"The Old Maid" 2 of 2 Trivia Quiz

This is one of my favorite Bette Davis movies of all time so far. It was made in 1939 and also starred Miriam Hopkins, George Brent and Donald Crisp.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where did Charlotte and Tina live after Grandmother Lovell died?

Answer: The Lovell Residence

While Charlotte was waiting downstairs after being told about Jim
Ralston's injury, she chatted with Jim's brother Joe. She mentioned to Joe she
had given up the nursery after Granny died. This means stands to reason kept
Tina there in the main house with herself.
2. Who was trying to calm Dee down at her wedding?

Answer: Dora

At Dee's wedding she was crying because she was so happy. Dora told the girl she should be happy. "Your gentleman has lots of money and your mother has lots of money and there's no war now."
3. Who was Tina's love interest?

Answer: Lanning Halsey

Lanning didn't care about Tina's status as a foundling but all his money was tied to his parents. It could be assumed that if he continued to be with Tina he'd lose his money. He had work in Paris he had to go to later at his parents' insistence. But he was invited to Dee's wedding along with his parents who didn't like Tina because she was a foundling.
4. Who caught Lanning kissing Tina late at night?

Answer: Charlotte

Lanning had taken Tina to a dance and had brought her home to a quiet house as everyone was asleep. Charlotte was eavesdropping on their conversation and saw them kissing much to her dismay. She said Tina was too free with kisses. Lanning didn't think it was a crime to walk Tina into the house. "If you think it was a liberty I apologize."
5. Charlotte offered to give Tina up for adoption to whom?

Answer: Delia

After Charlotte scolded both Lanning and Tina, he left. His family was packing him off to Paris hopefully to end the romance. Delia then offered to adopt Tina legally so she'd have a respectable name and money, and the Hasleys wouldn't think less of her and Lanning.
"Mrs. Delia Ralston requests the honor of your presence at the marriage of her daughter Miss Clementina Ralston to Mr. Lanning Halsey."
6. Whose wedding dress did Tina wear?

Answer: Delia's

After rehearsing for the wedding, Lanning was sent off home and Tina was to go to bed. Tina told Dr. Lanskell and Delia, "I wanted to wear Mummie's, the one Dee wore." Charlotte had offered her own to Tina but Tina declined wishing to wear Dee's, which was Delia's.
7. Whose wedding was the only one NOT celebrated?

Answer: Charlotte and Joseph's

Charlotte and Joseph's wedding was to take place there but at the last moment it was canceled therefore not celebrated.
There were three weddings: Delia Lovell and James Ralston's, Dee Ralston and John Ward's and Tina and Lanning Halsey's.
8. Who was the wedding coordinator for at least two of the weddings in the film?

Answer: Charlotte

Charlotte had planned Dee's wedding to John Ward and later on Tina's wedding to Lanning. Charlotte had taken over every detail of Tina and Lanning's wedding and told the cook to carve out 200 plates of ice cream for the wedding. She also asked for the whereabouts of the doilies wondering if they were with the wedding presents. There is no mention of who planned Delia and Jim's wedding.
9. Charlotte told whom she was going to tell Tina about her origins?

Answer: Delia

At the bottom of the stairs at the Ralston home Delia was about to go up to Tina's room to counsel the girl on the night before her marriage night. Charlotte thought, "Just tonight I am her mother."
Delia thought it was wrong for Charlotte to admit to Tina that she (Charlotte) is her mother. Yes she wanted Charlotte to admit to Tina her origins but not on the day before her wedding. Charlotte ended up not telling Tina but Delia did in a way causing Tina to feel horrible for how she treated Charlotte over the years.
10. What gift did Delia ask Tina to give to Charlotte?

Answer: A kiss

After being told of Charlotte being her mother Tina understood her so much better. Delia told Tina to give Charlotte a kiss just as Lanning puts her in the carriage. Charlotte was placing shoes behind the carriage nice and snug when Tina asked for Aunt Charlotte. She came to Tina's side and was given a kiss.
