"Poseidon" (2006) Trivia Quiz

Answer: Dylan

Dylan Johns, played by Josh Lucas, is the first character we meet while he is jogging on the deck of the ship. It is here that we get our first glimpse of the majestic Poseidon.

Elena asks Dylan (played by Mia Maestro and Josh Lucas respectively) for directions and he realizes that if she had boarded the ship with everyone else, she would have gotten a tour of the facilities and known where she needed to go. At this moment, he realizes she is probably a stow-away.

Dylan tells Maggie, played by Jacinda Barrett, that he makes his living by exploiting fellow poker players when they are at their weakest, like a husband who has just had a fight with his wife. He uses their vulnerability or over-confidence to beat them at cards every time. And from what we can tell, he makes a pretty good living at it.

Dylan and Robert start upping the bets into the thousands of dollars to force each other's hand. Earlier in the movie, we notice that Robert and his daughter Jennifer, played by Emily Rossum, have a strained relationship. She approaches her dad at the poker table and they exchange some heated words, mostly having to do with her low-cut blouse. Before she walks off, she loudly announces what her dad is holding and Dylan wins the hand.

Answer: Valentin

Valentin is the waiter who helps lead the group out of the ballroom. In a heart-stopping attempt to get across an elevator shaft, an explosion causes Richard and Valentin to lose their grip. Valentin is holding onto Richard's legs as the two dangle in the shaft. Dylan realizes that both men will die if Richard doesn't shake him off - and so he does. Valentin plummets to his death and Richard is clearly racked with guilt over it.

Answer: windows are cracking from the pressure

Tremendous pressure from the water causes the windows to shatter and the ballroom is quickly flooded. All souls are lost. (Look for Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas in this scene. She makes a cameo appearance as the band's lead singer.)

Answer: Conor

Conor's hands are small enough to reach through the grate that is blocking the shaft and unscrew the nuts that are holding it in place. He uses a cross pendant that Elena is wearing to loosen the screws.

Answer: the bow thrusters

If they can get to the engine room, they can sneak through the bow thrusters and out into the open. However, not only is Poseidon capsized, it is also starting to sink and the engine room is under water. The gang gets separated. Robert leads part of the group to look for a way out while Dylan and Maggie search for Conor, who has disappeared in the commotion.

Answer: She loves him.

Christian (played by Mike Vogel) had proposed to Jennifer earlier in the movie but is willing to sacrifice himself so that the remaining passengers can live. While he and Jennifer are saying their tearful good-byes, Robert jumps into the water to shut off the propellars himself. We knew that Robert didn't approve of Christian and Jennifer's relationship in the beginning of the movie but by the end, Robert is willing to sacrifice his life for his daughter's happiness.

The survivors are - Dylan, Maggie and her son Conor, Jennifer and Christian, and Richard. They make it into a life raft that is floating among the ship's debris just before Poseidon sinks into the dark sea.
