Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What continuity error arises between the two actors who play Jack Napier?

Answer: Different coloured eyes.

The two actors to play Jack Napier are Jack Nicholson and Hugo Blick. Hugo's eyes are blue whereas Jack's eyes are brown.
2. At the beginning of the film, we see a crowd of people and the action starts with a man, his wife and his young boy. Who are these people?

Answer: Jimmy the tourist and his parents

These characters are never used again in the film. Tim Burton's original intention was to trick people into thinking he was twisting the origin story of Bruce Wayne into Batman. Instead, the scene where they go into an alleyway and get mugged is to provide Batman with villains to fight before the main action against The Joker begins.
3. What is Batman's first line?

Answer: "I'm not going to kill you."

Batman says this as he is kindly dangling one of the thugs from a rooftop. He asks the thug to spread rumours about him by saying, "Tell all your friends about me," before then saying the infamous line, "I'm Batman." The thug is then thrown back onto the rooftop as a now CGI Batman falls to the streets below.
4. What is The Joker's first line?

Answer: "Mirror."

This line occurs soon after we see The Joker's hand rising from the sewers. In this scene, the cosmetic surgeon who has been working on him has ultimately failed in his job and severed all the nerves in Napier's body. It's at this point that he demands to see a mirror, before laughing maniacally and leaving the room.
5. What is The Joker's last line?

Answer: "Sometimes I just kill myself!"

The Joker's last line occurs about five or so minutes after Batman's last line. This is when The Joker has almost won, and is being taken away by his 'Joker-copter', before Batman gets his own back by tying the Joker's leg to a near-by statue on the rooftop. When the camera is turning and zooming onto the 'dead' Joker's body, if you look close enough you can see Jack Nicholson blinking.
6. What is Batman's last line?

Answer: "I made you, but you made me first."

Very strangely, Batman's last spoken line is about 20 minutes before the end of the film as he's fighting with the Joker at the top of the bell tower. This is in reference to The Joker shooting his parents and Batman accidentally making Jack Napier fall into the vat of chemicals near the beginning of the film. Batman makes a very small appearance at the end of the film standing on a building.
7. Which character has the last line in the film, and what is that line?

Answer: Vicki: "I'm not a bit surprised."

Adding to previous points, it is very peculiar - but not uncommon for the director - to have the lead role not having the last, or almost last, lines. This line is spoken as Alfred is driving Vicki back to Wayne Manor, and he says, "Bruce Wayne will be a little late, Miss Vale."
8. Who directed this film?

Answer: Tim Burton

Tim Burton would go on to direct the sequel "Batman Returns" in 1992 but not "Batman Forever" because Warner Bros. felt "Batman" and "Batman Returns" were too dark. He would however produce "Batman Forever", but have no involvement whatsoever in the sequel, "Batman and Robin".
9. Who plays Harvey Two-Face in this film?

Answer: No-one

Two-Face does NOT appear in "Batman", Harvey Dent does. He doesn't become Two-Face until "Batman Forever".
10. What is the name of the newspaper that 'spins' into the screen warning Gotham about Smylex?

Answer: Gotham Globe

This is in reference to the old "Batman" series starring Adam West. There would regularly be spinning newspaper articles during this series. Gotham Globe just happens to be the name of the paper.
