Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Red Pollard (Tobey Maguire) rode Seabiscuit in the 1938 Pimlico Special against War Admiral.

Answer: false

George Woolf (Gary Stevens), Pollard's best friend, rode Seabiscuit due to a leg injury that Red suffered before the match race.
2. What problem did director Gary Ross encounter while filming "Seabiscuit?"

Answer: He couldn't shoot the close ups of the actors while they were on horseback

To fix this problem, the technical crew decorated an equicizer to look like two horses. It could race down the track, move the heads of the horses, and make them look like they are racing, etc. They named it the S.S. Seabiscuit.
3. What directions did Red Pollard give George "Iceman" Woolf when he was in is hospital bed? Hint: Do this and Biscuit never loses!

Answer: Just hold 'em through that last turn, and let 'em get a good look at the Admiral, and let 'em go!

Seabiscuit ran on, intimidating other horses. If he could just look the competition in the eye, it would give him enough energy to win the race.
4. What race was there a noticable blooper in?

Answer: The 1938 race with Rosemont

This race was before Red Pollard (Maguire) broke his leg, but he is wearing the brace in the front close up.
5. What poster of a famous race horse is hanging from the wall in the annoucer's room?

Answer: Dan Patch poster

It was a red poster with the famous 1904 racehorse, Dan Patch.
6. In races the jockey and the horse have to wear a number. Which number did Seabiscuit NOT wear?

Answer: 7

He wore #9 at the San Miguel Handicap and his last race. He wore #5 at the race against Rosemount, and he wore #4 in the Santa Anita Handicap.
7. Tick Tock McGluaghlin (William H. Macy) was just a character in "Seabiscuit."

Answer: true

He was in the movie but not in Seabiscuit's real life. The director needed some comedy in the movie, so he put in a last minute character, played well by William H. Macy.
8. What was Tom Smith (Chris Cooper) looking for when Red (Maguire) told him the horse was signing autographs?

Answer: horse shoes

Charles Howard was giving out the horse shoes for free at an interview.
9. How tall are Seabiscuit and War Admiral?

Answer: Seabiscuit: 15 hands and War Admiral: 18 hands

They say how tall Seabiscuit is when they are talking about his life, and they say how tall War Admiral is in the news reel.
10. What racing form were almost all of the headlines in?

Answer: The Pacific Daily Racing Form

Some of the interesting headlines include: "War Admiral Stands Alone; Derby Winner Has No Weaknesses," "The Headless Horseman: What Was He thinking? Jockey Error Costs Biscuit the Big Cap," etc.
