Wilby is a curious and meddlesome teenager. He blows a hole in the roof of the family dwelling with a home made rocket.

Wilson Daniels is portrayed by Fred MacMurray who does a great job of appearing itchy, puffy, and irritated whenever a dog is lurking about. His wife thinks his dog allergy is psychosomatic, however, Wilson really does experience allergic symptoms whether or not he knows that a dog is nearby.

Professor Plumcutt and Wilby are old friends, although the absent minded professor has to be reminded that the boy used to deliver his newspaper. In fact, the Professor is a bit put out that he hasn't received a newspaper in quite some time, which is not surprising considering that Wilby quit delivering the newspaper two years ago!

Professor Plumcutt has been working on a museum display when he and Wilby meet. The professor tells Wilby about ancient mystical beliefs and mentions that during the Italian Renaissance the Borgia family was very rich and powerful and used curses against their enemies. In fact, although the family produced two popes they were noted for their dark deeds, which included such acts as murders and poisonings.

While speaking with Professor Plumcutt, Wilby accidentally knocked over a jewelry display case during which time the Borgia ring, bearing the cursed inscription, unknowingly fell into his pants cuff.

Answer: He transforms into his new neighbor's dog, Chiffon.

Chiffon is a Bratislavian sheepdog that truly is shaggy. He resides with the hotty who just moved in next door, Franceska. Due to Wilby's transformation into Chiffon he's able to get a leg up (pardon the pun) on getting to know her.

Answer: Performing a heroic act of selflessness

Professor Plumcutt has a lot of aplomb (go ahead and moan - I know you want to). Doggone it he didn't even turn a hair when he saw Wilby transformed into a sheepdog! He expressed no surprise at Wilby's shape-shifting, because he thought that Wilby was just the type of person that would be capable of transforming.

They then discussed how to remedy the situation during which the professor never questioned the reality and/or sanity of interacting with a talking dog.

Answer: Elation

Moochie (or more formally Montgomery) Daniels wants nothing more than a pet dog and even has a collar set aside for the glorious day when this transcendent event finally occurs. However, his father takes a dim view of Moochie's dream as he is a battle scarred veteran of the USPS, having experienced many unpleasant canine encounters and also has an attendant allergy to dogs.

However, Wilby's transformation makes him very appealing to Moochie, who thinks he's a lot more fun as a sheepdog than as a human being.

Answer: Manifests unpredictably

Wilby attends a dance as a favor to his friend and rival Buzz Miller. Buzz has over-extended himself by inviting both Allison D'Allessio and Franceska Andrassy to be his date. Wilby is supposed to act as a foil while Buzz somehow makes each girl think that they and they only are his date. Surprisingly Wilby finds himself in popular demand by many of the ladies on the dance floor, but alas gets fuzzy around the edges and has to sheepdoggishly trot off.

It doesn't help when he's spotted by local police officers later in dog form using a phone in a booth to call home.

Answer: He voluntarily enters, is taken inside, and spontaneously pops up there.

Dr. Andrassy and Franceska have no idea it's actually Wilby masquerading as Chiffon prowling the halls. Poor Stefano (the much put upon butler-spy) has his hands full trying to keep Chiffon inside. To whit, he found the dog outside the room he had been previously locked in, holding a screw driver in his mouth and the door taken off its hinges sitting nearby! However, there are times when Wilby enters the Andrassy home in dog form on purpose to sniff around and he at least once popped up spontaneously as Chiffon in the real Chiffon's bed.

Answer: Mr. Daniels reports the plot to the authorities.

Mr. Daniels' greatest regret was most likely listening to Wilby and Moochie, because when he reported the plot the authorities really put him through the ringer. The authorities kept him for hours, accused him of being a spy, and made him see a psychiatrist as he had mentioned that Wilby could turn into a sheepdog. Finally, Moochie sold his father out by saying that he himself didn't know anything about a dog and requested to go home since it was getting late. Mr. Daniels was shocked at Moochie's betrayal, but Moochie was able to get home in time to help Wilby escape the Andrassy home and pursue the spies.

Ah yes, the quintessential chase scene with Wilby as sheepdog driving first a convertible and then later stealing the police officers' prowler. The effects are quite good for both the dog talking and driving and it was most amusing that the dog liked to put his head out of the window to catch the passing breeze.

Answer: A transformed Wilby Daniels

Wilby, in sheepdog form, jumps into the water and rescues Franceska. However, Buzz, not knowing that Wilby is the dog, tries to take credit for saving her. Wilby, while still in sheepdog form, attacks Buzz but changes into human form during the fight.

It's dark, so Buzz is unaware of the transformation, which occurs while they're tangled in a net. Shortly afterward the real Chiffon appears and Franceska lavishes him with love, because she thinks he saved her.

Answer: Harbor Patrol

The police contact Harbor Patrol and request that they apprehend the escaping spies. The apprehension of the spies is not visually depicted in the film, but the scenes that follow confirm their arrest. For example, Wilson Daniels enjoys a media blitz that highlights his heroic actions in bringing down the spy ring.

Answer: Wilson and Chiffon become heroes and Moochie gets his dog.

Wilby is transformed into Chiffon when he rescues Franceska, so everyone thinks Chiffon saved her and that he merits a medal for heroism. Franceska returns to France, so in appreciation she leaves Chiffon with the Daniels family thereby fulfilling Moochie's dearest wish. Wilson, patriarch of the Daniel's family, is heralded as a hero by the press for revealing and apprehending the spies and their plot and finally has a change of heart about dogs and embraces Chiffon.

Answer: The curse is removed.

Wilby is finally free of the curse, because he performed a "Heroic Act of Selflessness" by saving Franceska from drowning and not receiving any reward and/or recognition for doing so. Also, Wilby and Buzz resume their friendship and make amends as Franceska has returned to France, thus ending their rivalry. Finally, Allison D'Allessio who was two-timed by Buzz and abandoned by a transforming Wilby on the dance floor (talk about dancing with four left feet) gets a little revenge by referring to them both as "neighborhood children" as she leaves on a date with another, older boy driving a convertible.
