Question 1 of 10
1. As "The Two Towers" opens, Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli run after the Uruk-hai in a marathon chase across the landscape. In one particular sweep of the camera, Legolas does something that is not very elf-like. What does he do? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. As the minions from Isengard and Mordor make camp at the eaves of Fangorn Forest, two of the Mordor orcs start to argue for a little taste of fresh hobbit meat. The leader of the Uruk-hai refuses, and eventually severs the head of one of the Mordor orcs to ensure the hobbits are "alive and unspoiled." At this point, what word does the Uruk-hai leader utter that seems completely out of place for the character?

Answer: (One word, four letters, has to do with a restaurant)
Question 3 of 10
3. As the three hunters are surrounded by the Rohirrim, we see one of the horsemen dismount and continue talking to Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli. A brief wide shot of the scene shows the horseman's mouth clearly moving when no dialogue is audible. What is the name of this Lord of Rohan, heir to the throne at Edoras?
Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. In a nighttime scene at the Dead Marshes, we observe Frodo reminding Gollum about his real name, "Smeagol". In a minor editing gaffe, the pitch-black night gives way much too quickly to daylight as the conversation ends. What specific occurrence startles Frodo and Smeagol out of their quiet discussion?
Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. The most glaring of the bloopers in "The Two Towers" (and perhaps in the entire trilogy) deserves two questions. First, when the Rohirrim attack the orc camp beside Fangorn Forest, which of the two hobbits being carried to Isengard is almost stomped to death by a horse?

Answer: (1 word, 6 letters)
Question 6 of 10
6. Regarding Pippin, what is the major blooper involving him that is shown to us, not once, but twice? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. The sound editing fails us when Frodo, Sam, and Smeagol arrive at the Black Gate of Mordor. We first hear the sound of the marching and chanting Easterlings somewhat belatedly, after the head of the Easterling column has already passed by our protagonists. To the best of our knowledge, what are these Easterlings primarily armed with? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. When Gandalf arrives at Edoras, he walks through the doorway of Meduseld in possession of his wizard's staff. The intercutting of sequences filmed at different times shows Gandalf using the staff as a walking stick when he is seen from behind. However, when he is seen from the front, the staff is held low and somewhat parallel to the ground. During this scene, who is walking to Gandalf's left? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. As Smeagol is being interrogated (quite brutally in the extended DVD version) by Faramir's men, Frodo and Sam talk about possible escape. The camera briefly shows Faramir as he enters to confront Frodo about the Ring. When the camera goes back to the hobbits, what has suddenly changed?
Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. The Battle of Helm's Deep and the emotional denouement at Osgiliath pass relatively free of bloopers. Towards the end of the movie we see Gandalf leading a group of victors from Helm's Deep towards Isengard. Which of the characters is portrayed by a "stand-in" actor in this sequence of somewhat grainy shots?
Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As "The Two Towers" opens, Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli run after the Uruk-hai in a marathon chase across the landscape. In one particular sweep of the camera, Legolas does something that is not very elf-like. What does he do?

Answer: He almost trips while running down a hillside

The camera shows Legolas stumble slightly as he makes his way behind Aragorn. This is understandable--the audio commentaries indicate that all three actors were injured when these chase scenes were filmed.

Answer: Menu

The Uruk-hai reference to a "menu" is discussed in detail by the writers. It does seem strange, in this screenplay blooper, that an Uruk-hai would be aware of anything as civilized as a menu. Nevertheless, it is an absolutely great line: "Looks like meat's back on the menu, boys!"

Answer: Eomer

This blooper is much more noticeable on the big screen, and shows Eomer moving his mouth but not emitting the slightest sound. Theodred, of course, is the son of King Theoden, who himself is the son of Thengel. Theodred would have been the heir, but he dies of wounds suffered at the hands of Isengard orcs.

Answer: The scream of an approaching Nazgul

Frodo and Smeagol hear the Nazgul before they see it. They and Sam quickly hide in the brush, and only then do they see the Nazgul astride the fell beast as it flies overhead.
5. The most glaring of the bloopers in "The Two Towers" (and perhaps in the entire trilogy) deserves two questions. First, when the Rohirrim attack the orc camp beside Fangorn Forest, which of the two hobbits being carried to Isengard is almost stomped to death by a horse?

Answer: Pippin

Pippin is shown lying on the ground, screaming as a horse of Rohan is poised to smash in his chest. During our first viewing of this scene, Peter Jackson cuts away to the three hunters, leaving us briefly in suspense.
6. Regarding Pippin, what is the major blooper involving him that is shown to us, not once, but twice?

Answer: His hands are shown untied, then once again tied

We view this blooper scene a second time in flashback, as Aragorn uses his tracking skills to learn where the hobbits had gone. Pippin's hands begin this sequence tied, but when we see him about to be stomped by the horse, his hands are untied and his arms are spread in dismay.

Afterwards, he crawls off to sever his bonds once and for all on the blade of a spear. Pippin still has his cloak, but he had discarded his leaf-shaped cloak pin earlier to signal the three hunters during the chase.

Answer: Spears

All of the Easterlings in the column do appear to be armed with spears, although neither of the DVD versions of "The Two Towers" nor the theatrical release of "Return of the King" shows the Easterlings in battle. The two individuals who look (in vain) for Frodo and Sam on the hillside certainly have spears.

Answer: Legolas

Legolas holds on to the wizard's arm at Gandalf's left side as our heroes stroll into the tension-filled room. The elf quickly swings into action as he, Aragorn, and Gimli dispatch Grima's henchmen with their fists.

Answer: The barrels behind the hobbits have suddenly disappeared

In much of the sequence, we see several barrels and other objects against which Frodo and Sam are leaning. However, after Faramir appears, the barrels are gone. Again, compliments to Peter Jackson for pointing out this error.

Answer: Eomer

In the audio commentary, Peter Jackson himself remarks on this unknown actor who is supposed to be portraying Eomer. As the group reaches Isengard at the beginning of "Return of the King," we confirm that it is indeed Eomer who is accompanying the expedition.
