Haley Graham, played by Missy Peregrym, portrays a young teenage girl just trying to fit in and find her place in life. In the end she goes home with more than the gold, a life lesson she will never forget.

When Haley gets into trouble with the law, the judge tells her that she has two choices. She can either go to the Texas Military Academy or VGA, also known as the Vickerman Gymnastics Academy. When Haley chooses Texas Military Academy the judge says, "okay VGA it is".

Joanne is kind of known throughout the movie for her sarcastic and mean remarks. When the girls are competing at an in-house competition, Joanne is very rude and mouthy to Wei Wei and Mina. Haley tells her to stop being so nasty and that is when she comes back with this comment.

Poot and Frank are there for Haley from the beginning of the movie. They are always there to bail her out of trouble and they even watch Haley compete in the end of the movie. Poot always makes funny comments about how Frank is secretly gay, even though he is not, and Frank tells Poot that he is just jealous cause Haley likes him more. All in all they are very good friends to Haley.

At one point in the film you hear Haley tell Burt Vickerman the real reason she walked out of the World Championship. Her previous coach at the time, Chris DeFrank, started seeing her mother. That's when her parents got divorced and she felt like her whole family was being ripped apart.

Burt gets hurt in the movie when he falls off a trampoline leaving the girls alone for a while. This is when Haley's two friends ask all the girls to go out and have some fun. Joanne is a little resistant but finally gives in and her and Poot fall for each other. This is when he asks her to accompany him to the Jelly Beans.

Answer: Because her bra was showing.

After nailing an excellent performance the judges give Mina a very low score. Burt argues with the judges as to why they gave her that score. The judges then tell Burt it was because her bra was showing. Burt then proceeds to yell at the judge for such a ridiculous, ancient rule and she threatens to red card him. Burt now knows that they are not punishing her because her bra was showing, they are punishing her because he is her coach.

Answer: They start intentionally scratching and refuse to compete.

Right after the incident with Mina, Haley pretends to do a vault performance. She runs toward the vault and suddenly jumps up on top of it. Smiling, she pulls out her bra strap and snaps it in front of everyone including the judges! This is an intentional scratch giving her a zero. With all zeros, Mina is automatically the vault champion.

The girls now know that they have the power to control the results for once.

The other girls all scratch on floor by just touching one toe on the carpet and walking away. They agree that Haley should give a full performance and be the floor champion. She indeed takes the lime light and gives an amazing floor routine, making her the gold medalist for floor.

Tricia has held a grudge against Haley through the whole championship because Haley walked out on Worlds, originally causing their friendship to go sour. Right at the end when Haley competes for the floor routine, everyone scratches except Tricia. Then before you know it Tricia pulls out her bra strap and snaps it.

She scratched so Haley could have the gold and it's finally, water under the bridge for the two girls.
