Hando is the leader of the skinhead gang. He lives by violence and takes what he wants in life. When Gabe admires a coat in the shop display, Hando smashes the window to steal it for her. Dave steals a beret from the shop and cuts his hand on the glass as they run away.

The gang live in a rundown warehouse squat in a 'rough' area of the city, and object violently to some immigrant businessmen and families taking over local businesses.
The location was made to appear as run down and a violent, dirty place to live in the film; it is not like that in reality, so please don't shout at me if you live there!
Russell Crowe and Daniel Pollock were arrested there during filming when they went walking in their skinhead costumes.

They have it all set up as a comfortable hideout, but lose almost all their possessions when they have to leave. When the rival gang corners the skinheads and try to break in, the skins are forced to abandon it and run for their lives via an escape hatch in the roof. Davy goes back for Gabe's coat and only just makes it out.
The warehouse used during filming is on Bunbury Street, Footscray, in Melbourne.

She has epilepsy and refuses to take her medication to control it. The gang only find out she has it when she takes a fit in front of them. Once he has seen her fitting, Hando loses interest in her as a lover.

The banner says "Deutschland Erwache" which means 'Germany Awake'. The banner is identical to those used by the Third Reich which were designed by Hitler himself.

Hando's gang throw a big party in their honour, and both gangs are involved in a fight the following afternoon. Magoo is played by John Brumpton, who has also appeared in episodes of "A Country Practice" and "Flying Doctors".

Dave lives in a little 'shed' or summer house building at the bottom of his grandma's garden. He doesn't want to stay with Hando because he has fallen for Gabe and can't bear to watch the way Hando treats her. Gabe finds him there and they become lovers.

Bubs, the youngest of the skinheads, is shot after pointing a pistol at the police when they force their way into the warehouse.
Bubs was played by James McKenna, who has also appeared in an episode of "Flying Doctors".

Gabe sets their getaway car on fire, and tells Hando that she called the police to the warehouse, so he attacks her. Dave tries to stop him, and as a last resort he stabs Hando in the neck and kills him.

This is the answer given when Martin asks "why" the gang have broken into his home and attacked him. We find out that Martin is actually Gabe's father, and she suggests his house as a target for the gang, to get revenge on him for the abuse she has suffered at his hands over the years.
"Romper Stomper" premiered at the Sydney Film Festival on November 14th 1992. Directed by Geoffrey Wright, it was nominated for nine Australian Film Institute Awards, and won three.
The slogan on the original cinema playbills, for the film in Australia, was "Mad Max Eat Your Heart Out" .
