Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. After Alex Kintner was killed by the shark, in "Jaws" (1975), Mrs. Kintner found out that the town leaders knew about the shark before her son's death. When she went to the dock to confront the person she held responsible, Mrs. Kintner slapped him. Who was it?

Answer: Chief Brody

Chief Brody was prepared to close the beaches after the girl swimmer's death, but the Mayor convinced the medical examiner to change the cause of death to boating accident. The Chief reluctantly let the beaches stay open for the holiday weekend, which was when Alex Kintner was killed. After she slapped him, a heartbroken Mrs. Kintner told Chief Brody that he killed Alex, because he knew about the shark and didn't do anything. Brody felt responsible and said that she was right.

Roy Scheider played Chief Brody, Lee Fierro played Mrs. Kintner (she reprised her role in "Jaws: The Revenge" (1987)), and Jeffrey Voorhees played Alex Kintner.
2. While stuck in his endlessly repeating day, Phil Connors learned the likes and dislikes of his producer, Rita, so he could win her over, in "Groundhog Day" (1993). After they had shared a nice day together, Phil became a little too pushy and Rita slapped him. Who played Rita?

Answer: Andie MacDowell

After their romantic day, Phil asked a hesitant Rita up to his room to read French poetry to her. When Phil kissed her, Rita said she should go, but Phil persisted, even saying he loved her. She questioned whether Phil had asked her friends what she liked and accused him of setting her up the whole day. Phil asked her to give him another chance, but Rita slapped him and said that was for making her care about him. This was followed by the snowman scene repeated, except this time Phil acted like a jerk. After that we were treated to a montage of an indignant Rita slapping Phil on various occasions. Bill Murray played Phil, the man who was destined to repeat the same day until he got it right.

Andie MacDowell also starred in "Sex, Lies and Videotape" (1989), "Four Weddings and a Funeral" (1994) and "Michael" (1996).
3. With the plane full of sick passengers, including her husband, a woman named Mrs. Hammen became hysterical, saying, "I can't stand it anymore. I've got to get out of here. I've got to get out of here!". After the stewardess shook her and said to calm down, a man interrupted, shook her and then slapped her. Then another man, a doctor, interrupted, shook her and slapped her, twice. In which movie did this scene take place?

Answer: Airplane!

Anyone who ate the fish for dinner on the plane Mr. and Mrs. Hammen were on became extremely ill. Naturally the flight crew chose the fish, leaving no one flying the plane. Shortly after a reluctant Ted went up to the cockpit, Mrs. Hammen couldn't take it anymore and began panicking. The passenger who took over from Randy, the stewardess, told Mrs. Hammen to calm down and get ahold of herself, shook her and slapped her. Dr. Rumack then said, "Get back to your seat. I'll take care of this", to the man, shook the woman, told her to get ahold of herself, and slapped her. He turned when a nun interrupted to say, "Doctor, you're wanted on the phone", then gave Mrs. Hammen another slap before stepping away. The nun told her everything was going to be alright before slapping her, then the camera panned down a line of people awaiting their turn.

Lee Bryant played Mrs. Hammen, Leslie Nielson played Dr. Rumack and Lorna Patterson played Randy in 1980's "Airplane!".
4. Jack and Rose eluded Lovejoy, Cal's valet, in order to spend the evening together, in "Titanic" (1997). Meanwhile, Cal found the sketch Jack had made of Rose and became more irate about her absence. When Rose and Jack came back to the suite to tell everyone about the iceberg, Cal had Jack arrested for stealing the Heart of the Ocean necklace. After Jack was taken away, Rose was slapped by her mother.

Answer: False

Rose had found an excuse to leave her mother earlier in the day, and then had sought out Jack. Despite Lovejoy and a bunch of stewards searching for them, they managed to have some private time together before witnessing the iceberg scrape the side of the ship. When they heard how dire the situation was, Rose felt they needed to let her mother and Cal know right away. Upon their arrival at the suite, Jack was arrested after the master at arms found the diamond necklace in his pocket. Rose was stunned, thinking Jack had only used her, but he told her not to listen to them. Later when they were alone, Cal started to say something to Rose, but instead slapped her, hard. As he took her by the shoulders to continue their discussion, the steward burst in to tell them they needed to put their life belts on.

Kate Winslet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Billy Zane and David Warner starred as Rose, Jack, Cal and Lovejoy, respectively.
5. Just after Mr. Boddy was found dead, someone speculated that maybe he was poisoned, in "Clue" (1985). Mrs. Peacock, who had just taken a drink of cognac from Mr. Boddy's glass, began screaming hysterically. Someone ushered her to a seat, and then slapped her. By whom was this done, and where?

Answer: Mr. Green, in the study

After handing out weapons to everyone in the study, Mr. Boddy advised them to kill Wadsworth so they could all leave the house before the police arrived. When he turned off the lights, there was a gunshot, the sound of ceramic breaking and then a scream. Mrs. Peacock turned the lights on to reveal Mr. Boddy's body. A brief discussion of the cause of death followed, during which Mrs. Peacock said she needed a drink and reached for Mr. Boddy's glass. Mr. Green went over to Mrs. Peacock after she began screaming, helped her to the sofa, and then, because she was still screaming, slapped her. The astonished look on her face was mirrored by the look on everyone else's face. Mr. Green noticed this and sheepishly said, "I, I had to stop her from screaming".

Mrs. Peacock was played by Eileen Brennan, Mr. Green was played by Michael McKean, and Mr. Boddy was played by Lee Ving.
6. In "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" (1989), Indy rescued his father from the Castle of Brunwald, where he was being held by the Nazis. It seemed nothing Indy did impressed his father, who seemed less than appreciative that Indy had come to rescue him. Indy was stunned, however, when his father slapped him after they had made their escape. Who played Indy's father, Henry Jones?

Answer: Sean Connery

After managing to get out of a seemingly impossible situation, Indy and Henry made their escape from the castle on a motorbike with a sidecar. Indy was proud of himself when he defeated a couple of soldiers while driving, but Henry just seemed annoyed by it. When they reached a crossroad, Indy began heading for Venedig, but Henry insisted he stop. Henry said they needed to go to Berlin to retrieve his diary, but Indy felt they should get to Marcus. Henry said Marcus would agree with him, prompting Indy to utter a blasphemous phrase. Henry slapped him, indicated that the slap was for the blasphemy, and mentioned how important it was for them to find the Holy Grail. At first stunned, a bitter Indy said that he never understood his dad's obsession with finding the Grail, and neither did his mother.

Sean Connery is probably best known for playing James Bond, but also starred in "The Untouchables" (1987), for which he won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar.
7. Viola De Lesseps returned from play rehearsals one day to find Lord Wessex waiting to speak with her, in "Shakespeare in Love" (1998). During their talk, Viola slapped Lord Wessex because he kissed her.

Answer: True

Viola quickly changed her clothing, but forgot to take her mustache off. Fortunately her nurse noticed and took care of it before Wessex saw it. Lord Wessex told Viola that the Queen had consented to his marriage, and then shocked Viola when he said it was to her. He discussed the fact that he needed money for his tobacco company, and that they would be living in Virginia for a few years. Viola asked, "Why me?", and Wessex at first said it was her eyes, then changed it to her lips. He walked over to her and kissed her, but as soon as she managed to push him away, she slapped him. When she realized her father and the Queen had consented, Viola became contrite and agreed to do her duty.

Gwyneth Paltrow played Viola, and Colin Firth played Lord Wessex.
8. A woman overheard two men discussing a young woman, and whom she belonged to that day, in "It's a Great Feeling" (1949). This prompted the woman to scold the men (using dialogue from "Mildred Pierce") just before she slapped both of them. When one said, "What's that for?", the woman shrugged and said sweetly, "I do that in all my pictures". Which actress, in a cameo as herself, was this?

Answer: Joan Crawford

Jack Carson and Dennis Morgan (playing themselves) were trying to get the studio head to notice the young woman, Judy (Doris Day), so he would cast her in their movie. They were at a dress shop helping Judy with wardrobe, when Joan (who was sitting behind them knitting) overhead them talking about who had Judy what day and what dress she'd have on. Joan indignantly told them they should be ashamed of themselves, but Jack said she didn't understand. Joan launched into the "I've never denied you anything" speech her character of Mildred Pierce gave to daughter Veda in "Mildred Pierce". Both men looked completely puzzled as she went on "...Get out. Get your things out of here before I throw them into the street and you with them. Get out before I kill you." Joan slapped Jack, then Dennis, and in response to Jack's question, gave her pert answer before flouncing off.

Joan Crawford won a Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of Mildred Pierce. As Mildred, she was on the giving and receiving end of slaps. Jack Carson also appeared in "Mildred Pierce" as her business partner, Wally.
9. In "Night at the Museum" (2006), Larry was working his second night when Teddy Roosevelt found him exchanging face slaps with an animal named Dexter, who had taken Larry's keys. What kind of animal was Dexter?

Answer: Monkey

Larry discovered on his first shift that all the exhibits at the museum came to life at night. On his second night, he thought he had taken care of Dexter's key stealing antics by allowing him to steal a set of plastic keys. When he saw all the animals running around, Larry found out that Dexter had somehow stolen the real keys anyway, and was flaunting them. After a brief stop at the Neanderthal exhibit to put out a fire (the cavemen loved the fire extinguisher foam, and threw some at Larry), he finally caught up with Dexter. Larry was just moving in to grab the keys when Dexter slapped him. They exchanged quite a few slaps before Teddy came along and stopped them. After Teddy (who, because of the foam, asked if Larry was rabid) got the keys from Dexter by asking nicely, a frustrated Larry handed the keys to Teddy and said he was quitting.

Dexter was played by a capuchin monkey named Crystal. Ben Stiller played Larry and Robin Williams played Teddy Roosevelt.
10. While in port, a ship's captain encountered a woman whom he addressed by the name Scarlett. She slapped him, but he told his companion he wasn't sure he deserved that. The captain recognized another woman who inquired about the previous woman, before also slapping him. He admitted to his companion that he may have deserved that. Which movie is this scene from?

Answer: Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Captain Jack Sparrow and Will Turner were on Tortuga to find a crew for their ship so they could go after Barbossa and Elizabeth, who were on the Black Pearl. Jack came across Scarlet first and then Giselle, both obviously ladies of distinction on the island. Jack had to turn the other cheek, so to speak, the following day when he and Will were inspecting the new crew. It turns out one of them was a woman named Anamaria who seemed to have a grudge against Jack. When she first slapped him, Will asked, "I suppose you didn't deserve that one either?", to which Jack replied, "No, that one I deserved". Scarlett and Giselle also made an appearance in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" (2006), only this time Will was slapped and asked to pass it on to Jack. In "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" (2007), Jack was once again slapped by both ladies after telling them things they didn't want to hear.

Johnny Depp played Jack, Orlando Bloom played Will, Lauren Maher played Scarlett and Vanessa Branch played Giselle.
