"Carrie", the story of an abused teenage girl with supernatural powers who seeks revenge for the wrong done to her, was the first film adaptation of a Stephen King novel. It was released in 1976. The second Stephen King book ever to be adapted for the silver screen was a tale of vampires titled "'Salem's Lot", which was released in the United States in 1979.

Answer: The Shining

"The Shining", starring Jack Nicholson as writer Jack Torrance, was released in 1980. It tells the story of a family that tends to a shut-up hotel in the winter, only to experience horrifying supernatural occurrences and Jack's descent into insanity. The screenplay was co-written by director Stanley Kubrick and novelist Diane Johnson.

Stephen King has written at least 19 screenplays, some based on his previously published work, and some original. His debut movie as a screenwriter was "Creepshow", which was released in 1982. In cooperation with Chris Carter, he even wrote a screenplay for an episode of "The X-Files" titled "Chinga". It was the tenth episode of the fifth season.
