Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the greedy beadle that runs the orphanage that Oliver is placed in at the beginning of the film?

Answer: Mr Bumble

Mr Bumble does not care about Oliver at all. After Oliver runs away Bumbles is only seen again when he is presenting a locket to Mr Brownlow, in the hopes of getting a reward.
2. Why does Oliver attack Noah Claypole, in a move that eventually leads to his being put in the basement and running away?

Answer: Noah insults Oliver's mother.

Noah states that it was a good thing that Oliver's mother died when she did or else she would be in prison doing hard labour (the implication is that she would be in prison for prostitution).
3. Fagin has a pet. What is it?

Answer: An owl

Up until Oliver's first night, the owl is the only one that watches Fagin get his chest of treasures from the hole in the wall!
4. What is the name of Bill Sikes' dog?

Answer: Bullseye

Bullseye is important to the story as it is the dog that leads the furious mob to his master, Bill, near the end of the story.
5. How does Fagin meet Oliver?

Answer: Dodger brings Oliver to Fagin.

Dodger noticed Oliver whilst he is looking about for something to steal, and after talking to him for a bit, realises that he has nowhere to go, and might be useful to Fagin.
6. What is the profession of Nancy?

Answer: Barmaid

Two of Nancy's biggest songs - "It's a Fine Life" and "Oomp Pah Pah"- are performed in the pub.
7. In "Who Will Buy", who is the first person that we hear trying to sell something to the rich?

Answer: A woman selling roses

It is the first morning Oliver spends at Mr Brownlow's house (which is in a very wealthy part of London), and "Who Will Buy" illustrates the difference between the rich and the poor and how they can come together in a song.

Oliver is looking out the window and notices a woman - holding a basket of roses - singing and this leads him to sing himself. Soon, others start to join in, such as the milk women and the window-washers.
8. How are Nancy and Bill able to kidnap Oliver when he's on his way to the bookshop with Mr Brownlow's money?

Answer: He gets distracted and starts watching a puppet show.

Nancy approaches him whilst he is watching the puppet show and leads him to the cart where Bill is waiting to put a sack over his head, stuff him in the cart and take him back to Fagin's.
9. How is Nancy able to sneak Oliver out of the pub to meet Mr Brownlow on the bridge?

Answer: She fills up the pub by having everyone sing and dance to "Oom Pah Pah".

It would have worked, had Bullseye not started barking the moment that Oliver was gone, which leads to the saddest moment in the film.
10. How does it end for Fagin?

Answer: He walks into the sunset with Dodger.

They walk (and dance) into the sunset singing "Reviewing the Situation".
