Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of the movie, Frollo was about to drown baby Quasimodo in a well. Who stopped Frollo?

Answer: The Archdeacon

Just when Frollo was going to let go of baby Quasimodo, the Archdeacon came over and yelled, "Stop!" Clopin was telling the story, and Quasimodo's mother and father were not in this scene.
2. Why did Quasimodo's mother run away from Frollo at the beginning of the movie?

Answer: He was threatening to take away her bundle.

At the beginning of the movie, Frollo thought her bundle Quasimodo's mother was holding was stolen goods and was going to take it away from her. Her bundle was her baby, and she knew Frollo was going to kill him once he found out he had a hunch back.
3. Do the animals in this movie talk?

Answer: No

In many Disney movies, the animals have more of a character like humans, and can talk. In this movie, the animals do not talk, and cannot communicate to people by talking. The only animals that are shown regularly during the movie are the pigeons and Esmeralda's goat, and they couldn't talk to the humans. The gargoyles could talk, but they are the only non-human characters that can.
4. Who sang "Heaven's Light"?

Answer: Quasimodo

Quasimodo sang "Heaven's light" after he helped Esmeralda escape. Esmeralda kissed him, and gave him her woven band of the city. "Heaven's Light" is about how after Esmeralda kisses him, the whole world seems to come together at this point for Quasimodo. After the song, he views Esmeralda as his friend, and he wants to save Esmeralda from Frollo.
5. What was Quasimodo doing when we first see him as an adult?

Answer: He was ringing the bells.

This may be a hard question. In the first scene with Quasimodo when there is dialogue, Quasimodo was talking with his gargoyles about the Festival of Fools. But he was ringing the bells at the end of Clopin's prologue at the start of the movie.
6. What was Quasimodo's nickname that his gargoyle's and his friends called him?

Answer: Quasi

Laverne, one of Quasimodo's gargoyles, called Quasimodo "Quasi" a lot. Esmeralda did too sometimes after they became friends. They didn't call him those other names. If I was Quasimodo, I'd be glad my friends called me "Quasi" instead of "Hunchback". In my opinion that sounds a little mean.
7. What were Quasimodo's parents names?

Answer: We don't know; the movie never told us their names

Quasimodo's parents were mysterious characters. We don't know why they came to Paris, where they lived before, or why they left where they were living before. We only see them traveling up the Seine River to the core of Paris. They got off the boat they were in and were suddenly stopped by Judge Claude Frollo.

After Quasimdo's father was arrested, we never heard nor saw anything about him ever again. We saw Quasimdo's mother's death, and her body being carried into the church by the Archdeacon.
8. What song did Esmeralda first sing?

Answer: God Help the Outcasts

"Paris" and "Never" I made up. Esmeralda didn't sing in "Topsy Turvy". "God Help the Outcasts" was sung by Esmeralda and a few other people in the church after she escaped to the church after saving Quasimodo.

"God Help the Outcasts" is about how many people refuse to help the gypsies and other outcasts, and the people who think they are righteous turn their backs on the problems which they could try to help.
9. What was the only song in the movie that Frollo sung by himself?

Answer: Hellfire

Frollo sang "The Bells of Notre Dame" with many other people, and "French Girls" and "Gypsies Gypsies Everywhere" are not real songs. "Hellfire" had red hooded monks in it, but they were just in his imagination.

"Hellfire" was right after "Heaven's Light". "Hellfire" was about how Frollo really felt about Esmeralda. To sum it up, he either wanted to kill her or to have her as his wife. This song was one of the darkest songs, and had a lot of meaning.
10. Who is in love with Phoebus in this movie?

Answer: Esmeralda

Unlike many other Disney movies, the main male character does marry the main female character, but they seem to do so in between movies. Phoebus and Esmeralda are obviously in love at the end of the movie.
