Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. We'll start with an easy one. In what song will you find this lyric: "I think I know what you've been asking me. I think you know what I've been trying to say."

Answer: Lullabye (Goodnight My Angel)

I think just about everyone who has heard this song knows about its origin. Billy was having a conversation with his daughter Alexa at her bed time. She was at that age where she was asking those agonizing questions like, "What happens when you die?". This song was about how he responded to her.
2. "There's an old man sitting next to me, making love to his ______ ___ ___."

Answer: tonic and gin

The song is, of course, "Piano Man". This song was slightly autobiographical for Billy. He moved out to California and played under the name Bill Martin. This was because just previous to this, his first album "Cold Spring Harbor" had come out and had been terribly produced. He figured that the only way to get out of his contract was to just leave down and work under a different name.
3. Which of these was NOT someone mentioned in "Piano Man"?

Answer: Ray

All of the characters in this song are people Billy actually knew when he was playing in piano bars in California.
4. Billy wrote a song called "Why Judy Why". "Judy" is someone from Billy's real life. Who is she?

Answer: his sister

He had one sister named Judy. This song appears on Billy's first album, "Cold Spring Harbor". His mother Rosalind was also recognized in a song called "Rosalinda's Eyes" on the "52nd Street" album.
5. Billy wrote a song about his mother. What was this song called?

Answer: Rosalinda's Eyes

"Rosalinda's Eyes" appears on the "52 Street" album and is about his mother, Rosalind Joel. Since his father was away most of the time, Rosalind practically raised Billy and his sister Judy on her own.
6. "Well, you went uptown ridin' in your limosine with your fine Park Avenue clothes. You had the Don Perignon in your hand and a _____ __ ____ ____."

Answer: spoon up your nose

The song is "Big Shot". Billy sometimes says that this song is about his "morning after" partying from his younger days when he would look at himself in the mirror and ridicule himself, "So, you had to be the big shot huh? You had to prove it to that crowd ohhh sure."
7. "In the middle of the night I go _______ __ __ _____."

Answer: walking in my sleep

From the song "River of Dreams" on the album of (almost) the same title. Christie Brinkley did the art for the cover.
8. "It doesn't matter what they say in the papers 'cause it's always been the same old scene. There's a new band in town but you can't get the sound from a _____ __ _ ________."

Answer: story in a magazine

The song is "Still Rock and Roll to Me".
9. "Tell her about it. Tell her everything you feel. Give her every reason to accept ____ ______ ___ ____."

Answer: that you're for real

Song: "Tell Her About It".
10. True or false: Billy did a somewhat sappy song called "Leave a Tender Moment Alone" which was featured on "The Stranger".

Answer: False

Billy did do a sappy ballad called "Leave a Tender Moment Alone", but it was on "An Innocent Man", not "The Stranger".
