Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following actors were offered the role of Jim Garrison?

Answer: Harrison Ford and Mel Gibson

Harrison Ford turned down the role of Jim Garrison due to the political aspects of the movie. I have yet to find out why Mel Gibson turned the role down but it is speculated that he had similar reasons.
2. The real Jim Garrison was in "JFK".

Answer: True

Jim Garrison played Earl Warren in the film. He died the year after the movie was released.
3. According to the movie, where was Mr. X when he learned that JFK had been assassinated?

Answer: New Zealand

Although the movie never revealed the true identity of Mr. X, the character was supposedly based on L. Fletcher Prouty, who was the Chief of Special Operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In real life, L. Fletcher Prouty was a technical advisor on the film. This information was found on imdb.com.

It is worth noting however, that I have recently learned an alternate version of the Mr. X character's identity. It was rumored that Mr. X was a composite of several people, who each contributed varied information in one way or another. I have been unable to find a definite answer on the true character of Mr. X.

The scene with Mr. X was my favorite scene in the film, closely followed by Jim Garrison's speech at the end.
4. The speech Kevin Costner recited, in the courtroom at the end of the film, was the exact speech that Jim Garrison gave in real life.

Answer: False

This speech was never spoken in the courtroom. Oliver Stone pieced it together from speeches the real Jim Garrison gave at different times and quotes from his book.

In this scene, the character Jim Garrison became emotional while giving his speech to the courtroom. This emotion was not in the script and was the true emotion of Kevin Costner. The weight of the words apparently got to him and, in my opinion, it made the scene more emotional for the viewers and increased the value of the scene.
5. In the movie, Janet and Bill Williams took Marina Oswald into their home. These characters were based on what two people?

Answer: Michael and Ruth Paine

It was Ruth Paine who got Lee Harvey Oswald a job in the Texas School Book Depository. The other names are fictional.
6. According to Oliver Stone, the movie "JFK" was based partly on fact but mostly on fiction.

Answer: False

Oliver Stone insisted that everything portrayed in the film was based on factual evidence revealed to the public. Supposedly, nothing in the movie was based on fiction.
7. Which actor portrayed Willie O' Keefe?

Answer: Kevin Bacon

In the movie, Willie O' Keefe was a homosexual serving time in prison. He claimed to have been sexually involved with Clay Shaw and David Ferrie. He also claimed to have been witness to conversations between Clay Shaw, David Ferrie and Lee Harvey Oswald.
8. In the movie, one of Jim Garrison's daughters answered the phone to a prank caller. What was her name?

Answer: Virginia

In the movie, Jim Garrison didn't take the prank call seriously and it sparked a fight between him and his wife. She implied that she didn't believe her husband's theory and threatened to run out with the kids.
9. Which of the following actresses played the part of Marina Oswald?

Answer: Beata Pozniak

After being cast in the role of Marina Oswald, Beata Pozniak studied the entire 26 volumes of the "Warren Commission Report" and read every "Time" and "Newsweek" article about Marina Oswald. She then lived with Marina Oswald. It may be my own personal opinion, but I believe moving in with Marina Oswald was a little extreme, considering her role in the movie was brief to say the least.
10. "Let justice be done though the heavens fall" was a line spoken by which character?

Answer: Jim Garrison

Jim Garrison shouted these words to the media as he ran up the steps of the courthouse. This was just after the media had gotten wind of the investigation that Jim Garrison had launched in the assassination of JFK. In real life, Jim Garrison not only believed the conspiracy theory, but he believed Lee Harvey Oswald was completely innocent. According to the movie, Lee Harvey Oswald had no gun powder on his hands that day, to indicate he had shot a rifle. In addition, he is placed on another floor less than a minute after the shooting.

In the movie, Jim Garrison stated that records will not be released to the public until the year 2038. At the end of the movie however, the scrolling text stated that documents are set to be released in 2029.

Many people have their own thoughts and theories about the JFK assassination but I think most people will agree that the day the president was killed was tragic and life-altering.

Most of the information I have given in this quiz can be found on imdb.com. Thanks for taking my quiz!
