"The American President" (1995): Andrew Shepherd is the President of the United States and a popular, handsome widower. He meets and falls in love with lobbyist Sydney Ellen Wade. "Wall Street" (1987): Oliver Stone's film gives us Gordon Gekko, a corporate 'raider' and the very epitome of the culture of the 1980s with his motto: "Greed, for lack of a better word, is good". Douglas won an Academy Award for the role which was turned down by both Warren Beatty and Richard Gere.

"Escape from New York" (1981): This film is listed as a "fantasy", but the premise is about a war between the United States and Russia in 1997, where New York City has been converted into a maximum security prison. When the President is kidnapped, Snake Plisskin is recruited to get him back.

"Tango and Cash" (1989): Narcotics agents Ray Tango and Gabe Cash are attempting to capture a drug lord named Yves Perret. Perret frames them for the murder of an FBI agent, and the pair must now escape from prison, clear their names and catch the villain.

"Monster's Ball" (2001): Leticia Musgrove, from the southern United States, had a husband, a convicted murderer, who was executed. His executioner, white, racist, prison guard Hank Grotowski, falls in love with Leticia who is African American. Halle Berry received a Best Actress Academy Award for her role.

"Bonnie and Clyde" (1967): Small-town girl Bonnie Parker meets up with petty crook Clyde Barrow and the rest, as they say, is history! Together, with their gang, they become robbers and killers during the Great Depression. They themselves were violently murdered by state police on May 23, 1934.

"From Here to Eternity" (1953): It's Pearl Harbor, Hawaii in 1941, before the 'attack'. "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral" (1957): Based on another real life event, in October, 1881 in Tombstone, Arizona, Marshal Wyatt Earp, with his brothers Virgil and Morgan and Doc Holiday, had a shoot-out with the Clanton-McLaury gang.
