Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 1779, the Christian hymn "Amazing Grace" was written and published by Anglican cleric John Newton. According to the Dictionary of American Hymnology, what is "Amazing Grace" about?

Answer: John Newton's spiritual autobiography

John Newton was brought up as a Catholic but had doubts and was sympathetic towards Protestantism. At a young age, he was disobedient and he was pushed into the Royal Navy. During one particular shipwreck in 1748, he called out to God and believed that as a result, his life was spared.

He was heavily involved in the slave trade, but eventually became an Anglican priest and apologized for his partaking in these events. "Amazing Grace" is his autobiographical account of these experiences.
2. On Aerosmith's 1993 album "Get A Grip", did singer-songwriter and founding member of The Eagles, Don Henley, sing background vocals on the song "Amazing"?

Answer: Yes

American musicians Don Henley and Lenny Kravitz were both used as background vocalists on Aerosmith's 1993 album "Get A Grip". The album also included instrument collaborations from other popular musicians such as Desmond Child, Bruce Fairbairn, and David Campbell.

Many songs on the album such as "Amazing" were a reflection of Aerosmith's battle with drugs and addiction. Steven Tyler during a 1993 interview with Jim Washburn of the Los Angeles Times stated: "We were saying you can point it back to some of those old beliefs about the crossroads and signing up with the devil, that you can look at the drugs as that: It can be fun in the beginning but then it comes time to pay your debt, and if you're not sharp enough to see that it's taking you down, then it really will get you."
3. On Madonna's eighth studio album "Music", her song "Amazing" did not crack the top forty on the US Billboard Charts. Two songs from the album did peak in the top five on the Billboard Charts though. What two songs were they?

Madonna's "Amazing" did not have much of an impact as many other tunes on her album "Music". On September 18, 2000, "Music" was released and eventually earned Madonna five Grammy nominations. In fact, in 2003, it was ranked as one of the 500 greatest albums of all time by Rolling Stone Magazine.
