Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The soundtrack to "Urban Cowboy" (1980) included songs from Mickey Gilley, Boz Scaggs, Johnny Lee and Kenny Rogers. During which scene did Anne Murray's song "Could I Have This Dance" begin to play?

Answer: Bud and Sissy's wedding reception

Moving to Pasadena to find work, Bud also found love with Sissy, a woman he met at a bar called Gilley's. They eventually married, and had their wedding reception at the bar. After pictures of the bridal party were taken, and the cake was cut, the pair shared their first dance to "Could I Have This Dance".

The song extended to the next scene as Bud presented Sissy with their new mobile home. Bud and Sissy (John Travolta and Debra Winger) weren't married very long before jealousy and cheating caused them to separate, but they ended up reconciling. "Could I Have This Dance" was a number one hit on the US and Canadian country charts for Anne Murray.
2. Paired up at the school dance with Tracey (Daryl Hannah), Johnny Rourke decided that "One in a Million You" wasn't exciting enough for them to dance to, so he changed the record to "Never Say Never" by Romeo Void. Tracey's boyfriend, Randy, watched them a few moments, thought that Tracey was enjoying herself too much and put an end to the dancing. Which 80s movie was this scene in?

Answer: Reckless

Although he wasn't one of the popular students at school, Johnny's status as a star football player got him paired up with Tracey for the dance. Despite their social and class differences, Tracey found herself attracted to Johnny and began spending more time with him, unbeknownst to her boyfriend. Eventually, Johnny's need to get more from life than his small town could offer forced Tracey to make a decision about her own future. "Reckless" (1984) starred Aidan Quinn (in his film debut) as Johnny Rourke, and Adam Baldwin as Randy. "Never Say Never" was from Romeo Void's 1982 album "Benefactor", and "One in a Million You" was by Larry Graham.
3. When Dr. Frankenstein presented his creation for the Bucharest Academy of Science, in "Young Frankenstein" (1974), he first had the Creature follow some simple commands to show that he had balance and coordination. Then, to the surprise of everyone, the two of them did a song and dance number together on stage. What song did they sing?

Answer: Puttin' on the Ritz

After Frederick decided to continue the family business, he attempted to reanimate a man and give him the brain of a well-known scientist. This plan backfired as Igor had a mishap at the Brain Depository and grabbed a different, undesirable brain. Though not happy with his creation's lack of intelligence, Dr. Frankenstein wanted to show the public how sophisticated the Creature was, so he taught him to dance and sing.

Their number was going along well until a blown stage light scared the Creature, causing him to freak out and scare the audience. "Puttin' on the Ritz" was written by Irving Berlin in 1929, and appeared as a song and dance routine in "Idiot's Delight" (1939)(performed by Clark Gable) and in "Blue Skies" (1946) (performed by Fred Astaire). An updated cover of the song was released in 1982 by Taco.
4. Baseball team owner Rachel Phelps was looking for the worst players possible for her team, and one of those she got was pitcher Ricky Vaughn, formerly of the California penal league. Ricky had an amazing fastball, but due to his poor eyesight he usually ended up throwing wild pitches. His out-of-control pitching earned him the nickname, and the theme song, "Wild Thing". Who played Ricky Vaughn in "Major League" (1989)?

Answer: Charlie Sheen

In his first major league game, Vaughn loaded the bases by throwing so many wild pitches he walked all three batters. This prompted a small group of die-hard Indian fans to sing "Wild Thing", changing the words to, "Wild thing, you make my heart sing, you walk everything", thus giving Vaughn his nickname.

After the manager figured out that Vaughn needed eyeglasses, his pitching began to improve, although he did hang on to his nickname. The most well-known version of "Wild Thing" is by The Troggs, but "Major League" used the version recorded by X. Charlie Sheen has appeared in many movies including "Platoon" and "Lucas", as well as on TV in "Two and a Half Men".
5. Plenty of great songs were heard in "Bridget Jones's Diary" (2001), but which scene made use of Geri Halliwell's version of "It's Raining Men"?

Answer: Daniel and Mark fighting

Mark came by Bridget's place and ended up helping her salvage the meal she'd been preparing for her dinner party. Daniel stopped by later, trying to get back together with Bridget, and was surprised to find Mark there. Daniel and Mark exchanged a few words, then Mark invited Daniel outside. Once there, they began fighting, first in the street, then in the restaurant across the street, while "It's Raining Men" played.

The song was a number one hit in the UK for Geri Halliwell, and was originally released by The Weather Girls in 1982. Renee Zellweger played the title character in "Bridget Jones", the story of a woman trying to be happy with herself and find the right man.
6. While a 45 record of "The Blue Danube Waltz" played on a turntable nearby, a group of firefighters from a small town were taught proper firefighting procedures. Which movie was this scene from?

Answer: Roxanne

Chris and Charlie were trying to show the volunteer firefighters how to have proper control of the fire hose and were using "The Blue Danube" to help the men work together. As the music went on, we saw a montage of the guys fumbling with the hoses on the truck, trying to connect to a hydrant, and attempting to convince one reluctant fireman to slide down the pole in the firehouse. "Roxanne" (1987) was a modern retelling of "Cyrano de Bergerac". Charlie was interested in Roxanne, but Roxanne was interested in Chris.

At least she was until she found out all of the romantic notes she thought were coming from Chris had actually been written by Charlie, who meant every word of them. Charlie was played by Steve Martin (who also wrote the screenplay), Roxanne was played by Daryl Hannah, and Chris was played by Rick Rossovich. "The Blue Danube Waltz" was composed by Johann Strauss, and has also been used in many other movies including "Grand Hotel", "Strictly Ballroom", "True Lies" and "The End of the Affair".
7. After training for a year, a group of guys found their way back to "Beerfest" (2006), intending to beat the Germans in the competition. During the montage which showed the teams competing and being eliminated until only the US and German teams were left, what song played?

Answer: Have a Drink on Me

Jan and Todd Wolfhouse found out about Beerfest when they were in Munich to take care of their grandfather's ashes. They easily lost a competition to the Germans and were further humiliated by having vegetables thrown at them. Vowing to return the following year to beat the Germans, Jan and Todd assembled their former drinking buddies and started training for the competition.

When the time arrived, they snuck in to Beerfest via a huge beer barrel, and talked their way into the competition. We saw the teams competing to the very appropriate "Have a Drink on Me", from AC/DC's "Back in Black" album.
8. When the song "Chariots of Fire" is heard, I suppose the first thing that comes to mind is a group of men running along a beach (as seen in the movie by the same name). But it makes me think of a family of four running (in slow motion) to the entrance of a theme park which they've gone through a lot to get to. Which movie was this scene in?

Answer: Vacation

After everything the Griswolds went through to reach Walley World, none of them thought much about the fact that the parking lot was totally empty when they arrived, they just assumed they were the first ones there. Excited at the prospect of finally enjoying the park, the family began running toward the entrance after Clark told Rusty he'd race him. To the strains of "Chariots of Fire", we saw Clark and Rusty running alongside each other, and then Clark briefly letting Rusty get ahead. Ellen and Audrey followed behind them, only to find that the park was closed for repairs. "Chariots of Fire" was composed by Vangelis, and was also heard in "Bruce Almighty", "Madagascar" and "The Holiday".
9. The soundtrack to "Beverly Hills Cop" (1984) went to number one on the US Billboard album chart, and featured top ten hits "The Heat is On" by Glenn Frey, and "Axel F" by Harold Faltermeyer. During which scene was the song "Neutron Dance" heard?

Answer: Cigarette truck chase

When we first met Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy), he was haggling with a couple of guys over a truckload of cigarettes. After a police car pulled up, one of the guys sped off with the truck while Axel was still in the back of the second trailer. The truck sped through Detroit with a string of police cars in pursuit, as "Neutron Dance" played. Axel, who we found out was a police officer, later went to L.A. to investigate the death of his friend, Mikey Tandino. "Neutron Dance" was originally from the Pointer Sisters' "Break Out" album,
10. At a roadside bar, a man danced to "Chain of Fools" with what started out as two women, and ended up being a whole group of them. Soon, jealous boyfriends and other locals broke up the dancing and our man was forced to do battle, while the group of women stood off to the side and offered their opinions on what he smelled of (the general consensus was that it was something sweet). Which movie was this scene from?

Answer: Michael

Having found out that Michael was no ordinary angel, Frank, Dorothy and Huey were taking him to Chicago when they stopped for some dinner. While Michael was explaining how he invented standing on line, he noticed two women who were noticing him. After changing the song on the jukebox from "I Don't Care If You Love Me Anymore" (by The Mavericks) to "Chain of Fools" (by Aretha Franklin), Michael began dancing with the two women, who were soon joined by nearly all the women there. Michael prepared to do battle with the locals and was soon joined by Frank.

As they watched, one woman said Michael smelled like caramels, another suggested cotton candy, and Dorothy said he smelled like cookies. The fight landed their entire group in jail (except Sparky, who wasn't actually in the cell), but Michael was able to sweet talk the judge the next day to get them released. Aretha Franklin had a number one R & B hit in the US with "Chain of Fools" in 1967.
