This was the first ever, full length, animated movie, and the first movie of any kind to have its own official soundtrack. When they were thinking about names for the dwarfs over fifty names were suggested. Some of them are, Awful, Biggy, Blabby, Gabby, Dirty, Gloomy, Jumpy, Nifty and Shifty.

Kevin Spacey is very menacing as Hopper, the head of the invading grasshoppers. There is a very wonderful 3-D movie at Disneyworld and Disneyland that was based on this movie. It's located underneath the Tree of Life.

Eva Gabor provided the voice of Duchess while Phil Harris voiced O'Malley, their rescuer. The character of Scat Cat was originally designed for Louis Armstrong. He was drawn to look like him, and even played a trumpet the same way that Armstrong did. But Armstrong resigned from the movie before recording a single word, and Scatman Crothers took over the part.
