Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "I'm burning alive."

Answer: Fire Meets Gasoline

Appearing on Sia's "1000 Forms of Fear" album, "Fire Meets Gasoline" was the fourth single to release from the disc and the only one not to feature Maddie Ziegler as Sia's stand-in. Instead, the music video was a promotional film for Heidi Klum's upcoming lingerie products.

The song, about a burning, romantic relationship, is actually free of emergency, but the line "I'm burning alive" appears frequently in the chorus to signify the singer's eagerness to be overcome with love. The song failed to chart with any significance.
2. "Ouch! I have lost myself again."

Answer: Breathe Me

Perhaps Sia's earliest hit, "Breathe Me" was used most famously as the closing song for the finale of the long-running HBO series "Six Feet Under" though it's been found in dozens of other TV shows, films, and even video games due to its haunting and emotional lyrics, piano, and strings.

Although it only reached number twenty-four on the U.S. Rock Digital Songs Chart and failed to chart otherwise in America, it went platinum over time. This track appeared on Sia's second solo album, "Colour the Small One", which was released in 2004.
3. "Feel the sea swelling and drowning me."

Answer: Summer Rain

An upbeat bonus song from Sia's "This Is Acting" album, "Summer Rain" uses weather metaphors to express love. While many of the songs on "This is Acting" were actually tracks written for other artists but kept by Sia for personal use after the fact, the proposed artist for "Summer Rain" was never disclosed. That said, other artists mimicked on this, her seventh album, included Rihanna, Shakira, and Adele.
4. "I'm holding on for dear life."

Answer: Chandelier

"But I'm holding on for dear life, won't look down won't open my eyes.
Keep my glass full until morning light, 'cause I'm just holding on for tonight."

"Chandelier" was the spark that set the Sia fire ablaze. After years of well-received albums that failed to chart with any significance, "Chandelier", from her "1000 Forms of Fear" album, ended up giving the singer new life on the pop charts. "Chandelier" was nominated for four Grammy Awards on its own going multi-platinum internationally. She wouldn't get her first Billboard number one single until "Cheap Thrills" on her next album.
5. "I've been waiting for you to come rescue me."

Answer: I'm in Here

The lyric in question is found in the chorus of "I'm in Here", a down-tempo track from Sia's fifth album, "We Are Born", which also released with a stripped-back piano version on the album. While the singles released from this album were much more upbeat, songs like "I'm in Here" put a twist on typical Sia who, in previous albums, used much softer tones to address similar themes of sadness, fear, and isolation.
6. "You held me down but I fought back loud."

Answer: Bird Set Free

"Bird Set Free" is an interesting track from "This is Acting" that took a long time to find a home. Although the song was originally written for Rihanna, it was passed upon and then put forth for the directors of the film "Pitch Perfect 2" when they sought out an inspirational original song to close out the final concert of the film.

It was passed on for the Jessie J-written track "Flashlight" which, interestingly, was criticized for being a fake Sia song. The song also went to Adele during recording for her "25" album. Sia instead used it for "This is Acting", releasing it as a promotional single and performing it on "Saturday Night Live".
7. "So I shout, 'Oh, I wanna get away from you as fast as I can.'"

Answer: Little Black Sandals

"Little Black Sandals" was the first track on Sia's third album, "Some People Have Real Problems", which blended the melancholy tone of her first two releases with the poppy tracks that would start to emerge on her following two. But "Little Black Sandals" is the former, chronicling a relationship that the singer needs to run away from.

Interestingly, this third album was the first of Sia's releases to chart in the United States (it reached twenty-six on the U.S. Billboard 200). That said, it sold half as much as her previous disc, "Colour the Small One".
8. "This secret burns, but I'm imprisoned."

Answer: Hostage

Arguably the most bubbly song on Sia's "1000 Forms of Fear", "Hostage" is a song about falling in love built up by metaphors relating to prison and criminality.

"It all begins with just one kiss
I'm held hostage by your love
Put me in cuffs, lock me up
I'm held hostage by your touch"

This track was cowritten with The Strokes' guitarist, Nick Valensi, who also played guitar throughout her earlier album, "We Are Born".
9. "Can't hide the pain, can't hide the pain."

Answer: Cellophane

This emotional song about inner pain was never a single when it showed up on the "1000 Forms of Fear" album, but it found renewed life in the years after the album, often as a live cover used by other artists. Notably, the song has been used in performances by drag performer Sasha Velour in her "Smoke and Mirrors" show, often in an audiovisual segment featuring her in front of a dynamic screen. Perhaps due to the intense vocals of the song, Sia never performed it live for her subsequent "Nostalgic for the Present" tour.
10. "Boy I'm going up in flames and you're to blame."

Answer: House on Fire

"House on Fire" appeared on Sia's "This is Acting" album and was co-written by songwriter Jack Antonoff, known for his solo work (and bands, fun. and Bleachers) as well as his collaborations with Lorde, Taylor Swift, and St. Vincent. While nearly all of the songs on the album were written for other artists, only two were odd exceptions-- "One Million Bullets" was a song Sia kept for herself from the get-go while "House on Fire's" proposed artist was never disclosed during promotions for the album. Once again, Sia uses fire as a metaphor to represent her love.

"Baby I'm a house on fire, and I wanna keep burning."
