Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of the film, we saw a car pull up to the Orphanage. Inside the vehicle was a young lady named Grace, private secretary of Oliver Warbucks. What was the name of the orphanage in the film?

Answer: Hudson Street Home for Girls

We saw the name of the orphanage on a plaque on the wall of the building. The plaque indicated the date the orphanage was established in 1891 as well. The orphanage was located in a poverty stricken area of New York City. This was clear when Grace pulled up to the entrance of the orphanage. The people were all down-trodden and dirty. They were in awe of the car and of Grace.

Once inside the orphanage, it was clear to Grace that it was in dire need of repairs and renovations. The light fixtures were just exposed light bulbs that hung from electrical cords. The windows had tape on them to cover the cracks in the glass. The rear window in Ms. Haninigan's office appeared as if a ball had been thrown through it. Also quite evident was that Ms. Hannigan was not a very good caretaker of the young orphaned girls. She woke them up in the middle of the night to clean the orphanage. She would often blow a whistle at the orphans to get their chores done quicker. She was also an alcoholic who was rarely without a drink in her hand.
2. What did Annie remove from Sandy's tail?

Answer: Annie removed a string of tin cans.

Annie had just successfully run away from the orphanage again. She was walking around the neighborhood when she heard a dog barking. He was being chased by several boys who were tormenting him. They had tied several tin cans to his tail and chased him into an alley. Annie followed the boys into the alley where she proceeded to beat all of the boys up. After she chased all the boys away, she untied the cans from the tail of the dog. He followed Annie after she left the alley. It was clear to the dog now belonged to Annie.

Annie and the dog were both spotted by the local dog catcher. The dog catcher put a rope around the dog's neck and tried to take him away. Annie asked what he was doing to her dog. She told the man that her father used the dog to get to work. The man then asked Annie what was his name. Annie looked at the dog catcher and asked why he wanted her father's name. The dog catcher said he wanted the dog's name. Annie along with several of the people who had surrounded her were yelling out names to get the dog to come to her. Finally Annie yelled out Sandy and the dog came to her. The dog catcher released the dog to Annie.
3. Why did Annie think Mr. Warbucks wanted a child for a week?

Answer: Annie thought Oliver wanted a child to improve his public image.

Oliver had just met Annie when he told Grace to take her back to the orphanage. Oliver had assumed Grace would get an orphan that was a boy. Grace said Oliver didn't say anything about getting a boy so she got a girl. Annie spoke up and said she thought getting an orphan for a week was a great idea. She told Mr. Warbucks she approved even if he was just doing it for his image. Oliver seemed a little taken by Annie at that point. He walked away and Grace asked if they could please keep her. Oliver replied, "Whatever", and continued walking. Grace turned back and smiled at Annie because she was able to stay.

This exchange was the first of many between Oliver and Annie. It was clear Oliver was impressed with the red headed orphan. I believe this was an important scene because Annie started to win Oliver over very early on.
4. What famous painting did Oliver have hung in his bathroom?

Answer: Mona Lisa

Oliver had just returned home from a business trip. He asked if the painting had arrived yet. Grace confirmed it had indeed arrived and was already opened waiting Oliver's approval Oliver had the men hold the painting up so he could view it better. He stood there looking at it for a few seconds. He loudly declared he did not like it and said send it back. A few moments later, Oliver would change his mind about the painting. He said there was something about her smile. He instructed the men to hang the Mona Lisa in bathroom.

This Leonardo Da Vinci masterpiece was a commissioned piece. The portrait was commissioned by the husband of Lisa del Giocondo. She was an Italian nobleman. For as long as I can recall, there has always been some controversy about her smile or lack of it. In my humble opinion, Oliver was correct in keeping the painting.
5. Where did Annie guilt Oliver into taking her and Grace for the evening?

Answer: movies

Annie really laid it on thick when she was trying to get Oliver to take her to the movies. She told him she had never been to a movie before. Annie would go even further and say her friend Pepper had claimed to have been to a movie. She would also state that Pepper lied a great deal so it may not be true. Annie would go on to say it was okay that Oliver didn't take her to the movie because then she would never know what she was missing. Annie was granted her wish when Oliver told Grace to buy out the 8 o'clock show at Radio City Music Hall.

Annie, Oliver, Sandy and Grace would see the film, Camille starring Greta Garbo and Robert Taylor. Grace was actively crying while Oliver had this perplexed look on his face at the end of the film. Annie fell asleep during the film. Grace and Oliver would both put a sleeping Annie to bed after the arrived home from the movies.
6. Who alerted Punjab to the presence of the terrorist?

Answer: Sandy

Oliver was taking a meeting with Grace in regards to selling some of his bomber planes. Annie and Sandy both came into Oliver's office because they were afraid to sleep in their room. Punjab and The Asp were also in the office. As the meeting progressed, outside you saw a man carrying a lit bomb. Sandy started barking as the man threw the bomb into Oliver's office. Sandy jumped through the broken office door and attacked the assailant. Meanwhile Asp threw the bomb to Punjab who immediately threw it out the door. Punjab and Asp, with the help of Sandy, apprehended the man. Sandy jumped up next to Oliver who thanked the dog for saving his life.
7. Who played the titular role of Annie in the film?

Answer: Aileen Quinn

Aileen Quinn was born on June 28, 1971. She was born in Yardley, Pennsylvania to Andrew and Helenann Quinn Sr. This was Aileen's first official acting job. She performed all her own vocals and dance routines in the film. She was 9 years old when she was cast in the lead role of "Annie".

After leaving the business Aileen would pursue a career in education. She has taught drama, dance, and Spanish. Aileen is also a recording artist and is truly a versatile and talented performer. Aileen was under contract to Columbia Pictures for many years for any further "Annie" projects. She was 16 years old when her contract expired.
8. What type of animal was Agatha riding at the end of the film?

Answer: elephant

Daddy Warbucks threw a party to celebrate the adoption of Annie. He had invited all of Annie's friends from the orphanage. He also invited Ms. Hannigan who tried to stop her brother from harming Annie at the end of the film. Agatha was riding on top of an elephant. She had taken a liking to Punjab. He was holding her hand while she was on top of the elephant. When the elephant turned to walk in a different direction, the pair was separated. Agatha quickly reached out for Punjab to grab her hand.

Oliver spared no expense for the party. He had entertainers of all varieties. There were acrobats as well as fire breathers. Daddy Warbucks also bought new clothes for Annie's friends.
9. What did Annie's parents leave with her at the orphanage?

Answer: locket

Annie was left on the door steps of the orphanage by her parents. They were unable to care for their daughter so left her to be a ward of the state. They placed a locket with their infant daughter to remember them by. Tragically her parents died in a fire some years later. Miss Hannigan had some of Annie's items stored in a box. The police had dropped the items off shortly after the parents had died. The other half of the locket Annie wore was inside the box.

Oliver had decided to adopt Annie to be his daughter. He told Grace to get her a gift. Grace was instructed to get Annie a new locket from Tiffany's. Oliver was distraught when Annie refused his gift. She told him her parents were still alive and one day they would come for her. Oliver told Annie he would help her find them.
10. Who directed the 1982 classic film "Annie"?

Answer: John Huston

The film was set during the Great Depression in New York City. The year was 1933 and poverty was running rampant. That however did not stop Annie's dream of finding her parents and being part of a family. The story really was about how people can find one another and make their own family. "Annie", the 1982 film, was about hope and overcoming obstacles to make your own wishes and dreams come true.

John Huston did an outstanding job with this 1982 classic film. I think he brought the musical to life on the silver screen in a wonderful way. The casting was wonderful, but in my opinion Carol Burnett was the best. John Huston had directed a great many hits such as "The Maltese Falcon" and "Prizzi's Honor". John sadly passed away in 1987 at the age of 81.
