Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I drew a picture of Rose when she was on a couch. Who played me?

Answer: Leonardo DiCaprio

DiCaprio, born on November 11th, 1974 in Hollywood, California, was cast as Jack Dawson. Jack was involved in a poker game in which the winner would receive two third-class tickets aboard the luxury liner, the R.M.S. Titanic. Jack won, and boarded the ship.

While Jack was chatting with Fabrizio and a gentleman named Tommy one day, he noticed Rose nearby and was taken in by her beauty. One night, Rose contemplated suicide by jumping off the ship but Jack was there and persuaded her not to do it. To reward Jack for his good deed, Rose's fiancé, Cal, invited him to dinner.

After the dinner was over, Jack invited Rose to go to the third class for a party. In one scene, Jack drew a portrait of Rose while she lay naked on a couch. Jack and Rose dodged many obstacles while the Titanic sank and it was after the ship went underwater that he found a wooden board for Rose to lie on while help arrived. Jack also tried to get on the board but it turned over, so he stayed by Rose's side in the water.

When a lifeboat came by, Rose tried to wake Jack up but he did not respond as he had frozen to death. DiCaprio starred in the films "The Beach", "Shutter Island" and "The Departed". In 2005, he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for the film "The Aviator", but he lost to Jamie Foxx for "Ray". Other Oscar nominees for Best Actor in a Leading Role that year were Johnny Depp for "Finding Neverland", Don Cheadle for "Hotel Rwanda" and Clint Eastwood for "Million Dollar Baby".
2. My mother wanted me to marry Cal Hockley for his money. Who played me?

Answer: Kate Winslet

Winslet, a native of Reading, Berkshire, England, portrayed a young Rose DeWitt Bukater. Rose was first seen exiting a car all dolled up and donning a big hat to board the Titanic. It was revealed in the movie that Rose and her mother, Ruth, were saddled with a lot of debt from Ruth's late husband. Ruth wanted Rose to marry the wealthy Cal Hockley to ensure they would survive economically. Rose spoke with Jack the day after he rescued her from near suicide about her desire to be adventurous. Jack inquired if she loved Cal and Rose called him rude for asking that question. Rose then took a look at some of Jack's drawings and noted what a great artist he was.

There was one scene in which Cal framed Jack for stealing the necklace he purchased for Rose.

When the ship began to sink, Rose asked the ship designer, Mr. Andrews, where to locate someone who was taken under arrest. Mr. Andrews told her where to go and she found the room where Jack was held. She was unable to locate the key to unlock his handcuffs, so she ran off to get help.

She found an axe and used it to free Jack. At the end of the movie, Rose made it to the rescue ship and was approached by an officer to provide her name for the survivors' list. Rose gave the name "Rose Dawson" since she did not want her mother and Cal to know she was alive. Winslet starred in the movies "Finding Neverland", "Little Children" and "Revolutionary Road". She received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role for "Titanic" but lost to Helen Hunt for "As Good As It Gets" at the 1998 ceremony. However, in 2009, she won an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for the film "The Reader". Other Oscar nominees for Best Actress in a Leading Role that year were Anne Hathaway for "Rachel Getting Married", Angelina Jolie for "Changeling", Melissa Leo for "Frozen River" and Meryl Streep for "Doubt".
3. I predicted that Picasso would not amount to anything. Who played me?

Answer: Billy Zane

Zane, born in 1966 in Chicago, Illinois, played Cal Hockley. Cal was Rose's fiancé and a wealthy man who felt that Rose at times was too difficult to impress. When Rose started to unpack in her state room, she showed off a bunch of paintings and said they were done by a man with the last name of Picasso. Cal chimed in to state his belief this Picasso person would not amount to anything.

In Cal and Rose's first lunch scene, he told the waiter that both he and Rose would have lamb with mint sauce. Midway through the movie, Cal was seen at a church service with Rose and Ruth.

As the ship sank, Cal encouraged Rose on the deck to get into a lifeboat. He was upset when she jumped out and went running for Jack, so he grabbed a gun and started shooting at them. Cal managed to get into a lifeboat and it was mentioned at the end of the movie that he killed himself when he lost a lot of money in the stock market crash of 1929. Zane guest starred on the TV series "Samantha Who?", "Charmed" and "Boston Public".
4. I told Jack that he looked great when I let him dress in a tuxedo. Who played me?

Answer: Kathy Bates

Bates nabbed the part of Molly Brown. Molly's first name was Margaret but everyone called her Molly and she also earned the nickname "The Unsinkable Molly Brown". There was one scene when Ruth and a couple of other ladies had tea and noticed Molly about to sit down with them so they stood up to leave. Molly said she had hoped to catch them at tea but Ruth stated she missed tea and she and the other ladies were going to walk along the deck. Molly joined them so she could catch up on her gossip. Molly met Jack and told him he could not go to dinner in the first class dressed the way he was so she lent him a tuxedo she had.

She liked the way he looked and then asked Jack to escort her to dinner. Molly made it into a lifeboat and wanted to row back to the area where the ship sunk to retrieve more passengers but the captain of her lifeboat advised against it. Bates had parts in the movies "The Blind Side", "The Waterboy" and "Fried Green Tomatoes".

In 1991, she won an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for the film "Misery".

Other Oscar nominees for Best Actress in a Leading Role that year were Anjelica Huston for "The Grifters", Julia Roberts for "Pretty Woman", Meryl Streep for "Postcards from the Edge" and Joanne Woodward for "Mr. & Mrs. Bridge".
5. After Jack won tickets to sail on the Titanic, I accompanied him aboard the ship. Who played me?

Answer: Danny Nucci

Nucci, born on September 15th, 1968 in Klagenfurt, Carinthia, Austria, was cast as Fabrizio. Fabrizio was Jack's friend and won his ticket to board Titanic in a game of poker. He was seen midway through the film at a party held by the people in third class.

When the Titanic hit the iceberg, Fabrizio could be seen waking up upon feeling the boat shake. Fabrizio and his friend, Tommy, met up with Jack and Rose while the Titanic sank and all of them found a route to get to the deck. In Fabrizio's final scene, he was swimming and then looked up, only to see a smokestack fall on him. Nucci had guest starring stints on the TV shows "Castle", "Criminal Minds" and "CSI: NY".
6. I was distraught when my daughter refused to board a lifeboat. Who played me?

Answer: Frances Fisher

Fisher, a native of Milford-on-the-sea, Hampshire, England, portrayed Ruth DeWitt Bukater. Ruth was Rose's mom and had a good relationship with Rose's fiancé, Cal Hockley. Ruth was seen eating dinner right before Rose went to the back of the ship to contemplate suicide. Midway through the movie, the DeWitt Bukater's maid, Trudi, was helping Rose get ready for church service but Ruth excused her so she could talk to Rose. Ruth informed Rose she was not to see Jack anymore but Rose insisted she not worry or else she would give herself a nose bleed.

When it came time to board the lifeboats, Ruth asked if people would be seated according to class and that she hoped they were not too crowded. Rose blasted her mother for being insensitive since there were not enough boats for half the people aboard. Ruth got into the lifeboat, nonetheless, and told Rose to follow suit. Rose refused to do so and told her mother goodbye. Ruth was last seen when her lifeboat had just approached the rescue ship. Fisher guest starred on the TV series "ER", "Medium" and "Cold Case".
7. I was disappointed when I discovered that something from the Titanic wreckage contained nothing inside. I told the nearby cameraman to shut the camera off. Who played me?

Answer: Bill Paxton

Paxton, born in 1955 in Fort Worth, Texas, landed the role of Brock Lovett. Brock and his crew came upon the wreckage of the Titanic in the opening scenes. He used a machine to drag a safe out of the wreckage but disliked the fact that it contained nothing of substance inside.

He told a cameraman who filmed it to turn the camera off. When someone on his team discovered a drawing, he was shocked that it survived that long undersea. Brock spoke to a news reporter about what he found and an older Rose saw the drawing on the TV.

She called up Brock to tell her she was the woman in the picture. Paxton had roles in the movies "Twister", "True Lies" and "Apollo 13".
8. I accompanied my grandmother when she went to meet Brock Lovett and his team. Who played me?

Answer: Suzy Amis

Amis had the minor role of Lizzy Calvert. Lizzy was Rose's granddaughter and took care of her grandma, since she was 100 years old (Lewis mentioned this in the movie). In Lizzy's first scene, she was feeding her dog and Rose was outside at her pottery wheel when she heard a news report mention the word "Titanic". Rose entered the kitchen and asked Lizzy to turn the TV up.

When Rose went to go talk to Brock, Lizzy went with her and heard her tell the story of surviving the Titanic sinking. When Rose mentioned how many people died because of the sinking, Lizzy was seen shedding tears. Amis had parts in the movies "Blown Away", "The Usual Suspects" and "Firestorm". On June 4th, 2000, she married the Oscar winning director of "Titanic", James Cameron.
9. I was the richest man on the ship. Who played me?

Answer: Eric Braeden

Braeden, born on April 3rd, 1941 in Kiel, Germany, was cast in the small role of John Jacob Astor. Rose pointed out Astor to Jack when they proceeded to the dinner table and noted that he was the wealthiest man on the ship. Molly Brown came along and introduced Jack to Mr. Astor and Mr. Astor asked Jack if he was related to a Dawson family in Boston. Jack mentioned he was from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.

In Astor's final scene, he was seen in the ballroom while the ship sank and a huge amount of water crashed into the ceiling.

It is assumed that Astor drowned as a result of that incident. Braeden guest starred on the TV shows "Hope and Faith" and "The Nanny". He is best known for his Daytime Emmy winning portrayal of Victor Newman on the CBS soap opera "The Young and the Restless".
10. I dropped an expensive necklace into the ocean at the end of the film. Who played me?

Answer: Gloria Stuart

Stuart, a native of Santa Monica, California, played old Rose. Old Rose in this movie went by the name Rose Calvert since her husband's surname was Calvert. Rose went to see Brock Lovett and asked if she could see the drawing Jack did of her years ago on the Titanic.

She also saw some items of hers which Brock's crew recovered from her state room, such as a mirror and a hair clip. Rose was asked to share her experience on Titanic so she did. Some interesting tidbits she mentioned of the Titanic were that the china had never been used, the sheets had never been slept in before the voyage, and that approximately 1,500 people died when it sank. Rose still had the necklace with her which Cal gave her on the Titanic and decided to drop it into the ocean while on Brock's boat.

In the film's final scene, Rose is seen lying in her bed while the camera panned to pictures of her in her youth. Stuart had roles in the movies "The Million Dollar Hotel", "My Favorite Year" and "Land of Plenty". In 1998, she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in "Titanic" but lost to Kim Basinger for "L.A. Confidential".

Other Oscar nominees for Best Supporting Actress that year were Joan Cusack for "In & Out", Minnie Driver for "Good Will Hunting" and Julianne Moore for "Boogie Nights". Stuart passed away on September 26th, 2010 at the age of 100.
