Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If I wanted to spoil a film about lovers by saying, "They die," what movie would that be?

Answer: Romeo and Juliet

The girl dies in "Love Story" and "Fatal Attraction" but not the guy. The girl leaves the guy in "Casablanca" on his own urging.
2. If you wanted to spoil a film about a novice warrior and his evil nemesis by saying, "It's his dad," what movie would that be?

Answer: The Empire Strikes Back

Take away the bad guy's mysterious alias and he's got the same silly last name as the kid. To be fair this ending has been ruined by the filmmaker himself by making more films with the same characters.
3. If you wanted to ruin a film about a budding heterosexual romance by saying, "The girl is actually a guy," what movie would that be?

Answer: The Crying Game

One of the most surprising revelations I've ever seen, I must say. A friend of mine said she figured it out when Forest Whitaker asked Stephen Rea to help him relieve himself (Forest had his hands bound). She guessed that Forest must be gay and so his "girlfriend" must be a guy. I suppose it's possible...
4. You probably have the hang of the game by now so let me just give you the spoiler tagline and you guess the movie to which it refers: "It sinks."

Answer: Titanic

Crimson Tide and Red October are submarines. They don't sink they dive and they weren't destroyed. "Overboard" is a romantic comedy with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell where she's a wealthy socialite who gets amnesia when she falls off her boat and he's the carpenter and single father who claims her as his wife.
5. "He goes home."

Answer: E.T.

Hamlet dies, Robocop and Spawn wish they could go back to their old lives, but the fact that they are no longer human (cyborg and Hellspawn respectively) puts a damper on those plans.
6. "He's a ghost."

Answer: The Sixth Sense

Paul Hogan actually is an angel in "Almost an Angel", Mickey Rourke is the guy he's been looking for who sold his soul to the devil in "Angel Heart", and Kevin Spacey narrates from beyond the grave as a disembodied voice in "American Beauty". Only Bruce Willis is actually a ghost that only Haley Joel Osment can see in "The Sixth Sense".
7. "They find him."

Answer: Star Trek III: The Search for Spock

There is no Mr. Goodbar, Poppa is dead and so is the son from "Missing". Spock comes back to life and gets his mind restored.
8. "His wife did it."

Answer: Presumed Innocent

Yeah, they're all Harrison Ford movies, I noticed that too. In "What Lies Beneath" Harrison has an affair and then kills the mistress (tried to kill the wife too, but the dead mistress stopped him). In "The Fugitive" the wife is murdered (not by Harrison) and in "Witness" he's not even married. "Presumed Innocent" has Ford having an affair and when his wife finds out she kills the mistress. (He likes having affairs I guess).
9. "They're all dead."

Answer: The Others

Patrick Swayze is the "Ghost", but Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg are alive. Winona Ryder and her family are alive in "Beetlejuice" even though she seems eager to join the dead. Bill Pullman and Christina Ricci are alive in "Casper". Nicole Kidman, her husband, her children and even her servants are all dead in "The Others".
10. "It's a sled."

Answer: Citizen Kane

"U-571" is a German submarine, the "Sweetest Thing" is, presumably, love and the "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" is gold. In "Citizen Kane" Charles Foster Kane (Orsen Welles) says "rosebud" on his death bed and everyone tries to figure out what it means.

It was the sled he played with as a boy before he was sent away from his childhood home to become a rich and lonely man. The movie was based on real life millionaire and newspaper magnate William Randolf Hearst who, as rumor had it, called his mistress "rosebud".
