Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who says, "I think I'm going to like this Democracy stuff"?

Answer: Rusty

Rusty says this while the family is on the plane, flying from Chicago to London. Clark brings up the fact that they are going to be visiting his relatives in Germany, and Rusty replies, "Not if we don't vote for it". Clark says, "You'll vote for it Rus", and Rusty asks, "Why should I?". Clark then says, "Because I just raised your allowance, that's why", and that's when Rusty says he thinks he's going to like that "Democracy stuff".
2. Who says, "Of course there's a bathroom; Europeans go to the bathroom, don't they?" [Opens a door and a hide-a-bed falls out]. "Maybe they don't!"?

Answer: Clark

When the Griswalds arrive at their hotel in London (the Royal Imperial Windsor Arms) and get their rooms, Ellen decides to take a hot bath. She begins looking around the room for a bathroom, and when she mentions to Clark that there is no bathroom, he begins opening doors in their room to prove to her that the bathroom is there somewhere.

It turns out that there is only one bathroom shared between all the rooms in the hall, although the brochure stated that each room had its own private bathroom and shower.
3. Who says, "The Griswalds in front of a fountain...major entertainment"?

Answer: Rusty

Once the family gets to France, Clark sees a fountain, and wants the family to pose in front of it for a picture. Rusty tells him that it's a dumb idea, but Clark insists, "it'll be a good shot; you'll remember it forever".
4. Audrey says, "It's 14 times as long as yesterday, and yesterday lasted...an eternity".

Answer: True

Audrey is completely smitten with her boyfriend Jack, and can't stand to be away from him for the whole 2 weeks she's in Europe with her family. When she mentions this to Rusty, he says, "two weeks is nothing", and that's when Audrey tells him that 2 weeks is 14 times as long as the day before, and for her, that day lasted forever.
5. Who says, "Oink, oink my good man!"?

Answer: Rusty

Clark takes Ellen out on the town one night for some "French culture", which involves visiting a nightclub/cabaret (which Clark clearly enjoys much more than Ellen does). As Ellen is getting up to leave the nightclub, she spots Rusty sitting in the back and drinking with a streetwalker. When Clark confronts Rusty, he drunkenly says, "Oink, oink my good man!".
6. Claudia, the girl Rusty meets in Rome, says "Those bells haven't rung in years...they're going to hang somebody!"

Answer: False

Claudia is actually the girl Rusty meets in Germany, not Rome. While Clark is dancing up on the stage with the German men, they all get into a big fight, and a huge riot-like fight breaks out among the crowd. Ellen and Audrey help free Clark from the mess of fighting people, and they start running for the car. Rusty (who is getting to know Claudia better while this whole dancing/fighting scene is going on) and Claudia hear some bells ringing in the distance, and Claudia says that the bells haven't sounded in years, and it meant that they were going to hang someone. Rusty immediately knows that it is his father who has caused the trouble, and runs to meet them at the car.
7. Who says, "Blood really is thicker than water. It's amazing to me how family ties break through the language barrier"?

Answer: Clark

When the family arrives in Germany, they are planning on staying with their relatives, Helga and Fritz. However, after they arrive, they mistake the address of their relatives' home, and end up staying with complete strangers. And, because the strangers don't speak a word of English, they can't tell the Griswalds that they have the wrong house, so they end up just letting them stay with them. Clark tells Ellen how amazed he is at how strong family ties are, and how amazing it is to be able to get along well with "Helga and Fritz" although they don't understand English at all.
8. Clark says, "Don't you want to see the Colosseum before you die?", but who is he directing it towards?

Answer: Audrey

When the family is walking through Rome, Audrey starts complaining about how much she misses Jack. Clark tells her that she should see the Colosseum before she goes home, and that Jack will always be there when she gets back. She tells him that the Colosseum will always be there, that it has been there for hundreds of years, but she says if she doesn't get home to Jack right away, he's going to fall in love with another girl named Debbie, and Audrey says she will die if that happens. That's when Clark asks, "Don't you want to see the Colosseum before you die?", which upsets Audrey even more, as she realizes she isn't getting anywhere with her argument.
9. Rusty says, "Yeah, maximum quaintness", when describing the German dining room at the peoples' house whom the Griswalds think are their relatives.

Answer: False

Audrey is actually the one who says "maximum quaintness" to describe the beautiful German dining room. Ellen says first, "It's so quaint", and Audrey replies, "Yeah, maximum quaintness".
10. Who says, "Oh, forget your votes! I'm seceding from the union, I'm forming my own government, and I'm declaring war on you!"?

Answer: Ellen

After seeing herself portrayed as a sexual image on a billboard in Rome, Ellen goes ballistic on Clark. He had promised her he would erase a video he had taken of her dancing around in a towel at home before they left for the trip. However, a man had stolen their camera while they were in France, and had apparently taken the footage of Ellen dancing in her towel and turned it into some type of naughty movie.

However, Ellen is furious with Clark, since he had promised her that he would erase that footage before anyone would see it.

She then walks away from him and tells him that she is going back to the hotel. Clark says, "We didn't vote on that, did we honey?", and that's where Ellen starts with her line of "Oh, forget your votes!".
