Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "I don't see the need. We are making excellent time."

Answer: Captain Smith

After the scene with Jack and Rose on the boat deck, we get to see Ruth, the mother of Rose, drinking tea with the Countess of Rothes. After Molly Brown has come to their table, they walk away to the boatdeck. We move directly to the conversation between Mr. Ismay and the Captain.

Bruce Ismay (Jonathan Hyde): "So you've not yet lit the last four boilers?"

Captain Smith (Bernard Hill): "No. I don't see the need. We are making excellent time."

Ismay: "The press knows the size of Titanic. Now I want to marvel at her speed. We must give them something new to print. This maiden voyage of Titanic must make headlines."

Smith: "Mr. Ismay, I would prefer not to push the engines until they've been properly run in."

Ismay: "Of course, I'm just a passenger. I leave it to your good offices to decide what's best. But what a glorious end to your final crossing if we were to get into New York on Tuesday night and surprise them all. Make the morning papers. Retire with a bang. Eh, E.J.? ... Good man."
2. "I guess we'll find out. Come on."

Answer: Jack Dawson

This quote comes from the scene where Jack is handcuffed in the master-at-arms office. Rose tries to save him with an axe.

Rose: "Will this work?"

Jack: "I guess we'll find out. Come on. Wait, try a couple of practice swings over there."

After the practice, she closes her eyes when she used the axe on the handcuffs. But she did manage to rescue Jack (for the first and last time).
3. "What's all this? You stand back, and don't move an inch! Fetch the master-at-arms."

Answer: Rowe

This quote is said by Quartermaster Rowe, when he sees Jack in the arms of Rose. Of course, he thinks something is wrong and lets the master-at-arms come to the poopdeck (together with Cal, Lovejoy and Colonel Archibald Gracie). In this scene Rose wanted to commit suicide, but Jack tries to convince her not to jump from the poopdeck in the cold water.

When she finally agrees to come back over the railing, she slips but Jack can grab her arm. He tries to pull Rose back on the deck (and he also succeeds at it).

Some sailors (under which Quartermaster Rowe) hear the screaming of Rose and run towards them.
4. "I need two men each to handle the fore and aft port. Now!"

Answer: Lightoller

Second Officer Charles Lightoller, who takes care of the boats on the port side, says this after the first boat is lowered (and also the first rocket). We can see Titanic slowly sinking at her bow. You can't see the officer because we directly move to the master-at-arms office where Jack is prisoned. (Lovejoy is about to leave but first he gives Jack a smash.)
5. "You know, I can smell ice, you know, when it's near."

Answer: Frederick Fleet

When Jack and Rose are making love in the car, we get to see Titanic from very far. Then we move to the first scene with the lookouts, where we hear one of the lookouts say: "Cor, it's bloody cold."

Fleet: "You know, I can smell ice, you know, when it's near."

Lee (the other lookout): "Bollocks!"

Fleet: "Well, I can, all right?"

After this, we can hear a short conversation between First Officer Murdoch and Second Officer Lightoller: "Do you ever find the binoculars for the lookouts?"

Lightoller: "I haven't seen them since Southampton. Well, I'll be on my rounds. Cheerio."

Then we go back to Jack and Rose in the Renault.
6. "Where to, Miss?"

Answer: Jack Dawson

This is said by Jack when he and Rose are in the cargo hold (in the car of William Carter).

Jack: "Where to, Miss?"

Rose: "To the stars."

She pulls Jack to the back in the car, so he sits next to her.

Jack: "You nervous?"

Rose: "No... Put your hands on me, Jack."

Then they start kissing and we move away to obtain a view from the Titanic in the dark night.
7. "Coal. More coal for number one, mate."

Answer: Leading Fireman Frederick Barrett

We can hear this quote from the fireman, right before he talks to Jack and Rose. When Jack and Rose are in the boiler rooms, they meet Leading Fireman Barrett: "Hold up. What are you two doin' down here? You shouldn't be down here. It could be dangerous. Hey!"

Jack and Rose then run away. Jack to the firemen: "Carry on! Don't mind us! You're doin' a great job! Keep up the good work!"

After this, Jack and Rose enter the cargo hold, where they gonna make love in a car.
8. "Right! Is everybody all right? Nobody panic!"

Answer: Lowe

Second Officer Lightoller and Fifth Officer Harold Lowe are filling boat #14. They are having problems with keeping the crowd calm. When a woman almost falls in the water, Lightoller gets angry: "Get back, I say, or I'll shoot you all like dogs. Keep order here! Keep order, I say! Mr. Lowe, man this boat."

Officer Lowe: "Right! Is everybody all right? Nobody panic!"
9. "And why do you have two steering wheels?"

Answer: Ruth DeWitt Bukater

Ruth, Rose and Cal are visiting the wheelhouse with Thomas Andrews as their personal guide.

Ruth: "And why do you have two steering wheels?"

Andrews: "We really only use this near shore."

Harold Bride, the second telegraphist, enters the wheelhouse: "Excuse me, sir. Another ice warning. This one's from the Noordam."

Captain Smith: "Thank you, Sparks. Oh, not to worry. Quite normal for this time of year. In fact, we're speeding up. I've just ordered the last boilers lit."

He really shouldn't have done that...
10. "Take a turn around the bend and lower the boat down onto the deck."

Answer: Second Officer Charles Lightoller

The band was just beginning to play the last song, "Nearer My God To Thee", when we hear Lightoller say this quote. You can't see him, but you know it's him because of his voice. He is also in charge of the boats on the port side (at that stage of the sinking, there was only one boat left, Collapsible B).

The band was playing music all the night on the port side, so it's quite logical that it was Lightoller's voice.
11. "What's the artist's name?"

Answer: Trudy Bolt

The first time Rose and Cal are in the "Parlour Suite". Rose is looking at paintings with her maid, Trudy Bolt.

Trudy: "This one?"

Rose: "No. It had a lot of faces on it. This is the one."

Trudy: "Oh. Would you like all of them out, miss?"

Rose: "Yes. We need a little color in this room."

Cal enters the room from his private promenade deck: "God. Not those finger paintings again. They certainly were a waste of money."

Rose: "The difference between Cal's taste in art and mine is that I have some. They're fascinating. Like being inside a dream or something. There's truth but no logic."

Trudy: "What's the artist's name?"

Rose: "Something Picasso."

Cal: "Something Picasso? He won't amount to a thing. He won't, trust me."

Rose: "Let's put the Degas in the bedroom."

Cal: "At least they were cheap."

After this scene, we can see Titanic dock at Cherbourg where the famous Molly Brown boards the ship.
12. "She says they can be here in four hours."

Answer: Second Marconi Operator Harold Bride

Harold Bride runs to the captain to tell about the vessels who are near the ship: "Sir! Carpathia says they're making 17 knots. Full steam for them, sir."

Captain Smith: "She's the only one who's responding?"

Bride: "The only one close, sir. She says they can be here in four hours."

Smith: "Four hours? ... Thank you, Bride... My God."
13. "Sir! Sir, you can't go through here. Sir, you can't go through!"

Answer: Moody

When Cal gets the opportunity to board a lifeboat (Collapsibe Lifeboat C on the starboard side). Lovejoy tells him that Rose is on the other side of the ship, waiting for a boat with Jack. Cal doesn't know what to do, but finally he decides to make sure that Rose would enter a lifeboat. So he walks through the wheelhouse (because that's the shortest way) and meets Sixth Officer James Moody, who tries to stop him.
14. "They're all aboard, Mr. Murdoch."

Answer: Bruce Ismay

Bruce Ismay is also standing with Collapsible Lifeboat C, and is helping to load it with women and children.

When Murdoch asks: "Any more women and children?" he replies: "They're all aboard, Mr. Murdoch."

Murdoch allows then also men in the boat, and when no more people are to be seen, Mr. Ismay grabs this chance with his two hands: he boards the lifeboat and leaves "his ship" with more than 1500 passengers still aboard.
15. "But there are a couple of boats all the way forward. This way. I'll lead you."

Answer: Colonel Archibald Gracie

When Rose, Jack, Tommy and Fabrizio finally reach the boat deck, there is no boat to be seen. But Rose quickly asks to Archie Gracie if there are boats on the other side. Gracie says that there are still a few boats all the way forward.

(note: this man survived the sinking on the overturned collapsible lifeboat B.)
