His first charted song hit number four for co-writer George Jones. In 1994 Jones re-recorded "Why, Baby Why" with Ricky Skaggs for Jones' album "The Bradley Barn Sessions"; an album of eleven of Jones' songs each re-recorded with a duet partner.
