Answer: AIDS

It was disclosed in the beginning that Richard was in the final stages of AIDS. Clarissa and Richard had been friends since high school and they shared an intimate relationship one weekend when they were young. Then Louis came into the picture, Richard and Louis became lovers.
2. What did all three main female characters have in common?

Answer: Depression

All three women suffered from depression. Nicole Kidman's character was based on Virginia Woolf who killed herself shortly after writing the book "Mrs. Dalloway". Julianne Moore's character was very unhappy being a mother and a wife and there was a hint of being bisexual. She was reading the book
"Mrs. Dalloway" when she decided to take her own life. In the end, she changed her mind and decided to abandon her family. Meryl Streep's character never really got over Richard, and everything in her life focused around Richard instead of her own life, and her partner and daughter.
3. Who was Nicole Kidman's character based on?

Answer: Virginia Woolf

Adeline Virginia Woolf was an English novelist. The death of her mother and her half-sister led to the first series of nervous breakdowns, with the death of her father leading to a breakdown that put her in an institution for a while.

"Mrs. Dalloway" was the title of a book that Virginia Woolf wrote in real life. The basis of "Mrs. Dalloway" was about a woman who was to host a large party. On the outside, she was very calm and collected and she seemed to be doing just fine, but in reality, on the inside, she was quite the opposite.

Watching them trying to bake a cake was very awkward. Laura seemed so detached from her son and herself. She wanted to bake a birthday cake for her husband and the first attempt failed.

Clarissa showed up early to pick up Richard for the party. Richard was surprised and a long, intense dialogue ensued. Richard ultimately opened the window, sat on the ledge and fell to his death. For Clarissa, the loss was very great, but at the same time, made Clarissa value her life more. As long as Richard was alive, she subconsciously felt that she and Richard were together.

Answer: Kill herself

After baking a second cake, she took her son to a babysitter, and checked herself in to a hotel with the intentions of killing herself. She also brought the book "Mrs. Dalloway" with her. It was at this time that she decided to not kill herself but to abandon her family instead, once her daughter was born.
9. Who was the soundtrack was written by?

Answer: Philip Glass

Philip Glass, who also wrote the music for "Candyman", "The Illusionist" and "Secret Window". This soundtrack was a perfect fit for the movie due to its dark, yet beautiful tones. It was so popular, they released another soundtrack of the first one, but played with piano, no wind instruments. It was just as beautiful as the original version.
