Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which group took their name from a book by Arthur Janov called "Primal Scream"?

Answer: Tears for Fears

Janov's book talked about "tears being a replacement for fears". In therapy sessions, patients were told to cry and scream and shout to release their childhood feelings. But, of course, you all knew that.
2. Which American city completes the following 1990 album title by the Cocteau Twins? "Heaven or __________________".

Answer: Heaven or Las Vegas

This album sounded fantastic in 1990 and still does today (in my opinion) but then, hey, what do I know?
3. Finish the band name - "Pop Will ________ _________ .

Answer: Pop Will Eat Itself

The name comes from a newspaper headline about another band , "Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine" who had themselves chosen their name from a newspaper headline. (I'll leave you to work their's out by yourselves).
4. Ex-Marillion frontman "Fish" is still massively popular across the world, but what is his real name?

Answer: Derek Dick

Derek hails originally from Dalkeith, close to Edinburgh.
5. David Evans is a famous, internationally - known member of one of the world's biggest bands. But who is he better known as?

Answer: The Edge

Influenced by Rory Gallacher and Tom Verlaine, the Edge's unique style has helped propel U2 to international acclaim. U2 without him just wouldn't be U2.
6. Three of these names are actual names of bands. Which one never has been listed as a band name?

Answer: Hello, I'm Joanna Lumley

"Hello, I'm Joanna Lumley" was a line used repeatedly on the British satirical comedy show "Alas Smith and Jones". In the final show, the real Joanna Lumley turned up and threatened to sue (all in jest, of course).
7. I was born in Canada but am of Portuguese extraction. I have won four grammy awards, had a daughter in 2003 and am definitely not a one trick pony. So, who am I?

Answer: Nelly Furtado

At first, I thought Nelly was a little bit bonkers but she is producing some excellent music and that oddball trait is part of her charm. Nelly Furtado ain't no one trick pony.
8. Which of these drummers has raced sport cars at Le Mans?

Answer: Nick Mason of Pink Floyd

Not only raced sportscars at events around the world but raced them competitively. He also owns a fantastic array of historic cars which includes several examples of the best Ferraris there are.
9. Which Brighton-based band's four members are Yan, Wood, Noble and Hamilton; they have released tracks entitled "Apologies to Insect life" and "Favours in the Beetroot Field"?

Answer: British Sea Power

Quirky. That is the best word I can think of to describe British Sea Power. Oh yes, quirky just about covers them. And very good they are, too.
10. What connects Mick Fleetwood (co-founder of Fleetwood Mac), Billy Preston, Michael Bolton and George Formby (the ukelele king) ?

Answer: Their surnames are all towns in Lancashire

For any teachers out there, this question is a fine example of the cross-curricular method, in this instance mixing music with the geography of the north-west of England. Next time, I'll mix molecular biology with pottery and the history of Namibia. Or, on second thoughts, I won't.
