In this scene college professor Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) is showing cards to two student subjects and is asking them to tell him what is on the side they can't see. His subjects are a pretty girl (Jennifer Runyon) and a nerdy boy (Steven Tash) who Dr. Venkman apparently enjoys shocking with an electrical jolt, even when he gets the right answer. The girl is always told she is correct, even when she is wrong! When the male asks Dr. Venkman what he is studying, he replies, "I'm studying the effect of negative reinforcement on ESP ability."

In this scene Dr. Venkman (Bill Murray), one of three professors specializing in parapsychology, is questioning Alice Drummond, a librarian in the NY Public Library, about things she saw while putting books back on the shelves in the basement. Alice has encountered a ghost, books levitating across the aisle and flying catalog cards.

The three professors witness the transparent form of an elderly lady librarian, reading a book. When Dr. Venkman begins to talk to her, she shushes him. After Dr. Raymond Stantz proclaims he knows what to do, they stealthily approach the ghost and then Ray yells "get her!" The librarian ghost then changes into an angry, ghoulish, skeletal apparition that snarls at them.

The trio has the daylights scared out of them and they run from the library!

However, Dr. Venkman won't let him look, and stalls him by demanding he use the magic word, "please." Even after Peck adds the word "please" to his request, Dr. Venkman demands he first get a court order.

In this scene the NY Police Department have just dropped off a disheveled-looking Louis Tully (Rick Moranis) at the Ghostbusters' headquarters, and Dr. Egon Spengler helps him inside. Receptionist Janine Melnitz (Annie Potts) watches this, and then says this quote. After Louis claims he is Vinz Clortho, Keymaster of Gozer, Dr. Spengler says, "I don't think he's human." After Egon takes a call from Peter and learns Dana has been possessed by Zuul and now claims to be the Gatekeeper, they agree it would be very dangerous to get Louis and Dana together.

Agent Peck thinks the Ghostbusters are quacks and con artists and wants to shut them down.

In this hilarious scene the mayor of New York City (David Margulies) continues his mediation of the confrontation between the Ghostbusters and Environmental Protection Agency agent Walter Peck (William Atherton). After Dr. Venkman says this quote to the mayor, the mayor pauses, thinking it over. During the pause he looks at his friend, the Archbishop of NYC (Tom McDermott), who smiles and nods approvingly. Agent Peck is astounded by this and exclaims, "I don't believe you are seriously considering listening to these men!" His mind made up, the mayor then says, "Get him out of here!" (referring to agent Peck) and a NYC policeman hustles Peck out of the room.

In this scene the evil Gozer has boomed out the command to "Choose the form of the destructor," and Peter has cautioned his fellow Ghostbusters to clear their minds and think of nothing, so no form will be taken. A giant Mr. Stay Puft marshmallow man (complete with evil-looking grin) starts stomping through NYC. Peter comments, "Nice thinking, Ray."

In this scene the Ghostbusters have decided to try the risky move of crossing the energy streams from their proton packs, in an effort to destroy the temple and terminate Gozer's portal from the underworld. It works, and the temple is destroyed in a tremendous explosion, and the giant Mr. Stay Puft marshmallow man is incinerated (raining goo on a watching Walter Peck).

They think both Dana and Louis are dead, but then her fingers crack through the hardened ruins of the terror dogs and both eventually emerge as they were before being possessed. Winston exclaims this quote (the last line in the movie) as the crowd on the street cheers and the great theme music with the line "Who You Gonna Call?" starts playing!
