Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Al Pacino plays a character named Big Boy Caprice in the big screen adaptation of this classic comic strip.

Answer: Dick Tracy

"Dick Tracy" also starred Warren Beatty, Dustin Hoffman, Madonna, and William Forsythe, but I think Al Pacino stole the show with his over-the-top performance as Big Boy Caprice. Did you know that Al Pacino designed the makeup and wardrobe of Big Boy Caprice for the movie?
2. Pacino portrayed a character named Bobby in this movie about heroin addiction in New York City.

Answer: Panic in Needle Park

"Panic in Needle Park", which was released to theaters in 1971, was only Pacino's second film, and it was also the role that put him on the map. One year later, Al Pacino starred in Francis Ford Coppola's "The Godfather", and was forever immortalized in American cinema as Michael Corleone.
3. Al Pacino is best known for this role in a classic 1972 film based on a best selling novel by Mario Puzo. Pacino later reprised this role in the movie's sequels, which came out in 1974 and 1990. What was the name of Al Pacino's character in this famous trilogy?

Answer: Michael Corleone

"The Godfather I & II" are my two favorite films. I honestly have a difficult time deciding which one I prefer, and I change my mind all the time. I love the original because we get to see Michael develop into a ruthless crime boss, but the first sequel is just as good, considering that we get to take a peek into the back story of Vito Corleone, and how he became the godfather.

In my opinion, movie making and character development don't get much better than this.
4. Pacino plays a character named Will Dormer in this 2002 film co-starring Robin Williams.

Answer: Insomnia

"Insomnia" is a movie about a Los Angeles police officer (Pacino) who travels to Alaska to investigate a local homicide. Both Hillary Swank and Robin Williams co-star, and in my opinion, give fantastic performances. Did you know that Harrison Ford was once considered for the role of Will Dormer, and that Jonathan Demme was set to direct? Pacino eventually landed the role as Dormer, and "Memento" director, Chris Nolan, took over the helm as director.
5. In this movie, Al Pacino portrays a character named Ricky Roma, a slick real estate agent attempting to sell a worthless plot of land in order to save his job.

Answer: Glengarry Glen Ross

Another great performance by Pacino. No wonder that Pacino's co-star, Jack Lemmon, has been quoted as saying that the cast for "Glengarry Glen Ross" was the greatest ensemble that he has ever had the pleasure of working with. Other actors featured in the film include Alec Baldwin, Kevin Spacey, Alan Arkin, and Ed Harris.
6. Pacino portrayed the title character in this 1973 drama about an honest New York City cop who refuses to compromise his integrity. What film am I referring to?

Answer: Serpico

"Serpico" is the true story of Frank Serpico, and New York City cop who blew the whistle on the rampant, widespread police corruption that plagued the NYPD back in the 1960s and 1970s. Enjoy the movie? Then check out the novel, entitled "Serpico", which was written by Peter Maas.
7. Al Pacino portrays the cocaine-sniffing crime lord, Tony Montana, in this film directed by Brian De Palma.

Answer: Scarface

Legend has it that Brian De Palma was asked several times by studio executives to revise the final cut of "Scarface" so that it could be released into theaters with an R rating. De Palma happily obliged, and made the requested revisions. Several months later, when "Scarface" was released to theaters in the US, De Palma went ahead and sent the original, uncut version to the theaters anyway.
8. Al Pacino played Sonny Wortzik, a good natured bank robber, in this Sidney Lumet directed film.

Answer: Dog Day Afternoon

"Dog Day Afternoon" marked the third of three movies that Al Pacino made with co-star John Cazale. John Cazale co-starred in "The Godfather" and "The Godfather Part II" as Fredo Corleone, and he also portrayed Sal in "Dog Day Afternoon". Off screen, Pacino and Cazale were good friends, and they even shared a NYC apartment together before either of them became household names.
9. Al Pacino earned his very first Academy Award for his portrayal of Lieutenant Colonel Frank Slade in this 1992 film co-starring Chris O'Donnell.

Answer: Scent of a Woman

I still can't believe that it took Al Pacino this long to win an Academy Award! Al Pacino actually prepared for his role as the lieutenant by attending a school for the blind shortly before the filming of "Scent of a Woman" began.
10. Pacino co-starred with Johnny Depp in "Donnie Brasco", a true story about an FBI agent who infiltrates the mafia, only to find himself sympathizing with Al Pacino's character. What's the name of the small-time mafia character played by Pacino?

Answer: Benjamin 'Lefty' Ruggerio

Donnie Brasco is actually the mafia alias that Depp adopts in the movie. Tony D'Amato is the name of the character who Pacino portrayed in "Any Given Sunday", and "Henry Hill" is the real life mafia informant portrayed by Ray Liotta in "Goodfellas".
