Answer: Cleopatra

The year was 1963. The most expensive film in the history of filmdom (at that time), i.e., "Cleopatra", was released. The plot focused on Cleopatra's attempt to save the Egyptian Empire by manipulating Julius Caesar and Mark Antony. The love triangle featured Rex Harrison ("My Fair Lady") as Julius Caesar.

The other two points of the triangle were Richard Burton (Antony) and Elizabeth Taylor (Cleopatra). The following year Taylor and Burton were married for the first time, from 1964 to 1974; they remarried from 1975 to 1976.

Answer: Swing Shift

Jonathan Demme ("Silence of the Lambs") directed the 1984 movie "Swing Shift". The film is set during World War II when a Navy wife, Kay, takes a job at an aircraft factory (as in "Rosie the Riveter"). There she meets a young man, Lucky, who was declared 4F (unfit for service).

They fall in love; then Kay's husband returns on furlough and... Kay and Lucky were played by Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. The two started their long-term relationship at that time, although that was not their first movie together.

Their first film together was "The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band" in 1968, but Goldie was twenty-one and Kurt was sixteen at the time.

Answer: Scream

Wes Craven's 1996 horror film, "Scream", presents a psychopath wandering around the small town of Woodsboro, Caifornia, killing people. The killer apparently has seen too many movies, and disguises himself and taunts his victims before slashing them to death.

In the midst of this unromantic setting, we meet Gale Weathers, the cold, self-serving news reporter and Deputy Dwight "Dewey" Riley, a law enforcement officer. Courteney Cox (Gale) and David Arquette (Dewey) met on the set, and were married in 1999.

They divorced in 2013.

Answer: Cruel Intentions

"Cruel Intentions" is a 1999 teen drama about students in an upscale Manhattan prep school, and the cruel games they play. Spoiled, manipulative step-siblings, Kathryn Merteuil and Sebastian Valmont, make a bet about 'deflowering' the new headmaster's daughter, Annette Hargrove, who has vowed to remain a virgin until marriage. Kathryn is played by that vampire slayer Sarah Michelle Gellar. Sebastian and Annette are Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon who were married that same year and, subsequently, divorced in 2007.

Answer: Gigli

The 2003 crime rom-com, and generally panned film, "Gigli" was the first that paired Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck. The convoluted plot featured Ben as Larry Gigli, the tough hitman with the 'heart of gold'. It seems that the mob hired Gigli to kidnap a mentally challenged man who was the brother of the California D.A.

The mob also sent Ricki (Jennifer Lopez), a "lesbian assassin", to make sure everything went as planned. They all wound up becoming friends. Ben and Jen have both moved on and on.

Answer: The Notebook

Many people look upon the movie, "The Notebook" (2004), as being one of the seminal love films; personally, I am not one of them. The film was based on Nicholas Sparks' 1996 novel, set in South Carolina in the 1940s. We meet wealthy young Allie Hamilton and mill worker Noah Calhoun who meet at a carnival and fall madly in love. But, as these plots go, class differences and World War II kept them apart. I will admit, seeing the older Noah and Allie at the nursing home, with the notebook, did make me cry. Rachel McAdams (Allie) and Ryan Gosling (Noah) became a couple when filming was over, dating on and off for four years.

Answer: Brokeback Mountain

Sometimes life reflects art. Such is the case with Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams who portrayed Alma and Ennis Del Mar in Ang Lee's hit 2005 movie, "Brokeback Mountain". Despite Ennis' marriage, he meets another young man, Jack Twist, as they are both hired as sheep-herders on Brokeback Mountain.

Their relationship grows, although they both go back to their families, trying to "quit" each other. They meet back up and...tragedy ensues. However, in real life, Michelle and Heath become partners, until his untimely death.

Answer: Step Up

"Step Up" is a 2006 movie in which troublemaker Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum) breaks into the Maryland School of the Arts and vandalizes the school. He is sentenced to 200 hours of community service, and winds up helping the janitor (of the same school) clean up.

It is there that he meets ballet dancer Nora Clark (Jenna Dewan). Circumstances lead to Tyler helping Nora with her choreography and, well, you can probably fill in the ending. The film not only helped jump-start Channing Tatum's career, but his personal life as well. Channing and Jenna were married in 2009.

Answer: Slumdog Millionaire

Danny Boyle's poignant 2008 film, "Slumdog Millionaire", gives us a look into the slums of Mumbai, India. The plot revolves around Jamal Malik, an eighteen year old orphan brought up in the slums, who is offered a chance to appear on the quiz show "Kaun Banega Crorepati?", for a prize of 20 million rupees.

He wants to win the money to get back his lost love, Latika. When Jamal is accused of cheating, we revisit his childhood and the horrors he experienced; the memories relating to the questions he was asked.

The pairing of Freida Pinto (Latika) and Jamal (Dev Patel) led to a real life relationship which lasted from 2008 to 2014.

Answer: The Last Song

Based on a screenplay by Nicholas Sparks, the 2010 drama, "The Last Song", depicts familial estrangement, hope, love and music. Ronnie (Miley Cyrus) is a rebellious teen living with her divorced mother. One summer she is sent to stay with her father at a small beach town. Ronnie hates her father and has no intention of even speaking to him. But, as fate and movie plots would have it, she meets a handsome young man, Will (Liam Hemsworth), who re-introduces her to music, and helps her rekindle her relationship with her father.

The film 'sparked' Miley and Liam's relationship which has been on-and-off again ever since.
