Bob eventually gets the family to compromise on the RV trip but keeps the fact that it is actually a business trip a secret. Barry Sonnenfeld directed the movie. The only award the movie received was a Razzie.

His wife Jamie is played by Cheryl Hines and their weight-lifting son is portrayed by Josh Hutcherson. Joanna "Jo Jo" Levesque worked previously with Robin Williams in "A Family Affair". Bob's wife is singing the song in the front seat of the RV when they start the trip and the family sings it with the Gornecke family later on. "Little GTO" was recorded by Ronnie and the Daytonas in 1964. Although they were a Nashville band they captured the California sound of the era.

Jeff Daniels began his career as a dramatic actor. After appearing with Jim Carrey in "Dumb and Dumber" he became adept at comedic performances as well. Kristen Chenowith attended college in Oklahoma on a vocal scholarship and appeared in Broadway shows before appearing in movies and television.

Bob Munro sneaks away to work on his presentation, using his laptop after the family is asleep. He becomes frustrated each morning because he is so remotely located that he cannot get a signal to allow him to send it, after spending the entire night typing it.

When Jamie opens the oven she sees raccoons and panics. After valiant efforts to capture them fail, Bob finally lobs a smoke cannister into the motor home and the raccoon family runs out.

Despite a warning from the trooper, Bob takes the RV over Diablo Pass and gets hung up on the rocky road. When he finally dislodges the RV he ends up rolling down the hill hanging from the windshield wipers. The sign for Diablo Pass is prominent before he starts the drive.

He often refers to the system as Lola throughout the film. He even has conversations with it from time to time. By naming it Lola he promptly starts a rivalry with his wife over directions.

When Bob arrives for his presentation at the company headquarters the name "Alpine Beverage Co." is prominently displayed on the building. The yuppie owners of the company track Bob down at the end of the movie and offer him a job because he was so honest with them.
