Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Ricky Van Shelton was born on which date?

Answer: January 12, 1952

He was born in Grit, Virginia, which is just north of Danville, Virginia, about 2 hours away from my hometown. His parents are Eloise and Jenks Shelton.
2. Of which Merle Haggard song did Ricky do a remake?

Answer: Working Man Blues

This song was on Ricky's "Wild-Eyed Dream" album. It was later recorded in the late 1990's by Lee Roy Parnell, Steve Wariner, and the group Diamond Rio for a Merle Haggard tribute album. That was the last recording of that song to my knowledge, but if anyone knows otherwise, please let me know.
3. Ricky also did a remake of a Roger Miller song entitled what?

Answer: Don't We All Have The Right

This song was also on RVS's album "Wild-Eyed Dream".
4. Ricky's first number one single came in 1987. Name this title song.

Answer: Somebody Lied

Yet another song off of "Wild-Eyed Dream". All of the other songs are off of the album "Living Proof", which was released in October 1990.
5. Ricky won Entertainer of the Year for two consecutive years.

Answer: True

He won the Music City News award for Entertainer of the Year in both 1990 and 1991. Some of his other achievements are Top New Male Vocalist at the Academy of Country Music awards in 1988 and Country Music Association Male Vocalist of the Year in 1989.
6. Ricky won the Christian Country Artist award at the Music City News awards for which album?

Answer: Don't Overlook Salvation

He won this award three consecutive years(from 1995 to 1997).
7. In which year was Ricky inducted into the Grand Ole Opry?

Answer: 1987

He was inducted in 1987 by Jack Greene and the late Roy Acuff, just three years after he moved to Nashville, Tennessee.
8. Onto Ricky's acting career. Ricky played Jesse Lee Harris on which popular TV show?

Answer: Baywatch

Ricky played Jesse Lee Harris in the "Western Exposure" episode in 1994 and then played the same character on the same show in the 1995 episode "Desperate Encounter". Incidentally, fellow country music star Martina McBride also played on the "Western Exposure" episode as C.J. Parker's singer friend Sadie Jennings.
9. Which children's book is Ricky credited for wrting and illustrating?

Answer: Tales From A Duck Named Quacker

This is the first of three Quacker books. The others include "Quacker Meets Mrs. Moo" and "Quacker Meets Canadian Goose".
10. And finally, name the singer with whom Ricky sang the duet "Rockin' Years".

Answer: Dolly Parton

It was Dolly Parton. This song is on his album "Backroads" and her album "Eagle When She Flies". Not sure if he has recorded any duets with Loretta, but if he has, I'm sure it's a great song. And Bettye Shelton is the current Mrs. Ricky Van Shelton.
