Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Don't look for a reason...look for a way out.

Answer: Cube

This 1997 thriller places a number of rather one-sided characters in a cube maze. The movie follows their attempts to find a way out. Although it was somewhat interesting, the characters were so revoltingly stereotypical and shallow that it was hard to really appreciate the work.
2. Some memories are best forgotten.

Answer: Memento

This 2000 film starred Guy Pearce, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Joe Pantoliano. It's a great film, particularly because of its reverse order of story telling. Pearce plays a man with short-term amnesia who is trying to piece together his past and get revenge for the wrongs done him.
3. You can't prepare for where the truth will take you.

Answer: 8MM

This 1999 flick stars Nicolas Cage as a PI investigating a mysterious snuff film. He gets totally caught up in the investigation, placing his own life in danger in search of a pretty gruesome truth. Although the merit of the movie itself is debatable, the score was decidedly good.
4. Don't trust a soul.

Answer: Fallen

Denzel Washington stars in this 1998 mystery. The premise is that a fallen angel, who can switch bodies with ease, is taunting the detective played by Washington after the execution of a serial killer.
5. You don't want to know what he does...you just want to know when he's caught.

Answer: Citizen X

I was pretty surprised by this 1995 movie starring Stephen Rea and Donald Sutherland. It takes place over a couple of years in a bureaucratic communist Russia as a detective tries to catch a serial killer who eventually claims over 50 young lives. Aside from the mystery plot, the movie provided an interesting perspective on the difficulties presented by bureaucracy in resolving the issue of a dangerous serial killer.
6. Killer Looks.

Answer: American Psycho

This 2000 film stars Christian Bale as a yuppie turned psychotic killer. Based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis, this was one really creepy movie. It's been a while since a movie has made me as nervous for one of the characters as I felt for Chloe Sevigny's secretary as she sat in Patrick's apartment.
7. If you don't believe in the existence of evil you have a lot to learn.

Answer: Apt Pupil

This 1998 movie stars Brad Renfro and Ian McKellen. It was a pretty disturbing story of a student blackmailing his Nazi war criminal neighbor into sharing his experiences with him. I was so disgusted by the scene with the cat, but (if I remember correctly) that particular part turned out okay.
8. A killer. A cop. Someone's buried alive.

Answer: Oxygen

This 1999 movie stars a pre-'ER' Maura Tierney and Adrien Brody. Tierney is the masochistic cop trying to get information out of Brody's criminal, and there are some relatively gross visuals of Brody removing bits of metal from parts of his body for escape feats.
9. New Year's Eve 1999. Anything is possible. Nothing is forbidden.

Answer: Strange Days

This 1995 movie stars Ralph Fiennes, Angela Bassett, Juliette Lewis, and Tom Sizemore. The title was certainly appropriate, as the movie was most definitely strange. I was actually most impressed by Sizemore's work on this film, but Lewis' turn at the microphone was a tad surprising, as well.
10. A murdered wife. A one-armed man. An obsessed detective. The chase begins.

Answer: The Fugitive

This is the 1993 action thriller that earned Tommy Lee Jones a well-deserved Oscar. He plays the Marshal set to bring Ford's Dr. Richard Kimble into the law.
