Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'We begin by coveting what we see every day. Don't you feel eyes moving over your body, Clarice? I hardly see how you couldn't. And don't your eyes seek out the things you want?'

Answer: The Silence of the Lambs

Part of a conversation between Clarice (Jodie Foster) and Hannibal (Anthony Hopkins). Jonathan Demme directed this creepy film with amazing style.
2. 'Whatever you see, I see. Whatever you know... I know.'

Answer: The Astronaut's Wife

Johnny Depp's Spencer Armacost, having been taken over by the aliens or whatever, said this in his weird accent. His victimized wife was played by Charlize Theron. Theron also played a victimized wife whose husband moved her to NYC for a job in 'The Devil's Advocate'. Hmm.
3. 'There's a tiny door in that empty office. It's a portal, Maxine. It takes you inside John Malkovich. You see the world through John Malkovich's eyes, then, after about fifteen minutes, you're spit out into a ditch on the side of The New Jersey Turnpike.'

Answer: Being John Malkovich

This is one of the most ingenious films I've ever seen. I just kept thinking, 'who thought this stuff up?' John Cusack, John Malkovich, Cameron Diaz and Catherine Keener star. Spike Jonze directed.
4. 'When I close my eyes, I see this thing, a sign; I see this name in bright blue neon lights with a purple outline. And this name is so bright and so sharp that the sign -- it just blows up because the name is so powerful... It says, 'Dirk Diggler'.'

Answer: Boogie Nights

Mark Wahlberg's character fantasizes about the power of his screen name in P.T. Anderson's long and somewhat pretentious film about the porn industry in the 70s and 80s. I did really like parts of this film, and Julianne Moore and William H. Macy put in extremely powerful performances.
5. 'You smell that? Do you smell that? ...Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of napalm in the morning.'

Answer: Apocalypse Now

Kilgore (played by Robert Duvall) likened the smell of napalm to victory, as it effectively got rid of the enemy.
6. 'His spirit is gone but his stench remains.'

Answer: A Knight's Tale

Mark Addy's Roland said this line to try to explain that their master is dead. This movie was supposed to make Heath Ledger a full-fledged star, and much to my chagrin, it seems to have failed. I do admire his choice in working on 'Monster's Ball', though. The man's got taste.
7. Girl says: 'You taste sour.' Guy says: 'You taste sweet.' Girl says: 'I am sweet.' Guy says: 'Well, I'm sour.' Girl says: 'I don't' mind.'

Answer: The Adventures of Sebastian Cole

Ahh, teen romance. This girl wears some nicely flavored lip gloss (strawberry, I think) that Sebastian takes a particular liking too.
8. 'I like these calm little moments before the storm. It reminds me of Beethoven. Can you hear it? It's like when you put your head to the grass and you can hear the growin' and you can hear the insects. Do you like Beethoven?'

Answer: Leon

Gary Oldman's character said this in the classic Luc Besson-directed action film about an assassin (Jean Reno) who takes in an orphaned young girl (Natalie Portman). This film is also known as 'The Professional'.
9. 'What good would wings be if you couldn't feel the wind on your face?'

Answer: City of Angels

One of Maggie's young patients says this to her.
10. 'Houston, we are venting something out into space. I can see it outside window one right now. It's definitely a... a gas of some sort... It's got to be the oxygen.'

Answer: Apollo 13

Tom Hanks' character communicating with ground control. That must have been a frightening realization (as if the rest of the situation wasn't scary enough).
