The only way to truly find out was near the beginning of the film, when the bolts instantly shot into the Captain's sleep chamber and killed him on impact. This was about the part where the ship started getting torn apart, after Riddick's narration.

Johns was dressed like one thing but really worked as something else, although he never specified what his occupation was. Riddick was the only one who knew for sure, but he did tell Fry later in the movie, when he basically cornered her in the skiff.

Riddick said where he was going in the first few minutes of the movie, during the short scene that he described in his own words. He also said that Johns was taking him to this place. He had just recently escaped from a slam, and Johns chased him down before the events of the movie took place. According to Riddick, a slam is a maximum security prison.

During the movie, the crew scrambled to the sand cat to get the power cells to the escape ship. The only problem was that the vehicle was solar powered. The crew waited too long, and the sun went down, forcing them to take the power cells by hand.

While Jack and Shazaza were working in the ship, they heared noises outside and thought it was Riddick. The man was not named, but Zeke accidently shot him, thinking he was Riddick.

When Fry saw the small ship, she screamed this in a fit of joy. Then she ran towards the space craft as the others followed in confusion. At this point of the movie their hopes were up, and all they had to do was get it running.

Johns died during his brutal fight with Riddick. Riddick did get a few blows in until the lights went out. Then a monster came and Riddick watched with his special eyes as the creature bit into Johns's head.

Once the great escape occurred the movie was pretty much over. Most of the crew died some brutal deaths, and Fry almost made it, until a monster got a hold of her. So the only escapers were Riddick,Jack, and Imam.

Imam asked to pray with Riddick as they took a break form their journey to the skiff. Imam didn't think Riddick believed in God, but Riddick begged to differ and called Imam this.
