Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I went into the afterlife in the film's final scene. Who played me?

Answer: Patrick Swayze

Swayze, born on August 18th, 1952 in Houston, Texas, was cast as Sam Wheat in this movie. Sam was in love with Molly Bensen and they were seen moving into a new apartment in Manhattan. In an early scene memorable for most of the movie's fans, Sam and Molly made love while playing around with a pottery wheel with the song "Unchained Melody" playing in the background. One night, Sam and Molly walked home and a man robbed them. Sam tried to fight off the man but was killed.

Despite this, Sam stuck around as a ghost since Molly was still in danger. Sam sought assistance from a medium named Oda Mae Brown to protect Molly.

In the film's final tearjerker scene, Sam went into the light after he realized his job of helping Molly was finished. Swayze had roles in the films "Point Break", "Dirty Dancing" and "Donnie Darko".

He passed away on September 14th, 2009 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 57 years of age.
2. I hung up the phone on Oda Mae Brown when she first called me. Who played me?

Answer: Demi Moore

Moore, a native of Roswell, New Mexico, portrayed Molly Jensen. Molly was thrilled to move into a new apartment with Sam and she was seen in one scene attempting to get a big statue into the apartment through the window. When she was unable to do so, Sam got it for her. Molly was saddened when Sam was shot one night and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

While she mourned him, she one day got a phone call from a medium Sam consulted named Oda Mae Brown. Oda Mae informed Molly that Sam spoke to her and instructed her to tell Molly he spoke to her. Molly could not believe what she heard so she hung up on her.

When Oda Mae visited Molly one day, Molly gave her another chance and the two went out to lunch. Oda Mae informed her that she could hear Sam but not see him. Near the end of the movie, Molly was held hostage at one point after Carl Bruner, Sam's co-worker, held her at gunpoint.

Despite this, Molly was unharmed from the ordeal. Moore had parts in the movies "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle", "Striptease" and "G.I. Jane".
3. I worked with Sam but also worked on having him killed. I was successful but got my comeuppance in the end. Who played me?

Answer: Tony Goldwyn

Goldwyn, born in 1960 in Los Angeles, California, landed the role of Carl Bruner. Carl was Sam's co-worker at the bank and became unnerved when Sam noticed there was too much money in an account. What Sam did not know at the time was Carl managed that account and was using it to launder money. Sam informed Carl he would be looking into it so this put Carl in fear. To prevent Sam from learning about what he was doing, he arranged for Sam to be killed. Midway through the film, Carl was at the office alone and saw a chair move halfway across the room.

He became scared and that was when he saw a note on the screen which indicated that Sam was there. Carl then realized Sam had come back as a ghost. To upset Sam, he planned to kill his girlfriend, Molly.

In Carl's final scenes, he broke into Molly's apartment and she fled him but was then held at gunpoint after she slipped. Sam managed to free Molly from Carl and Carl eventually died during his scuffle with Sam. Goldwyn guest starred on the TV series "The Good Wife", "Dexter" and "Law and Order: Criminal Intent".
4. I impersonated Rita Miller at the bank. Who played me?

Answer: Whoopi Goldberg

Goldberg played Oda Mae Brown in "Ghost". She was a psychic whom Sam visited to see if he could get in touch with Molly from the great beyond. Oda Mae Brown attended to a customer when Sam first saw her and he interrupted her meeting, which bothered Oda Mae.

She tried to get Sam to go away but then reluctantly agreed to help him. Sam informed her what happened and that she needed to tell Molly she was in danger, which Oda Mae eventually did. In one scene, Sam devised a plan for Oda Mae to withdraw money from an account which Carl had been using to launder money. Oda Mae agreed to go to the bank and do this for Sam.

In one scene, Molly learned that Oda Mae Brown had been busted by the authorities for being a fraudulent psychic. Near the end of the film, Oda Mae watched TV with her two sisters and they fought over whether to watch "The Arsenio Hall Show" or "Love Connection". Sam interrupted their TV watching to tell them Carl and Willie Lopez were coming to kill Oda Mae Brown so they had better run. Goldberg starred in the films "The Color Purple", "The Little Rascals" and "Corrina, Corrina".

At the Academy Awards broadcast in 1991, Goldberg won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role of Oda Mae Brown in "Ghost". Other Oscar nominees for Best Supporting Actress that year were Annette Bening for "The Grifters", Lorraine Bracco for "Goodfellas", Diane Ladd for "Wild at Heart" and "Mary McDonnell for "Dances with Wolves". Goldberg was the second African American to win the Best Supporting Actress Oscar, the first being Hattie McDaniel for "Gone with the Wind" in 1940.

Sam was upset since all the times he went to punch Willie involved his fists going right through his body, never making contact and so the ghost told him he could help out.

The subway ghost instructed Sam on how to make contact with the outside world and had him try it out on a shoe and soda can. Sam was successful since he touched the shoe and kicked the soda can, which pleased the subway ghost.

The subway ghost's instructions helped Sam save Molly's life from Carl. Schiavelli starred in the movies "Batman Returns", "One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest" and "Amadeus".

The ghost informed Sam he was awaiting his wife to come to Heaven with him and then looked through the sheet covering her dead body. Oda Mae had trouble reaching Rosa's husband so Rosa offered to pay her an additional 20 dollars to try harder, which Oda Mae accepted. Oda Mae claimed that she was successful in locating Rosa's husband, named Julio, in the great beyond but then she heard Sam and got scared, which in turn scared Rosa. When Lyle asked her how she wanted the money, Oda Mae said in tens and twenties but Sam told her to take a cashier's check instead, which Oda Mae requested. 9. I killed Sam after Carl paid me to do it. Who played me?

Answer: Rick Aviles

Aviles, born on October 14th, 1952 in New York City, was cast as Willie Lopez. Willie confronted Sam and Molly one night with a gun after Carl paid him to kill Sam. Sam gave him his wallet, and Sam and Willie managed to get into a fight, resulting in Willie shooting Sam. On another day, Willie entered Molly's apartment and Sam, who was a ghost at the time, tried to stop him but was unsuccessful. Willie left the apartment without killing Molly.

He then ran off and got on a subway to go back to his apartment. Willie phoned up Carl to tell him what he did and that was when Sam realized his murder was a set up.

It was later on in the film when Carl confronted Willie after Molly told Carl she knew Willie Lopez killed Sam, which led Carl to wonder how Molly found that information out. (Oda Mae had informed Molly that Sam told her who his killer was.) At the end of the movie, Willie died when he was in a traffic accident and a bunch of demon spirits came to drag his body to Hell.
