Old Enough Trivia Quiz

This quiz is about one of my favorite movies, "Old Enough" released in 1984. The movie stars Sarah Boyd and Rainbow Harvest. It is Alyssa Milano's first movie. RIP Danny Aiello. If you've seen this movie, this shouldn't be too difficult. Enjoy!

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of the movie, the Sloan family is discussing making fish for dinner. What kind of fish are they talking about?

Answer: Snapper

In the beginning of the movie, the Sloan family is sitting at the dining room table eating breakfast and discussing such things as when gymnastics is and what they are going to eat for dinner. Mr. Sloan says to make dinner for 8:00 p.m. Mrs. Sloan complains that this would be too late since they are having fish and it would dry out.

She says that Katherine, their maid, has already bought the fish, so they have to have it. She then says, "A snapper." Right after she says this, Lonnie amusingly snaps her finger.
2. At the dance, Lonnie asks her friend Sara where Sally is. Where is Sally?

Answer: France

When Lonnie is talking to her friend, Sara, at the dance, Lonnie asks her where Sally is. Sara says that she is in France. Sally is a friend of Lonnie and Sara whom we never see because she is in France.

Sally being in France is recapitulated after Karen and Lonnie leave the dance and Karen sneers, "Sally's in France," to which Lonnie says, "Yeah, well." Then Karen says, "Yeah, well, I showed them!" This scene goes on to show that Karen stole money from the coat closet, and that Karen is a not-nice person after all.
3. What games do we see the neighborhood kids play in the street during the movie?

Answer: Jumping off a fence and stickball

Near the beginning of the movie, the kids are daring each other to jump off a fence onto a mattress. This is where Lonnie and Karen first notice each other. This is also where the kid that chickened out told Johnny "your sister's rough!"

In the midst of the movie, the kids are playing stickball. Johnny throws easy pitches to Lonnie because he's sweet on her.

Neither football, soccer, roller skating or basketball are shown in the movie.
Johnny skateboards in the movie, but this is not a game played by the neighborhood kids. Similarly, Johnny rides his bike with Lonnie on the handlebars towards the end of the movie, but this is not a game played by the kids.
4. What religion is Karen?

Answer: Catholic

Karen is Catholic. This is shown many times in the movie. We see her prepare for Confirmation. We see her confess. We see her do Hail Marys on the rosary.

Lonnie, on the other hand, has no religious preference. Karen, being a devout Catholic, believes that Lonnie will burn in the pit of fire if she doesn't become Catholic. Karen invites Lonnie to her place and starts teaching her some of her religious practices.
5. Who dies in the movie?

Answer: Old Lady Kramer

Old Lady Kramer, a character that is never shown, dies in the movie. We find this very important piece of information out when Johnny and Lonnie are on the street. As Johnny casually skateboards, Lonnie asks Johnny where everyone is. Johnny says everyone is at Old Lady Kramer's funeral. He says she "bit the dust but didn't come up chewing".

If Old Lady Kramer had not died, Johnny would not have a reason to invite Lonnie up to his apartment for their game of Rummy.
6. At the payphone, what reason does Karen give the camp for Lonnie missing camp that day?

Answer: She's sick or something

When Lonnie ditches camp the first time, she tells the driver of the bus that she doesn't feel good and that her mother will call (to approve her absence, presumably). From a payphone, her new friend, Karen, amusingly calls in to the camp instead. Karen tells the camp person, "She's sick or something," and "Don't worry about it!"

After the call, Karen said that they already had Lonnie 'dead and buried'. Then Karen takes Lonnie to the five and dime to teach her how to shoplift.
7. What school does Karen go to?

Answer: St. Stans

At the dance, Lonnie introduces Karen to her friends. The leader of the friends, Sara, asks Karen, "What school do you go to? Miss Dobson's?" Karen answers, "St. Stans."

St. Stans is a real school. It's full name is St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Academy and it is in Brooklyn, NY. In 1983, when this movie was made, the tuition for Karen's 8th grade class was $1,200 per year.
8. What is Carla's nickname for Johnny?

Answer: Old Man

When Johnny carries Carla's groceries up to her apartment, Carla calls him Old Man as he is leaving. Because of this playful banter and the giving of the nickname, Johnny correctly suspects that Carla is returning his advances. We will see later in the movie that this is true.

The other nickname that Johnny is given in the movie is "pervert". Karen calls Johnny a pervert in the scene where he is again skateboarding and he tells Karen that Lonnie ain't bad, and to give her a couple of years and send her by.
9. What is the color of the lipstick that Karen steals?

Answer: Purple Passion

After Karen and Lonnie get back from their botched shoplifting spree, Karen shows Lonnie the makeup that she was able to steal after all. The lipstick that she got was Purple Passion, but she goes on to say, "What I really want is Fiery Red... That's my color." Lonnie is amazed at Karen's shoplifting prowess and her sense of style as well.

Jungle Green is a color of Krylon brand spray paint that was a favorite among my hoodlum friends in the 1990s until it was discontinued because it had become associated with graffiti.
10. What dance does everbody know how to do?

Answer: Cha Cha

At the dance, the master of ceremonies (who is also playing the maracas) says, "That was just great boys and girls. Now get your partners. We're going to play a Cha Cha Cha. Everybody knows how to do the Cha Cha."

We don't see the main girls do the Cha Cha, but we do see them dance the Waltz.
