What Would Punxsutawney Phil Do? Quiz

This is one of my all time favorite movies for several reasons. One of them is because Bill Murray is hysterical. True fans of "Groundhog Day" should have no problem with this quiz, while it may be more obscure for others.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the reason that Phil Connors (Bill Murray) gave for not wanting to stay in the hotel with Rita (Andie MacDowell), his producer, and Larry (Chris Elliott), his cameraman?

Answer: All of these.

In the very beginning of the movie, we quickly see how self-absorbed Phil Connors and after saying all of this, Larry gets off the first of his many "Prima donnas" quotes, when Phil is not looking.
2. What does Phil Connors first tell Ned Ryerson (Stephen Tobolowsky) when he realizes that Ned recognizes him?

Answer: "Thanks for watching."

He assumed that Ned was one of his fans that recognized him as a weatherman from a local based Pittsburgh station. It was not the case, however, as Ned was selling life insurance. Phil does, however, get recognized when he is working om the the van and again says, "Thanks for watching."
3. In the Tip Top Cafe, when Gus (Rick Ducommun) found out that Phil's first name was the same as the groundhog, what did he say to him?

Answer: "Look out for your shadow there, pal."

Phil responds with "Morons, your bus is leaving", since he was also referring to Ralph (Rick Overton). He was still bitter and was not understanding what was happening to him, but was blaming everyone else and expecting Andie MacDowell to do something because she was a producer. Little did Phil know that he would be bowling and asking deep questions of Gus and Ralph, later in the film (and in the night).
4. After Phil realized that he didn't have any consequences for his actions, he dates random women every night. One evening, he goes to a movie and tried to get in with his "date" for the price of two children. What was the alias she was supposed to refer to him as?

Answer: Bronco

She asks him where they are and refers to him as Phil. He responds with: "I told you...call me Bronco."
5. "Well, what if there is no tomorrow. There wasn't one today." Who does Phil tell this to?

Answer: A random guy on the phone

On a different call, Phil asked if all the line distance lines were down, followed by, "Is it snowing in space? Don't you have a line open for emergencies or celebrities? I'm both... I'm a celebrity in an emergency."
This call was right before he tried his pencil test to make sure it stayed broken overnight and no one was attempting to trick him. When he awoke, the pencil was intact.
6. What is Phil's first selfless act, during the movie, which he commits for the benefit of someone other than himself?

Answer: Feeds a homeless man.

This question was not meant to be in chronological order of what he did in his final day, but more of what event made Phil begin to realize that there is more to life than just to pleasure one's self.
7. One of the things that Rita pretended to enjoy during her "date" with Phil, which lasted only once to her, but several times to Phil, was white chocolate.

Answer: False

She told him right away about the white chocolate but "fudged" on the fudge :)
He was trying to plan a perfect day but could never reach his ultimate goal: an intimate relationship with Rita.
8. What teacher did Nancy Taylor have for English in her senior year at Lincoln High School?

Answer: Mrs. Walsh

Phil wisely asks a woman in the Tip Top Cafe what high school she went to, who she had for English, and what her teacher's name was. The next day, he meets her at the Groundhog festival at "Gobblers Knob" and says..."Nancy... Nancy Taylor! Lincoln High School. I sat next to you in Mrs. Walsh's English class. Yes, it's true... I was short and I've sprouted."
9. Fill in the next line: "It is cold out there. It's cold out there everyday. What is this, ____________?"

Answer: Miami Beach

This line is from a conversation from the DJ's on the radio after "I've Got You Babe" is over every morning. The response to "Miami Beach" is "Not hardly!" The mayor of Punxhutannie is Buster, played by Brian Doyle-Murray, who is also Bill Murray's brother. Brian, like Bill, was on "Saturday Night Live" and was also the voice on the radio that morning.
10. On the first night, before Phil repeats February 2nd over and over, what excuse does he FIRST use for not attending the groundhog dinner?

Answer: He had groundhog for lunch.

"It tasted like chicken..." This is the first thing he says to Rita when asked if she was going to the groundhog dinner. He then did follow up with, "I might read a little Hustler."
