Mason is the name of Tracy's brother, who is played by Brady Corbet. Javi, played by Charles Duckworth, is the name of the boy who asks Tracy out. Javi is not a main character in the movie, but is one factor in Tracy and Evie's fallout. Evie seems excited for Tracy when Javi asks her out and even sets them up on a date. Later on in the movie though, Tracy finds Evie and Javi coming out of a photo booth together and it seems like something is going on between them. Also, when Evie and her friends blow off Tracy towards the end of the movie, Javi is in the car they drive off in and he ignores Tracy along with the rest of them.

Wood accidentally swallowed a few of them throughout filming. Tracy also gets her belly button pierced in the movie, but Evie pierces it while the two girls are on Tracy's bed. Evan has a scar from Nikki Reed actually poking a needle into her belly during the belly piercing scene of the movie.

"It's happening so fast." and "They're not little girls anymore." were both used in promotional posters for "Thirteen". "Truth is Beauty" was not used in the posters, but is shown on a street poster in the movie. When Tracy is downtown and can't find Evie, she takes a drink of an unidentifiable substance and leans against a white poster of a girl's eyes with the line "Truth is Beauty" on it.

The eyes in the poster actually belong to Nikki Reed herself. "It's happening so fast." and "They're not little girls anymore." refer to the quick adjustment Tracy makes from being a shy immature girl before she became friends with Evie, to being wild and provocative when the two become friends. Tracy goes from being a good student and wearing little girl clothes to becoming a scantilly-clad drug addict who cuts her wrists.

Tracy calls her this because Brooke has had many plastic surgeries and looks like a monster. Brooke exposes Tracy's cut up arms to her mom when Tracy says this. Tracy is shown cutting her wrists a few times throughout the movie. Melanie is surprised to know that things had gotten that bad, but she defends her daughter anyway.

When Tracy comes home one day she finds her mother, Evie, and Brooke sitting in her living room and Tracy's secrets are exposed.
