It's rare to find a Disney movie where the main character and the villain never meet, but "Sleeping Beauty" is one such film. Maleficent found it to be incredible that Aurora had evaded Maleficent for 16 years. It was as if she vanished into thin air. Her henchmen then revealed that they had searched every cradle over the years. It was at this point that Maleficent realized that the reason she hadn't found Aurora was because they were looking for a baby even after Aurora was no longer one.

It was at this point Maleficent sent Diablo to find Aurora.
