 1970s vintage game. Hank video tapes the games (in black and white) for transmission to the spot where townspeople have gathered to watch. Davis and Wanda coach the participants, and Lacey tries to raise money for charity - any charity - from the onlookers.
6. The last episode of Season 4, "Gopher It", has Hank and Oscar coming up with different ideas to increase tourism in Dog River. Which Dog River personage has challenged the people to make their town better?

Answer: Fitzy

Fitzy Fitzgerald (Cavan Cunningham) is the mayor of Dog River and has thought of the challenge because an election is coming up. Most people like Hank's idea, of painting prairie dog statues (though most get it wrong and want giant gophers), but Emma supports Oscar's idea of a casino.

She takes umbrage when Fitzy is rude to Oscar, and decides to run against him for mayor. Guest stars in this episode include the Prime Minister of Canada and the stars of "Canada A.M." as themselves.
7. The title of the fifth season episode "Wash Me" refers to Hank's truck, which he keeps in a dirty, dusty state in order to use it as his mobile notepad. Another plotline follows Wanda's attempts to impress one of the deliverymen who comes to Corner Gas. What does he deliver?

Answer: Milk

Try as she might, Wanda can't seem to get up the nerve to tell Joe the milk guy (Richard Quesnel) how she feels. Instead of telling him she likes him, she says that she likes two per cent (milk) and things get even worse from that point. He ends up completely confused and unaware that Wanda is trying to flirt with him.
8. Whose 40th birthday is being celebrated in the Season 5 finale, "The Final Countdown"?

Answer: Brent

Brent is turning forty, and is having trouble finding the bottle of 40 year old Scotch he's been saving for the last twenty years. Meanwhile Davis is nervous because of the fireworks that are on hand for the celebrations, and Oscar is doing his best to give him reason to feel that way.

The fun cameo appearance in this episode is by Kiefer Sutherland in not-quite Jack Bauer mode as the person Davis calls for help with the "explosives".
9. The sixth season episode "All That and a Bag of Chips" had Karen embroiled in a muffin-stealing scandal (as reported by the Dog River "Howler") and Wanda and Hank having difficulty figuring out Hank's e-mail password. Brent eventually solves that problem for them. What does he say is Hank's password?

Answer: yourpetsname

Brent tells them and Hank says, "Wiggles? We tried that." Brent explains that the password is, quite literally, yourpetsname. Wanda says she wasn't ready for that level of stupidity, and Brent then admits that he was standing next to Hank when he first entered it.
10. In the series finale "You've Been Great, Goodnight", Brent's friends follow him to the city to discover what he is sneaking off to do every week. Where do they find him?

Answer: A comedy club

Brent is trying his hand as a stand up comedian in a comedy club in the city, The Chuckle Barn, using funny stories about Dog River as his routine. He is offered a nationwide tour, but chooses to remain in Dog River where everything he loves can be found - though he does go fly fishing in the Yukon!
